the UNSC are too big of noobs to make anything like a scarab. their technology is not on par. the covenant is powered by blue magic, dont forget that.
Agreed with Tmar, I've researched the Scarab before and according to the wise Halo Universe their propoltion system is backed up by anti-gravity technology. Also the Halo 3 Scarabs as well as the ones on Reach are controlled by the same worms which make up the Hunters. Now either the UNSC runs some seriously intense nano-tech or the project is another waste of the tax payers' fonds... But just to keep our minds open, I would imagine the UNSC Scarab to be more mech like. Perhaps it would be bulky and wield some intense defensive and offensive features such as reactive armor, GAUSS technology and some mini SHIVA nukes to pack a serious punch. Knowing ONI that type of organization would sure as hell try something like that, but you gotta remember that the Humanity was too busy fighing for survival to hold the last line than worry about recreating enemy tech. This is a prime example of using covenant tech against them: Picking up a plasma pistol and noob comnbo an elite. Wort wort with a face full of overheated ions..and bullet
Clearly none of you have seen Wild Wild West. Basically what Grim said though, bulky and mechanical. The original is slender and organic, which is what the elites feel like (an organic base surrounded by a armored shell).
hahahaha wicky wicky wild wild west i think its more likely they'd build one of those mechs from avatar for the other troops because obviously the spartans dont need mechs
^ or from Matrix 3 apparently lol Scarab's primary purpose was drilling into planets. That is how they get into the underground facility on Reach (assumed) and that is how they got into the underground facility in the Fall Of Reach book. Humans already have drilling tech, nothing on par with a giant bug shooting lasers of death, but the tech is still there. As far as a mechanized attack "ship" sure I suppose ONI or the UNSC could develop such a craft but when they already have elephants, hornets, vultures, scorpians, etc who needs one?
There are two different types of scarabs, mining scarabs like in Halo 2, and combat scarabs like in Halo 3 and Reach.
WOAH! You know how the Scarabs are made up of the same worms as hunters? What if...... Instead of developing a new scarab, the UNSC would employ nanotechnology! A team of marines/spartan/ODST troopers would be specially designed to infiltrate a scarab, Insert a container/device containing nanobots that would take control of the worms into wherever, and hijjack the whole Scarab! It would cost much less, and the UNSC would seriously weaken covenant forces, and increase THEIR chances for survival! 2 second brain-hurricane [br][/br]Edited by merge: The UNSC actually had one, but abandoned it for reasons unkown to me..... Couldnt find a link but read it while browsing through Halo Waypoint.....
If they made it they couldn't use the worms(a.k.a hunter worms) in the scarab as it would go rogue no doubt. Another feature it might use would be a Mac-cannon (but I could be wrong on this one).
Orbital Defense Platforms fire a 3,000-ton slug at "point four-tenths the speed of light", around 12,000 kilometers per second. If that puppy ever went through an atmosphere, there wouldn't be an atmosphere..
rather than a MAC, why not use multiple Gauss cannons? Its a MAC cannon, yet minimized to keep the skin on the passengers inside the vehicle.
A MAC cannon is an oversized Gauss cannon. The fired MAC cannons in atmosphere in the campaign. Orbital Defense Platforms have Super MAC cannons which are much more powerful than shipboard ones.
Men and Black quote, "NOW WERE TALKING!" Also the UNSC would probably try to find a way to lessen the weaknesses of this scarab in comparison to the covenant scarab.
Men And Black? Lol. What use would the UNSC have for a scarab like tank anyway? Seems pretty useless really. Also, theres a difference between Mac Cannons and Super Mac Cannons. They use super Mac Cannons for orbital defence. A Mac Cannon is perfectly safe to use in atmosphere.
Somehow I find that hard to believe considering that would require about 2x10[sup]20[/sup]J which would require the complete conversion of over 2000 Kg of matter to energy, and that's not even accounting for the increase in mass courtesy of relativity. I guess Bungie doesn't care too much about physics.
