This map uses the terrain perfectly! This is one amazing forge map. It kind of reminds me of a mix between Beaver Creek ( From Halo 1), and Isolation ( from Halo 3 ). Those were both amazing maps and I am extremly happy to see them blended togeather. This map should be put in matchmaking! Overall amazing job at creating this map! 5/5!!!
I loved the shade turret, but it was hard to score kills with and people figured out how to knock it down from the tower. I wish they made it shoot faster like it does in the Campaign too.
It's awesome to see this one up and sticked, Goat. I was happy to have been there for so many of the playtests on it, as I thought it was a SUPERB map with a great aesthetic and balanced gameplay. The design reminded me of a mix of a ton of things such as Snowbound and Silent Cartographer are just a few to name, but wow... It's just a great map, and I'm glad to see it's getting the support it deserves. 15/10 on this one.
played this tonight, really good stuff. at first i thought it was weird to see 2 beaver creek inspirations stickied, but they are both very deserving of extra attention. congrats, and congrats again on the excellent map.
Wow a lot of people are noticing similarities to Isolation. I hope they remake Isolation without the whole under portion of the map. I had some Valhalla influence on Jackal Creek early on, but it had to get scrapped. Things like radio a radio antennae and drop pods of weapons are just a few things that looked cool, but cost too much budget. I've got 75 bucks left now even after all the budgeting.
very cool! I like the fact that you used an actual creek rather than just making one from the metallic forge template. Anyways best remake ive seen yet
Overall I like the map, especially the area of Forge World it has been built in, but why has it been at the top of the list for a week now. Don't maps usually keep drifting along? All other maps follow this rule, so why do this one and a few others just stick at the top of the forum now?
Thanks! It's not a true remake though, but rather a combination of various styles of maps. I like Battle Creek a lot, but it wouldn't as a direct remake and I wanted to do something different. I originally had a lot of Valhalla influence on the map, but ultimately it had to be scrapped. If I had more resources and Forge World was a little different, I would have put the map on a cliff instead and left the walls out. From my understanding, there's a new feature where mods will pin interesting maps that they feel deserve to be noticed. The pin only lasts a week though. I'm thankful for the privilege because this week is also the week it was submitted for testing. If all goes well, it should be in MP soon!
OK, good. I didn't want people to be at the top forever, but a week isn't a problem. Thanks for correcting me. I hope you have better luck in the TG than I am. I'm guessing your map is designed for 4 v. 4 matches?
I built Jackal Creek with the intention of a 4v4 map, but when I play it so I find it to be very empty. It can play 4v4, but 6v6 is the sweet spot. 8v8 isn't that bad depending on the gametype. 16 player Covy Slayer is always a blast (the one from the Beta) and so are the custom gametypes we run on it. 4v4 is really only good for gametypes like Team Snipers.
I PLAYED THIS! And it was EPIC!!!! The first map that utilised the terrain perfectly. I actually didn't know where in forgeworld it was at first until I noticed the terrain surrounding the central bridge. Great work!
The first time I played it, it reminded me of Aurora though it holds 16 people and is much larger still this map is B-E-A-UTIFUL ! great job again. NIBSedit: No advertising maps.
The first thing I built on the map was that central bridge. I had built a bridge there on a Forerunner-style Invasion Map on the Island, but that didn't turn out well. I took a different approach and flew high above the bridge once I had placed it. I noticed the terrain was somewhat symmetrical, and then I started to wall it off. I had no idea there were other maps in this location because I don't actively search for maps. I only had a chance to play a few though and they either weren't built very well or they had framerate issues. Jackal Creek went through 20 designs before it reached the one you see in the OP. The thing that's changed most is tweaking and slight remodeling, which added to the design count. I probably have 30+ versions saved on my HDD. Sometime in the future, I'll go back and take screenshots of the old design. The Dam used to be a really interesting covenant platform that had a hologram of the Prophet of Truth! I'm a sucker for a good terrain map. I'm sure we're all bored of Forge World, but there's still a lot of areas that can be used. Aurora is one of the more interesting maps I've seen. We should play it soon!
Well, this map deserves more attention. I like the whole covie aesthetic especially the gravity tower.
this map looked awesome, and the red vs. blue references sold me. anyways, very nice but clean asthetically, looks good!
I love the Covenant aesthetic in general. When I started building the map, the first thing I did was throw some covenant crates and barricades around the bases. I had a lot of covenant weapons on the map too. They were in the old design though, so the whole Dam area had a more covenant look to it. If the map gets in MP i'll link some old concept-art screenshots of the original bases to this thread. Anyway, the Dam area was really Covenant looking and had a hologram of the Prophet of Truth for the Sword to stand against. It looked really cool and maybe in the future I'll use it again. It was a huge budget cruncher though, and in the end I didn't like how it looked. A lot of people worry that the Dam will be camped, but bare in mind that its exact purpose was to offer height advantage. When there was no dam, the only height was the roofs of the bases and the watchtower. The watchtower is something I added early on, and I wanted it to stay. The dam simply counters it and offers height advantage of its own, like the roofs of the bases do. Then of course you have the top of the cave, the cave itself, and red side's mountain. Thanks. 5v5-6v6 is really where this map shines. I love CTF and FFA and I can't wait to play on it again. I'm usually not a FFA player, but during internal testing I noticed how much fun it was on Jackal Creek and I've loved it ever since. Everything's great--Headhunter, Oddball, King of the Hill, Slayer--they're all lots of fun to play even if the gametypes themselves are bad. There's also a special custom game we play on it that's a blast (literally). I haven't played on Jackal Creek in 2+ weeks. I really miss it :/
this map is to simplistic you have minimum creativity put into the map. what i mean by this you used most of the natural geometry and from the looks the map itself or the pieces you placed are about 1000-2000 max. you could have designed the walls more elaborately.
Wow, this is pretty impressive Goat - you did a really nice job capturing the feel of Beaver Creek while also giving the map it's own original feel - very nice. I like the smoothness of the map for the most part, and the construction of the bases is very well done. This one's a keeper, haha.
maybe its just me, but it seems like the download link doesn't exist. can you fix that? otherwise, i does look like a good map. reminds me a little of isolation.
