    Water Cyclone

Forger: Blade Monkey751 / GOTCHA XD

    Map Name: Water Cyclone

    Gametype: Race

Description: Hello this is Blade Monkey751! Some of you may remember me from Halo 3 or some of you may not [IMG]. Water Cyclone is my most recent map and my first I am posting on Halo: Reach. Water Cyclone includes a gravity defying banked turn, a halfpipe and a back flip! However this is no ordinary backflip, In this backflip you travel backwards, not forward!

    • Q: What inspired your creation? I was playing Trials Hd and I saw a backflip and then a landing behind the flip, its almost like a loop but not really. And it works a helluva lot better than a loop in Halo anyway.
    • Q: How long did it take you to create this track? It took about 25 hrs over a week to make this and I waited a long time before posting this on Halotracks
    • Q: What aspect of the track took the longest to make? Easily the placement of the man cannons and shield doors in the backflip. I was constantly tweaking them until I was finally able to get the flip to work consistently.

this is irrelevant but only a question to myself, "Why do rookies post race maps first?"
Anyways I have to say the curves are pretty smexy, but have you considered that the track may be too long? I see it goes all the way around the island after the racers have hit the bottom, and near the end forging has greatly declined. Would you consider possible curtailing the track to like a teleporter back to the top?

Oh and the questions on your post you could just ask in the forums. Barely anyone answers them (it's sad I know) but there's a chatbox in the forums where you can ask anyone and you'll get a reply.

So I'm a rookie cause I post only race maps? I make race maps and race maps only. I have been forging race tracks since 2007. Maybe I don't like making slayer maps.

At what part of the track does forging greatly decline... Never heard of a complaint of a track being to long, a little bit of a mix between terrain and skytrack never hurts.

I ask no questions in my post so I don't know what your talking about. If your talking about the Q&A than its from being in Halotracks.org where we have to post our answers to those three questions.

First off, this is a really beautiful racetrack. It's technical yet smooth, flows nicely. I really dig it. I need to tell you though, that I had a huge problem with the part where you hit the grass for the first time... each time I did that part I got my wheels glued to the ground by the shield door. That tiny bit needs to be fixed because it's kind of a map killer. Other than that, great job.

I love how felshot suggests that you end your track with a teleporter, and then goes on my track and acts like he doesnt know how teleporters work saying: "I'm not sure if the teleporters maintain motion as in when you drive or fall in the sender, you fall." Haha. it makes no sense. But anyway, about your map.. I really enjoyed it all the way through, there were no noticable mistakes, and i thought the waterslide part was quite ingenius. A fun and original track, i really enjoyed it. Great job man.

haha the felshot post actually makes little to no sense to me cause I did curtail my track back to the top with a teleporter. Terrain adds a little variety to the track imo. And idk what questions hes talking about. I actually seen your map before cause I remember reading that comment. I didnt realize felshot was the same guy!!! (he probably thought the kill ball teleports him lmao)

I really like the map. (Please take into account that I didn't look at the pictures if you continue reading.) Okay so at first I thought it was a regular landscape map around the island with a ramp here and there. Then I see a killball in my way and I think why is this guy trying to kill us? Then I get teleported outside the map and I'm forced to get back as fast as possible. Awesome. Then I fly into a half-pipe (you get stuck if you go to far up the edge though) and cruise on down. Then there's this undescribable backwards upside down jump thing! This is just an overall great map. I really like it and I reccomended it to all my friends.

I played this map earlier as part of my TGIF party.

I must say, this is an excellent race track. I absolutely love how you created the backflip AND the waterfall part. I don't know how you did it but there's some weird invisible guidance system that helps you float into the spiral which is amazing :p

We played this a good few times and it's definately worth a download for the sheer unique fun you get out of it.

Off-Topic: I don't think Felshot meant "rookie" as in a rookie forger, I think he meant it in regards to posting in the forums. However, that doesn't reflect in any way a forgers skill. Keep up the good work (Y)

I am honored you used my race map in the TGIF! The invisible guidance system is in fact the map barrier at the top of the map.

Oh I re-read his post again and I think you may be right! But yes that is probably because most racetrack makers are regulars at the site Halotracks.com (including me) and so we dont post in the the regular forums in forgehub so we are pretty much all "rookies" :)

Very smooth forging. The track is creative and you definitely get a rush out of it.
And p.s. 3000th download no joke

Stickied as part of the Staff Picks trial.

    Duration: 06th Feb - 12th Feb

Reason: The map contains many entertaining features, and uses part of the waterfall which gives the map a whole new scenic feel to racetracks.

I'm glad to see this on Forgehub so I can review it. I've played it a few times now.
First off, well done. I'm in the process of making a racetrack, and I'm using an excel spreadsheet and a calculator, and I still can't make the track move through pitch, yaw, and roll at the same time without making loads of bumps. While I didn't go into forge and inspect your track for bumps (who would?), the mongooses never caught any bumps when I drove the track with my friends, no matter where we drive on the track.
Yet the map still keeps you entertained throughout the majority of its length. There are no long, monotonous sections where nothing much happens (that I've seen in many maps) and most of the 'special' sections are unique to your map. I especially like the waterfall part at the start, though I'd like to know how you made it.
My favourite part would have to be the banked wave, as it helps the map feel like a rollercoaster, yet still lets you overtake and actually race, and is surprisingly easy to drive.

My only ciriticism is that, even though the map doesn't get boring, on your first playthrough you have to have a certain amount of... faith... to survive sometimes. I played with a friend for the first time and he died twice on his first lap. After that he was fine, but he went through the waterfall teleporter too slow and managed to get stuck between the grid and the track (and then succumbed to the "return to battlefield" message), and then at the underwater tunnel part he thought he was going the wrong way and found a way to die there (he didn't specify, although he may have just fallen off the track)

So a unique racetrack with many fun parts to keep you entertained throughout its (surprisingly long, considering the object limit number) length
And no, I haven't reviewed a map on forgehub in over a year :)
