Cargo Port

    About two months ago, I began working on a map based off of a section of Reach's awesome campaign. The map was called Cargo Port and was based off of the section in Exodus just after you get a jetpack. The whole area in campaign was really cool, and I had high hopes that it would translate well into a multiplayer map.

    I was right.

    Unfortunately, when I had about 1/3 of the geometry for the map done, I sort of lost interest. I began working on my Tempest map Focal, and still wasn't interested in cmpleting Cargo Port. But then, about a week ago, MattKestrel and I were messing around in forge, showing eachother our unfinished maps and whatnot. I showed him Cargo Port and he was like "Dude!" and I was like "Dude." and then we were both like "Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuddddddddddddeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!" or well, something vaguely similar to that anyway...

    So anyways, we began working on the map and it turned awesome. No one gametype is the best on here. Team Slayer is great, FFA slayer is great, and although it hasn't been tested just yet, One-Flag WILL be great. On top of all this, $v$ Invasion is freakin' sweet on here. The map is intended for 6-12 players, and should be released in another week or two.

    I realize this map is not one hundred percent accurate to the campaign space, but the idea was to get the same layout, and remodel it slightly for multiplayer games. And yes, there is a falcon here in Invasion. It's awesome!

    I actually cannot find anything to criticize about this. Amazing map.

    Some camping stools might be nice just for the feel of the map, but that's up to you.

    depending on what your budget is like, you should add some flare to the long colosseum walls that extend to water level

    In testing this... the only thing you haven't fixed that I had a problem with was that the red (?) team's spawn is on top and blue on bottom. No matter how you place the power weapons, blue has a disadvantage. Red spawns, and pounces on their heads. I'd say moving their spawns to a median level. Just sayin'.

    I've considered adding camping stool, I might as well now that there's a request for them.

    We do have some budget left. We'll look into it, but in-game you actually never, ever notice how bare the colliseum walls are. Be glad they're there at all, but we'll look into it just for you Cookie Monsta.

    I know what you mean Erupt, but there isn't really anywhere else for red to spawn. And the gameplay is fun as is with Blues going up and Reds going down and meeting them in the center. I'll try to put this in the TG tomorrow (humpday!) so we can do some official tests and you can post suggestions for where you think red should spawn in the feedback thread.

    just give blue a few extra nades (i die enough by them so I know they're good)
    it'll help alot, especially if blue has really obvious places to throw them

    yeah, this map looks amazing, props to you on the aazing job(and mattkestrel too)

    We have officially no decorative items, building blocks or bridges. And even if we did, they'd just draw attention away from the playable space, so no.

    Also, Psychoduck, DUUUUUUUDE. This is going to be epic. <3

    Loved playing on this yesterday. :) I just hope you reviewed the videos and saw my bad spawn during Invasion as a Spartan. :X Just minor fixes - watch the rim of you spawn zones.

    Also... as always, I love your choice in weapons on the map. <3

    Blue- Top lift
    Red- Where there's the red corner 4x4's looking out over Forge World, on the same floor as the Fuel Rod in Invasion.

    This may cause them to spawn looking at eachother, but you can make this seem intentional, like in MLG Onslaught, MLG Amplified, MLG Countdown, or MLG Zealot. Not to say you should make this an MLG map or that it IS and MLG map...

    Also, it's not much of a meet in the middle right now. Blue never makes it up more than one story, and red just jumps down on their head. Which leaves the top unused other than for the red to spawn.

    Yay! Another person who likes camping stools!
    I think placing stuff down there would be more distracting
    The upper area is much more confined so it shouldn't give much advantage to the red team.
    This just gave me the greatest (hopefully feasible) idea. No telling for now.

    I was a bit afraid that this map would would turn out like Construct, with EVERYONE trying to get to the top and just sitting there. Actually though, most of the fighting takes place in the center. The top and bottom of the map still get plenty of use though, particularly in One-flag and Invasion. Thanks for showing interest everyone. People seem to really like the map. They say it's different from anything else they've played in Reach, and that's good. We still need to do more testing, particularly in Invasion and Team Slayer. But get excited for next week.

    ^ That's because no one can get to the top because Red team spawns, kills, dies, respawns, and repeat... (Only happens in slayer, so far) I already mentioned back on the first page where I THINK the spawns should go. It's a really good map, but the initial team spawns should change. Imo, I guess.

    We'll see about changinh the initial spawns. I might mess with the spawn system, make it so the teams can switch in TS and blue can actually take over red base and spawn there. I'll see what Matt thinks about changing the initials.

    Alright. I'll try to get you in a game tomorrow, I've been testing the hell out of this and a bunch of other maps all week, sorry I didn't join you today. Matt and I had our own party going (and it was bigger than yours too).

    It looks like Invasion might be the star gametype on this map, even though that wasn't the original intention.

    The only thing that may help map flow, is if you managed to place a man cannon at any lower part of the map that could quick launch a player to a higher level. That might help break any disadvantage a team might have spawning below.

    Seriously though, I'm really sorry to hear that. Hope ya get better soon.

    Line: I've considered that, but I don't really think it's needed and it would completely destroy the look of the map IMO.

    well im glad our little forging session managed to make invasion a little more balanced. I'll see what I can do with the Slayer spawning at some point...
