So this map started as a map designed in halo 3 that I never got around to completing. I worked well over enough time planning this map out and didn't want all my work to go to waste. After playing the reach beta I quickly started re-designing the map to fit the change of gameplay style between games. I had a good idea of what to fix, so it was really easy to get the head start by planning before the games release. After a few months of drawing out and making my idea clear in my head, the game was released. I went into forge and quickly got used to the forge system, built a map in the first few hours, played some matchmaking and went to sleep. Day 2 came and I decided I wanted to make the map I had been planning for what seem to have been ages. (Even before sandbox was released). And here it is. YouTube - Reach Forge Map: Insomnia Insomnia is a map built specifically for 2v2 games (DMR starts maybe AR secondary depending on what you prefer) with armor abilities. Why only with them? Because of the highground advantage, it was just built for you to take advantage of them. Teamwork and top control is a pretty big deal in this map where the weapon control isn't quite as important. The map may be able to play 3v3 and if you like it caotic 4v4 but I wouldnt recommend it. The gametypes set up are only Oddball and slayer. Along with a few DMRs and Needle rifles scattered across the map the weapon set is, 2 snipers, Splaser, Plasma pistol, Rockets, 2 plasma rifles and a plasma repeater. MORE PICTURE Thank you Multi for the beautiful pictures, here are some more. With BlackOps being out now, I don't expect too many downloads but for those of you who do, I would greatly appreciate feedback. Thanks.
Wow! This map looks great! I love how much focus was put into making three distinct levels! The architecture looks great as well, including the slightly asymmetrical block sculpture in one of your pics. My only concern is that the filter you are using makes everything look grayer than it already is, making the awesome map look bland at first glance. Overall, inspiring map! You did a really great job!
Thank you for your thoughts. The map doesn't actually have a filter on it though, the pictures are just edited to look fancy. haha. but I appreciate the concern.
I actually thought that the gray filter made it look better, haha. I think the architecture is very well done, and I can't really get a feel for the gameplay through the picture but I'll try downloading to see what it's like.
I did a quick 1v1 on this before even opening it up in Forge. Both my opponent and I got lost a few times in the opening minutes of the battle, mostly in the ramp areas from lower to upper levels. Something to help you keep orientation would be nice, but I have a sneaking suspicion this may be an issue with overall LoS of the map. But my very first impression was "This map could easily support more then 6 players". You gotta remember, a map like Ascension works perfectly well with 8 people in a team game. This map is notably larger. I would even go so far as to say the recommended player count should be a 6v6. You may want to consider using something other then [Double Wall] to make those hallways though. They do not look pleasing to the eye when they overlap like that. Speaking of weapons though, the no extra ammo for the shotgun struck me as odd. It doesn't seem like the weapon would be nearly as powerful on this map to justify that treatment, so I wonder what your thoughts were there. Oh, and there is a lot of Z Fighting going on with your textures. And your health packs are floating off the walls, not touching them.
A little more of a review would be appreciated. I'm glad you decided to make a comment on my map at all, but just commenting saying good pics is sort of spam.
Here's my review. Things I like The layout of the bases. Keeping it simple, stupid. (Meaning, easy to understand but gets the job done well. L.O.S. blocks, for example the fin on the walkway upward. Lift operation. (Lifts are in good places and made well) Overall, everything. Things I dislike None. I really can't find anything wrong.
Thank you for the review and I'm glad you like it. Do you think by any chance you may be able to capture a gameplay video if I sent you one? If not it's cool but I figured I'd ask cause it'd probably help me out a lot to show people the general flow of the map.
very nice map blaze, i enjoyed play testing it with a 2v2, it played well. The map looks great and flows nicely, great job blaze!
Glad you had fun, thank you for the feed back try and get a 2v2 sometime, it plays much faster and smoother with 4 people rather than 2.
Hey man, I gotta ask ya to change the thumbnail to a non edited screenshot. Its against forum rules. I'll give you 24 hours to do so before i remove the thumbnail all together.
Forum policy to prevent obnoxious thumbnails. If you can do it in a screenshot, like filters in-game, then have at it. Great map by the way.
Ok. I wasn't trying to be a smart ass asking that. I was just thinking outside of the box. And I'm glad you like it, we diffidently need to play together sometime. I've been testing my other maps like crazy lately.
from the pictures, your map looks very cool. I'm actually pretty sure it is. does it play good? and an overview would be nice because it's hard to picture the map for me.
