the lifts could be tricky, and there's a LOT of detail, so i dont think guardian's a good choice.

    maybe, the pit?

I'm done with Minecraft for a while. At least until everything I do on the Mining bros server can't be undone with a single strike of flint.

Seriously though Matti, I thought this was the purpose of a whitelist.

whitelist, among other mods, were rendered unusable on our server. the hMod server mod, which has all the commands a SMP needs like warp, home, tp, chestprotection, whitelist, etc, is outdated, since notch last updated the game. and we're still waiting on another decent server mod to upload the old map to the server.

If we do so without a server mod, the map risks griefing like these temp maps he put up.

Whitelisting or not... why would you take a chance building something entirely of wood? I'd use wood for trim, homes for barn animals, and maybe outdoor shops. Other than those, I'd never use it as my main choice for whatever I'm building.

There isn't some "three little pigs" lesson to be learnt here. Cobblestone looks like crap, and griefer or no, I'm building my house out of goddamn wood. The burden of responsibility isn't on me to build a house that is sturdy but an eyesore, it's on the greifer to not act like a human being and show some ****ing consideration.

That's exactly why I'd never build anything of wood on a public server. Wood is something I'd use in a single player game only.

Christ, I'm getting extremely annoyed trying to get a simple double door to work. For some reason, my doors want to alternate opening and closing. In otherwords, I activate the lever... one door opens, the other door closes. This keeps alternating. One door opens while the other closes. I've tried removing and replacing both doors so they're both closed. I'll activate the switch again... and they'll do the same thing. One door will open, then they'll alternate.

I didn't realize how anal the circuits are when it comes to redstone torches and how they're placed on blocks. Youtube and most of the crap out there don't really go into detail on the actual workings of circuits. Fortunately I looked at an image in the thread on the Minecraft Forum very closely and noticed the redstone torch placement. So I more or less figured it out on my own.

I also didn't realize that the current for torches, only travels about 10 circuits.

It's 15 i believe, and it can be extended with a redstone torch at the end.

10 was just a rough guess... but placing a redstone torch at the end seems to change the mechanics of the whole circuit chain, too.

I tried changing the mechanics of the automatic double door so that I could press a button instead of using the pressure plate. I didn't like the fact that anything could step on a pressure plate to activate the doors. I was building this double door circuit onto my castle wall which has a lava moat on one side, so that kinda added to the difficulty of this build.

You can use two inverters to increase the length. Inverters are made like so:

    - is redstone
    [] is a block
    / is a torch

    -------[]/-[]/-------

would be a double inverter to extend the length restore can reach.

I'm fairly certain the stone pressure plates need an actual player standing on them to be activated to.

I'm pretty sure you can throw a block with Q onto the plate. Even a creep or animal can step on the plate and set it off.

For wooden plates items will activate. I know for a fact items and small animals don't activate stone plates, but I'm not sure if larger mobs like a creeper or skeleton could activate a stone plate.
