Played a custom on this today and the map is well forged. I don't car too much for close combat and I love team shots, so the lack of good LOS is a bit deterring. I didn't notice there was an outside area until someone mentioned it, the middle is where all the action was. I had some frame-rate issue's @ the same spots Secret pointed out and also hated that there is a sword, but this is all just opinion. Overall I think it's a really good map and far better than any map Bungie has featured.
^This. Good point. I often forget that my idea of what is "fun" (ie; MLG play) does not conform to what the majority of players find to be fun. As yes, this map is fun all the same. As far as the outsides go, rather than a concussion rifle, how about an OS or Invis? As they've been fixed now (in the MM playlists) I'd think they would be much more attractive to players to pick up than a CR. Sure the CR counters the sword nicely, but who picks it up specifically for that?
I'd have to say this is one of the worst write ups I've ever read, or one of the best maps I've ever played.
Congrats on the feature man. As convenient as it may seem that Shadow's map got featured, allow me to say it truly deserves its spot on the front page. One of the better ones available right now.
What the hell happened to writeups? In the days of Foundry features, they sounded respectable and like we were actually an important site. Now they are all unfunny jibberish about anything but the maps and inside jokes that like 5 members get.
I think the idea is that the journo's have written a lot of features stating the same things about how great the maps are and why you should play them, so at this point they are trying to inject a little bit of humor, more for there own creative drive to keep doing this than for anyone else. My personal opinions, I agree with you, keeping a standard format about what makes the map fun to play and why it deserves a feature over other maps which aren't would be more beneficial to the forging community.
I dont think its "convinient". People cant expect for a great mapmaker to upgrade and move up in the forum, in this case to Admin, and stop getting featured. Its like some people think he you should be disqualified because of your member status and it gets old. The deal is this, you make a good enough map, regardless of who you are, and it will get featured. Period. This map certainly deserves it by all means and is one of my favorites so far. I will say that I am ready to see some friggin good asymmetric maps out there. I tired of seeing symmetric maps. Regardless, this is a good map Shadow, so stop co-forging with Chris and look what you get, lol.
Exactly. I can say the same bullshit about every map I see. Excellent flow..lines of sight that promote great teamwork but still leave players feeling safe. The sniper plays a huge role. Great br combat for competitve players. It was the same bs for every foundry map the community complained..said they never read them. It's a waste of time trying to appease because someone is always going to hate something. You want my honest thoughts? This is a great map and there is no doubt that it should have been featured. That's too short for a write up.
chris...forgehub favorites...NAO anyway, I certainly understand the line of thinking and I do agree some creativity never hurt anybody and is encouraged, but there is no reason why a well defined statement of features of why the map is good (and not all featured maps are good for the same reasons) and worth the feature and creativity and humor can't be in a featured write up
It's true, when featuring a competitive map, a lot of things can be said about it which could also be said about any other good map. But as I've tested and played this map, there is a something to it that makes it unique. Its sense of "whole-ness," as a result of the specific lines of sight from sniper-to-base (Which are oh-so awesome), the effectiveness of the out-door area, which acts as a 'release' to the indoor sections of the map, and the overall natural and unforced flow which so many maps lack.
I think we should all stop with the arguing about petty disagreements and give credit to the map as it deserves. There really isn't any need to have 3 different discussions about things totally off-topic from this feature. It's featured because it's a good map. If you don't think the write up describes the map properly download the map and find out. If you have played the map and you don't think it should be... that's your opinion. If you don't think the article is wrote with the best content in mind, provide feedback on it in the right place! That is all.
I played this last night in a 1v1 for a quick warm up and it played great. Obviously it was just a 1v1, but it was entertaining, and that's what matters.
