I apologize in advance... this map features no trees.

The follow up to my supremely successful symmetrical map, Genome.

As the name might suggest to anyone who knows my map history, this map is once again an example of me digging into my Halo 3 map catalog for ideas. This one barely resembles the original though, having transformed into a four point floating map as I sketched and re-sketched and forged and re-forged ideas for a more balanced design capable of supporting 4v4 comfortably. Nothing remains the same as the original except the name.

Look for Artifical some time next week, or if you're the impatient type there's a playable version set up for MLG gametypes on my fileshare.

FUUUUUUUUUU. This might be the sole reason for me to want to get the Noble Map Pack DLC. I tried joining you yesterday for like ten minutes until I realized that you were on Tempest. Definitely looks good dude.

Looks pretty sweet from the pics. I'm guessing they cover the map in a clockwise fashion except for the last one which I cannot figure where it is on the map. Is there a way you could post an overview or are you too close to the ceiling of tempest? Can't wait to see how this turns out.

I really enjoyed playing on this map with you guys, it felt very balanced and I didn't feel like I lost my position at any point. I did jump through the window near the double window's room twice and for some reason missed the bridge below but I think thats my heavy strafe/jump style. The brightness of tempest doesn't bother me, but that might be a complaint you hear often, like you control that lighting ;)

Looking forward to more gameplay on here, another great example of a real competitive map. It seem's competitive has lost it's meaning for most I've played on lately.

Fritzster shifted a lot of things around gold for me doing some OCD clean up work, so that may have opened up the cramping a bit, though I don't know specifically what you're referring to so I'm not sure. Glad you enjoyed the map though.
Ahh, was wondering why you wouldn't join. You missed out noob.

I am too close to the soft barrier of Tempest. Perhaps when I take screens for the release thread I'll break my way out of the soft barrier with teleporters and get a proper overview. And yes, they do go around clockwise. The final screenshot is back gold, because I like how those walls look and I wanted to get the screenshot of them.

I jumped out of the glass hall window and missed the bridge too lol. Was very embarrassed to be jumping off of my own map lol. I think everyone will end up doing that once and feel silly doing it.

I DL'ed it and looked through it in forge and everyone... THIS IS HOW YOU FORGE. Using objects uniquely like we were forced to do in Halo 3 is what makes maps like this stand out. I can't wait to get some games on it. Invite me whenever you're playing it.

    Thank you :)

The version I submitted to MLG is now on my fileshare. Would've liked more time to test before submitting, but that's what happens when you procrastinate I guess. I'm going to make a default gametypes version and run more tests before posting it here, so no release thread yet.

So I had to check out your pre-released version and I am really impressed. Each room has its own feel and interesting connections to other areas. The power weapons seemed to be in nice and risky locations. One complaint I had was I felt the hard kill zone was just too low and close to the soft kill. I know players will learn quickly not to use jet packs liberally but I felt like there should have been a little more breathing room. Overall though the map had a nice flow and intuitive use of cover throughout. If you ever need a tester, I'm down, although I will be away from xbox for the holidays. :(

The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it's forged on Tempest. For some reason Tempest is just so obscenely bright compared to the other maps in the game and I have to play in the highest brightness setting because of my shitpoor eyesight.

Still, that's a trivial matter. I'll still need to play games on it before I can actually judge whether it's good or great or average.

There are some well-working FX combinations he can use. The brightness of Tempest really isn't much of a problem for me, TBH.

Another great map, but from the screenshots it looks a bit similar to Genome. Not that it would be a bad thing, I just thought you were going to change up your style a bit for your next map. Or is this the remake you were planning to do on Tempest?

    Edited by merge:

Ah, this is a remake of one of your previous Halo 3 maps. Guess it would have helped to read the entire thing. First time I've forgotten that in awhile. Looked at the screenshots a second time and it looks a lot less like Genome. My mistake on that one. Again, not a bad thing that it looks less like Genome. Genome is the sole reason I don't like Bungie any more, now. You should have won that Forgetacular contest, but I guess Bungie favors mediocre maps over the ones that were actually good.

Huh, I forgot that I had posted this preview thread here. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to actually posting the map itself here too. As for similarity to Genome, I really don't know where you're getting that from, this is nothing like it.

As for Forgetacular, I did not end up submitting anything to it. Genome was/is still a front runner for the MLG playlist so I did not feel like submitting it to Forgetacular as well, and I did not have any other map I was happy with at submission time. Plus, Genome was already rejected once for playlist inclusion by Bungie due to object density/performance issues, so it could not have won Forgetacular even if I had submitted it.

I'll have to post Artificial here one of these days. I just got so irritated at a collection of things in the forge community and with Halo that I pretty much stopped playing for most of December/January and I never got around to posting Artificial.
