Blockade Created by chrstphrbrnnn & Shad0w Viper Recommended Players: 4-8 Recommended Gametypes: Slayer, CtF, Assault, KotH, Odball Bluntly said, each Video Game has its own facet that separates it from other games; sure, there are other aspects of the game, but all are outshone by that one, great part. Halo’s champion was always multiplayer. Maps made competitive play. From Damnation to Lockout, legendary maps crafted the phenomenon that Halo multiplayer was and is. The Pit is, without a doubt, one of the paramount levels in Halo 3. Arguably, it was the best competitive map out there, and many people would stand by that. In an effort to reestablish the same degree of competitiveness and a similar sensation while remaining fresh and innovative, Chris and Will decided to take a shot at making a map true to what one should be. Blockade is a sort of mash between The Pit and a preceding map called Penance. Penance was a map created by the two in order to have a good area of play for 1v1 games. Though the two designs differ, the collaboration’s goal was to create an offspring playing on the maps’ pros. The true character of each map is found within Blockade, melded together to create the fine map it is. It is symmetrical and exhibits true balance in every section. Analysis of the map reveals that each small trait and every game-changing characteristic was put there for a reason. Appropriate weapons appear in their respective positions, the sightlines mold how the matches should unfold, and the fluidity links it all together as the overarching entity. I would argue that Blockade plays how Reach should play. Overall experience and familiarity of map design and attention to detail sculpt the map rather than slice and dice it into a solid chunk of playability. I swear, when I clicked Blockade on Chrst's sig, then went back to the chatbox, stevo said new feature posted, saw it and OMFG. Scope, you liek ninja or somethin. Congrats to Chrst and Shad0w. Damn, I NEVER expected that.
Certainly a good map, without a doubt. The Pit is/was fantastic, though I feel that the design aspects didn't translate well to Reach. That's probably just me, though. But yeah, good map, good feature, congrats to Chris and Shad0w.
ZOMG CORRUPTIONZ!!!11!1 Great map, great slayer and swat matches played on this map with smaller parties.
One out of the 10 maps that I kept on my harddrive since I got reach, including my own maps. Blockade is more fun than The Pit, and I hate Reach and loved the Pit ..
'Bout god damn time this got featured. Such an awesome map. Really glad with the final product guys... and if anyone HASN'T played it, then shame on you (also shame on those that think it doesnt/wont play great).
Yeah I liked this alot too... Like when it came out a long time ago, I had no idea it was gonna be featured but looky thar! Srsly tho, This is wanna my favorites and its funny that 2 of my top 3 favorite maps are authored by Shadow. Good job again guys but for real, you 2 need to part your ways and continue making your own maps and give us others a chance.
I like this map but it just doesn't capture the same feeling The Pit had. I don't know what it is but something is off. Congrats tho.
A map designed after The Pit was bound to be successful. Blockade will definitely feel familiar to anyone who has played The Pit before, but it obviously is unique enough to stand out on its own as well. Congrats chrst and Shad0w.
"Hey, do they have their flag?" "Yeah, you stick with ours, we'll go get it back" *splosions, defending, attacking, all that jazz* "God Damnit Stevo!" "YOU ARE AN ANIMAL!" Sorry, I know I only tested this map a few times with you guys, but I do remember it. It was insanely fun, and to be honest, Its about damn time.
Where on on Kuroda's team when I went 21-3 in doubles? Because that wasn't the spawns, that was just me being a boss
Ace and I have had issues in more than just that game. We had done other doubles games and FFA games prior where the spawns weren't amazing. Yet every time I mention the spawns, people immediately defend the map, saying that the spawns made to allow for setups and spawn-trapping. Which is true, for the most part, but here's the issue. The Pit's spawns worked because it had specifically designated safe-spawn areas. Shotgun, sword, the bases, etc. Blockade lacks several of these features in attempt to "break the mold" so that the map didn't become identical to the Pit. Which resulted in the Pit, just more open, and with fewer safe spawns.
There. I never got around to playing on this map. I guess I probably should huh? Congrats guys. I'm surprised I haven't seen any "STAFFZ R CORRUPTZ" comments yet...
There was a cry of "ZOMG CORRUPTIONZ!!!11!1 " on the first page. This map is at least good though. Still doesn't come close to The Pit and the spawns really aren't grand, and there is a slight hiccup of frame rate by the snipe spawns... But its a good map.
