So I'm pretty new to playing Reach, had it but I lost live soon after receiving, matchmaking. Been around a week of gameplay and something has really bugged me these past few days...why do I always end up facing a team of colonels, commanders, generals, brigadiers, and even field marshals, when Im only a warrant officer? Does this happen to anyone else?? Even before I was a warrant officer, like a sergeant, it would do this to me haha. Idk its just weird to me
Matches are based on a hidden per-playlist-per-player TrueSkill value (the 1-50 from Halo 3). Credit rank has no relevance to skill.
Just because they're high rank doesn't mean they're good. I suggest turning search by skill off as it goes by rank over actual skill. The trueskill still exists. Turn off search by skill and you'll be matched with those of the same trueskill....usually
Wait, seriously? That doesn't sound right. Your rank can be achieved without ever setting foot in to matchmaking, they would set searching by skill to then make sure you are matched with people of a similar Trueskill, otherwise the search might as well be random as each player it finds with a similar rank to you could in theory have any trueskill rank.
Yeah I have to agree, the search by skill function is supposed to focus MM searches around a trueskill match, not around a rank match, that would be completely counter intuitive and frankly useless. I remember Frag Man saying that he was getting quite unbalanced matches in MLG, then started using the search by skill function and noticed more even matches immediately and consistently.
Its means your trueskill is matched with theirs. There is a system that takes your player statistics and win rate and matches it up with players with similar stats/win rate. So you are playing with all of the highly ranked players because you are doing as well as they are. Also note that if you are playing with a friend that has a really high rank and good stats, that makes the competition a bit more difficult when you both search for a map. This system is abused by people constantly because many people constantly lose on purpose to make the competition easier in the future if they want to help friends get better ranks; this is called Deranking.
