If the UNSC really wanted to hide ONI bases, why not deep down in the ocean? It would make them invisible and many other things would make them profit! An ocean level in reach would have been great, too! So why does Bungie seemingly not want to mess with the ocean?

Well, think about it. When your underwater your ENTIRE screen is "underwater" regardless whether your in a sealed environment or not.Lets say, you managed to build a small box that could fit a spartan underwater, the engine will still think your underwater and exposed to it. So it would be highly unrealistic(even for this game's standards) for thier to be underwater scenes/levels. It would be too much work to redesign the engine in that a way, that water does not flood a building unless there is a hole of some sort. Though it would have defiantly been cool.

Why are you asking so many questions lately? i mean, it's not a problem, but most of your questions have been really similar, so you could probably just post in one thread instead of six. Just keep that in mind.

To answer your question, it doesn't really make sense, and probably wouldn't be very cost efficient, either. If anything, I would expect the UNSC to have a 'secret base' built into an asteroid or crater or something.

Water requires an entire, high detail, moving surface. And it's not just a single object that's affected by a single transformation; the surface itself is changing. If you've ever played one of those maps that's a bunch of vehicles driving around on a submerged grid, you'll know it kills both the connection and framerate.

I think he means water level as in the interior is dry but there are fish and stuff swimming past the windows.

It would be stupidly easy. No different than the big infected window on Cold Storage or looking out into space on anchor 9/zealot/orbital...

Yeah, there was an entire Halo 2 campaign level like that.

Not the whole level, just the elevator submarine things. And that was buggy as because every now and then a fish would float through the walls of the elevator...

Never happened to me... And not just the elevators, there were a few battles underwater, too.

Oh yea that's right. Those long glass tunnel things where the invisible elites and grunts hung out. Just before you meet the gravemind. Partially flooded.

Yea something like that but UNSC rather than forerunner would be pretty sick. and in Reach graphics...

Does a tree falling in the woods make a sound if there's nobody around to hear it?

ONI is as "secret" as MI6 or other "secret" government organisations. People know they exist, people know they have bases and buildings across the country but they're not constantly under attack.

I saw a program on TV about the Unmapped Britain (I think thats what it was called). For security reasons, there are a lot of places which aren't on the OS maps and a lot of them are simply marked on road signs for "Works Traffic".

My point is, ONI doesn't need to hide their buildings. They did keep some things secret, like the Forerunner dig site but when you're at war with dangerous aliens, the last thing you want to tell the public is you've found more alien stuff right under your feet!

The Sword Base appears to be many miles from the nearest city, the Sabre Program base just looks like a factory and the ONI building in New Mombasa had a moat! They hide their stuff in plain view.

Or did you mean hiding their bases from the Covenant? The Covenant wouldn't need to find the specific bases, they can destroy the entire planet.

Actually, a space banshee probably could work underwater because banshees work by some weird antigravity stuff. The regular banshees probably have a sealed compartment too so they might be able to go underwater too.

Space banshees probably wouldn't work. Water already mimics zero gravity, which is why astronauts conduct routines in a pool. Banshee propulsion would probably need some way of pushing through water like a propeller does if it wanted to move underwater. Plus any electricity released from the antigravity device would be amplified by the water, electrocuting you.

    The more you know.

That's because there are actually two layers of the ocean Forge World. The lower one is made of an highly reactive substance that being nonpolar and heavier than water, settles below it. Anything that hits that layer is killed instantly. In the water on Reach a banshee should be fine.

No I'm not high, that was just a fancy way of saying this is about logic, not where Bungie placed kill zones on forge world.

Yep, a banshee would be fine by LOGIC.
    LOGIC is OK
    GAMEPLAY is great!
but LOGIC is still cool. But anyway, why dont banshees ever go underwater, come up to a UNSC base, and like pop up and scream "Surprise!" ?
