Emblems removed from Halo 2, 3 or ODST

The picture to the left of this text was my Emblem from Halo 2. It was also my Halo 3, and Halo: Reach Beta Emblem. On the first day of owning Reach, I went to the armory to customize my Spartan's color and give it my classic Emblem.

    The emblem was gone.

No longer available, my Grunt Symbol received the axe--due to IP issues, memory, what have you. I was devastated. My emblem is not the only one to suffer this fate. Many other famous emblems such as the Marathon and Hawk emblem were eliminated, and many more altered in ways that are nearly new emblems.

How can Reach have the ultimate Halo customization, if they cut out the very soul of our customization, our emblems?

My Gamertag, wi1lywonka, was born of that emblem. It was my Halo identity. I used it in the Reach Beta. Bungie tore my identity from me. And why?
Presumably, Emblems were ditched because they took up too much disc space? Really? This does not seem plausible. Now IP issues? More so. But even still, there were no IP issues with Halo 3, or Halo 3: ODST, were there? And since the Grunt Symbol is a part of Halo's IP, how would there be any issues?

In the Bungie.net thread, I received this reply from the Bungie Employee, AGDTinMan:
This provoked a thought: would it be possible to add in new emblems through an update?
The question is whether he meant "no" as in it is not possible, or whether he meant "no" as in he doesn't know. This means there is still hope for those who lost their beloved emblems. But how much hope? The thread has become a desolate wasteland. We received only 7 words from Bungie addressing this issue, and yet the thread has over four hundred replies. Surely we are warranted a full, in-depth explanation. It is just good customer service, we deserve the full truth.

    How You Can Help

Bump and save the Bungie.net Thread and be sure to download and tag the Awareness Picture.

Umm, the emblem I used for a while was taken away as well. BUT, I honestly couldn't care less. They gave us so many new emblems to work with that I didn't mind at all. Plus, I'd rather just play the game then sit around in the armory crying over emblems. Bungie gave us an amazing game that offers unsurpassed replay value, with so many different things to do, maybe you just need to take a step outside of the armory.

    This.
It's not that big of a deal man. The world isn't going to end because a few emblems were removed. Just find a new one and move on.

I do miss my Cube-With-a-Cowboy-Hat, but now the age of the Stylish Cat has begun, so meh. I can't see what motivation they'd have to be deceptive on this issue, it's an emblem for god's sake. If they removed them for reasons of disc space then all the better imo, more room for more important stuff.

This. Because all I do is turn on my copy of Halo: Reach and sit in the armory and cry softly.

Get over yourself people. Nothing is too small to be fixed.

I understand the need to take out emblems for the sake of disk memory and whatnot (its not like they laugh maniacally while axing the emblems), but they took out the most popular symbols in Halo to replace it with new, useless things like lions, elephants, coffee mugs, etc...

Likewise. True nothing is too small to be fixed, but some things are too small to be prioritised over other, objectively more important things in terms of the wider game. What do you want them to do, magically increase the space available on the disc? I can't see how you could perceive any other motive on their part aside from exactly what they stated.

What makes this funny is that in game the emblems are very small, barely noticeable in the campaign let alone multiplayer, and most of the chest armor permutations cover them up anyway.

So why have it in game at all? Why not leave the options there only visible in the lobby next to your name or on B.net, and leave them off the armor all together.

They could release it as a bonus in the next map pack. The map packs take up hard drive space rather than disc space, so that could work. Plus, I'd like to have something more than just map packs as DLC. Every other games do it, so why not Halo?

I wanted to put on my old triplicate emblem in honor of my Halo 2 style before I got rid of my emblem. But, now that one is gone too. Shame, but I think I'll be okay.

Disk space? That's laughable. No way.

They could release them in an update, I believe. It would help if TinMan would clarify his post.

    Edited by merge:

This is also a good point. The emblems are low quality on the Spartans and you can barely see the tiny little things--why not save some processing and just keep them in the lobby?

And as someone mentioned; the memory issue sounds like BS. Tiny little vector images are worthless compared to anything else in the game. And even if they are, they should be able to give to us free via DLC or an update in an emblem pack/update.

Anything's better than only having map DLC.

On that second note, I'd prefer not to have kids screaming about how ninja they are when they are clearly noobs who have never picked up a BR.

Cheer up, OP. Not like the world ended from a couple emblems being removed.

Just make a vector of your old emblem and let it live on forever here on FH like I did. :) I was sad to find mine gone, and it took me a while to settle on something new, but seriously, not the end of the world.

I miss having the bubble shield symbol. I used toggled the hexagon lining off of that and put it on top of the four diamonds to make something that looked like Navi from LoZ.
