Forge Ideas Thread

    Hello there Forgers/Forgehubbers/etc. I thought I'd make a thread were we could post our Forging ideas. I've noticed that the board sometimes get's cluttered with many different threads with loads of different ideas posted by many different people at different times. To remedy that, we could have this collective thread of ideas that anyone could refer to at any time!

    Note that you can post any ideas in this thread, including map ideas, structure ideas, or tech ideas! Any Tech ideas will probably be re posted by myself in the tech thread, if they work, with all credit going to the original poster.

    So, I'll start it off with a few of my own ideas. If the thread gets popular enough, I'll make this first post into a running list of posted ideas =]

    When Posting Ideas, for organizational purposes, simply number your ideas, with your first idea being the first number after the last poster. For instance, if the last person was idea number 17, your first idea would be idea number 18. Got it? =]

    Okay then;
    Idea #1: Banshee Turret/Scorpion Head

    Since it's possible with closely aligned objects to completely trap a banshee, making a banshee into a multi-operational turret is pretty simple, and makes for a nice variant on the use of shade/plasma/machine gun turrets. Having one of these built into a large base would be powerful, and would definitely make for some interesting game play.

    Additionally, while we could never make a moving scorpion, hard-wiring a banshee into the top of a forged one would probably be as close as we'll get to a functioning Scorpion head in reach. Sound like fun? All you'd have to do is use the same concept from the Banshee turret. Simple and Cool!

    Idea #2: Turret Wars!
    Remarkably basic in design, I observed that when you spawn a turret in a place where it immediately breaks, you end up with a stack of turrets that can be picked up. So, instead of spawning a ton of turrets and eating through your budget, spawn just one and give them to your entire team! Seems like it could make for some interesting BTB, and all in all it's just a cool glitch of sorts

    Lockdown

    Invasion

    The team that completes objectives is usually the attacking team. This time it's the defending team. They must complete objectives to successfully lockdown a base or something.

    Example

    Spartans Must first deliver a bomb to a rock face which will cause a rockslide to block the main road to the base.

    Then they must repair a fuel line which will allow them to utilize their defensive vehicles

    Finally they must steal a core from the elite outpost which will power up the shield doors.

    Sacrifices

    CTF

    The teams have a base on either side of the valley seperating montana and alaska.
    If they feel the need they may destroy one of 3 bridges. Making it easier for each team to defend. But harder to invade.

    They can also sacrifice valuable sniper ammo to Block off the enemy vehicle garage temprorarily. The crates (door) have a 180 sec. respawn time. Meaning they will open back up in approximatly 90 seconds or so.

    Another sacrifice they can make is wasting time to get the oh so valuable splaser at the bottom of the gorge. Each team has a banshee in their garage but it may be diffucult to land on the splaser spawn as it is on a small rock (sideways arch) which may be hard to land on.
    Then again there could be a teammate riding on top of the banshee :p

    The final most debilitating sacrfice is to drive your wraith into a sqaure box with a shield door on one side. Once the wraith enters it can not escape but is strongly covered and can possibly only be destroyed by the splaser. The player driving the wraith is also trapped.

    Idea #3 (or 5, if we count OPs): Forgeworld Tree Usage.

    One of the things I've noticed while forge-balling around Forgeworld is that it's filled with many trees. Another thing I've noticed is that when you set an immovable object to "Phased", you can actually put it through the tree! I think it would be pretty neat to make an enclosed map with decorative tree coming through the floor. I mean, you wouldn't even have to think about gameplay. Just stick some giant walls around a tree and post it, regardless of how unpolished and gimmicky your map is.

    Edit: Idea #4 (or 6): Forgeworld water usage.

    Also, I've noticed that your Spartan doesn't die after touching Forgeworld's water if he doesn't wade in deep enough. Now, I haven't tested this with Elites, but I'm assuming they won't die either. I propose we slightly dip the floor of all our future maps into the water. Think about how cool that would look! I mean, damn the horrible effects it has on framerate lag and grenade usage! Other than that, there's nothing stopping us from churning out hundreds of these maps!

    But i think that was before Reach was released. Anyways, i got some nice ideas, these are actually projects i will make later but i don't think i'll post them.

    Idea 7: Halo Wars.
    It'd be Invasion Slayer, No Shields, Damage Resistance, PP starting weapon, no headshots or assasinations. It would use the old H3 Loadout system(Not neccessary if you don't want Machine Gun units) and every Phase a hero can be chosen. You press one of the switches that opens one of the bays that is full of Weapons and Vehicles. For example ODST's there would be a Teleporter that leads to an ODST Ship hanging in the air. Besides the stuff you get from Hero's there are also some standard Weapons and Vehicles per base. EDIT: Multiple Maps can be made with this Gametype.

    Idea 8: Mountain Rush.
    Similar to New Everest, it's built only on the Breakpoint mountain. Attackers spawn near the Phantom and Defenders all the way up. So the attackers just have to heist the flag. There are Bridges and Heavy Barriers to make the mountain wider and there should also be a Man Cannon near the Research Station for the Attackers to get more easily above. The Gametype would be CTF and without AA's to give it more of a H3 feeling like it's intended to do. Every base does get a Drop Shield. Weapons include everything except: Sniper Rifle, Grenade Launcher, Plasma Repeater, Fuel Rod Gun, Needle Rifle, Machine Gun Turret, Gravity Hammer and Concussion Rifle.

    Idea 9: Flying Saucers.
    A remake from the popular Halo 3 Map, would have the same weapon layout as Mountain Rush. It will be on Breakpoint too, Attackers get 2 Warthogs and 2 Falcons while Defenders get 3 or 4 Banshees.

    What's it matter if it's before Reach came out or after Reach came out? A thread about forge ideas is a thread about forge ideas. This thread isn't reinventing the wheel... it's serving the exact same purpose as the original, therefore a duplicate thread.

    Shroomz is right, the whole point for the stickied "What Map Ideas" thread was to avoid spammish singular thread idea posts, and have a single place to talk about them. Granted, this thread IS for posting ideas from the community, but that's basically what the stickied thread is.
