So, I was sitting in a lecture hall, waiting for class to start, when I suddenly and inexplicably had an idea for part of a map. I got out my notebook and did a quick sketch of a single platform with 3 paths extending from it, one going up, one down, and one staying flat. This sketch further evolved in my head until I got home and got some graph paper. I fell in love with the design the moment I finished. As soon as I could get to a computer, I re-drew my design in Illustrator, and made some changes. I fell even more in love. Now I present my design to you for input, advice, or anything else you can offer. I posted a different design here recently, but I'm putting that one on hold because I like this one so much better.

These next bits are important in order to understand the design.

    • The dark lines are object lines.
    • The light lines are a grid. Each square is equal to 1 Forge unit, or a 1x1 block.
    • The dashed lines are areas that can't be seen from that angle.
    • The black arrows represent slopes. They point to the top end.
    • The purple arrows represent man cannons. They point in the direction they shoot.
    First, I have a top-down view.

Next is an Isometric view. This is the simplest 3-dimensional representation I can draw. As such, there's no perspective, so it's difficult to see what's going on in some places. I included height figures to help out. Note that these numbers are not Forge World coordinates; it's simply a relative scale.

There are obviously still some details like cover and railings to be worked out, but that's not important right now. I just wanted to give you a basic idea of the layout.

Thank you very much for reading. I hope you like the design. Please give me any criticism you can think of. Have a nice day.

    I disagree.
The design looks like it would be well suited for ctf with a few changes to the layout. Either extend the upper walkways out to the middle then make a single mancannon jump or enlarge the central platform so it's more than just a small break between jumps and is a playable area. Also add some connection between the bottom and middle walkways or maybe even add another to increase variety in gameplay.

I do as well. This was intended as a floating map.

I really like that central platform, so I'll keep it. Making it bigger would be an easy change. I'm planning on having a power weapon up there, perhaps rockets, so it's not just a break. It will serve as a point of interest.

I'm not sure how to go about adding a connection between bottom and middle. I'll give that some thought. It's a good idea, considering that there are only 2 paths to choose from down there.

    Edit: Done.

I updated the pictures in the OP. There's another path up from bottom to mid, and the middle platform is bigger.

It looks pretty cool, though I somewhat agree with the indoor idea. You should see how it looks with walls surrounding it (in a rectangle around it but not in contact with any part of the map itself) and a ceiling. This could differentiate it from other floating maps, while still serving the purpose of death when someone falls off.

But having rockets in the center would only promote someone to abuse that area I would suggest a shotgun, since it would be ineffective in that area. This further promotes movement throughout the map, since the person would ideally take the shotgun to an area where it could be utilized more effectively.
Rockets could easily defend that entire area for a prolonged period of time in the hands of an experienced player.

Also the end of each base seems like too much of a bottleneck. Maybe have a teleporter leading to each mancannon area or to the other platforms on either side of the center.

Sorry, but I don't see the point of having a surrounding wall. It would differentiate it from other floating maps, but it would also replace the beautiful Forge World landscape with bland gray. Plus there's no practical point. If you were to build a structure in the air/above the water, would would be the point of having a wall and ceiling surrounding it? It would also simply be a waste of objects. So basically, thanks, but no thanks.

The weapon set isn't carved in stone. Rockets on top was just a thought. I see your point. That area could easily be controlled by a decent player with rockets. I'll consider the shotgun, or maybe sword.

I don't see the bottleneck you're referring to. Each base has multiple paths to choose from. The only potential camping spot I can see is the upper platform, but scarcity of cover could remedy that pretty easily.
