Ways To Make A Gradual Damaging Death Pit

    Now, before I start, I want to go ahead and say that this isn't a tutorial; more of a request. If you're okay with that and want to help figure out some ways to get a gradual death pit working, keep reading. I thought of all places, Forge Hub would be the community to help me figure this out.

    What I mean by a 'gradual damaging death pit'; say there's a lava pit in the center of your map, an electric floor made with shield doors or even a shallow body of water that when fallen into gradually takes down your shields, and then your health until you die. Say it takes down 25% of your shield every second you're in the pit, so it's your best bet to either jump out or find the nearest ramp before you meet your death. This type of death pit punishes players who miss jumps, or simply fall off a ledge, but doesn't go as far as to kill them; unless they either get killed by an opponent before they get out, or are unable to get out before death due to player error, or damage dealt before-hand.

    Now that we have the explanation out of the way, does anybody have any idea on how to accomplish this in Forge? I thought of setting up a KOTH gametype to basically play slayer while having a hill below the boundaries of the map, but still in the lava pit, and set the hill traits to decay your shield and health, but to my luck, Bungie decided to not include that option in Reach, yet it was in H3. I've briefly tested having man-cannons shoot around street cones under the lava pit to hit you, but that results in early suicides, or doesn't work at all.

    Anybody have any ideas? It could open some amazing possibilities for maps.

    If the pit isn't too big, you can use custom power ups to do what you intended the KOTH hill to do.

    Good idea, but (to my knowledge) the only way for that to work would be if you had the option to set different properties to each custom power up; one to 75% shield, the next to 50% shield, then to 25%, and sadly you can only set the properties of a single custom powerup, and that affects all of them. Then, even if you could somehow set different properties to each powerup, what do you do about killing the player? It's doubtful you could even set up a single custom powerup to do this, as there's no shield/health decay options. But overall it's a solid idea, and I'll look into it more.

    Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to have much luck getting the health and shields to decrease overtime. Perhaps you can make hazards for those that miss their jumps such as less than lethal fall damage. If you combine slopes with one way shields that have a lower angle than the slope (this would cause the shield to push the player down the slope) you might be able to push unlucky players to their doom.

    Perhaps if the hole under the lava pit has a drop you could have fussion reactor or some kind of explosion to cause the damage then have something explosive higher up that will cause the damage in chain reaction. set the respawn of item every second so then it would gradually reduce shield and life. Is this any help?

    I could build it and show u if you think i'm on right lines and post pic. if u want? it would have a tunnel down topped with 1 , 1way sheild giving you the red to look like lava, and say 2 or 3 explosives in chain reaction to cause the damage

    the top fussion coil is not fixed and respawns there each time.. It does take lot of time and patients to get it right. and in this it is just done quickly, if you took more time and maybe made a larger version. also I have no one to test with to see correct distance but this shows you what I ment.

    I can't think of a way to do it with time, only distance traveled.
    scatter trip mines ~1 meter away from each other under one-way shields and have rails angled 45* to separate the mines, so all don't blow up, but just one at a time.

    Would look like this, /\-===-/\-===-/\-===-/\

    (-) is shield
    (/\) is rail

    Why not just set up a soft kill zone a tad bid over a 'one way shield' (looks like lava kinda). It gives the effect that you are dying. Sure your health doesn't decrease but you would die within 10 seconds. Idk though. The idea mentioned earlier about making a chain reaction sounds pretty good to me.

    this is probably totally unhelpful but if you have a vehicle entombed in blocks to where it starts shaking just standing on it will damage you. How you could make it into a pit of doom, I have no clue.

    It would be less elegant but you could put a bunch of boxes being pushed around by man cannons down there. So they would be caught in a kind of wind tunnel deal and each time one of the boxes hit them it would do some damage.

    I love this idea! It would be like a grinder pit. Just make walls steep enough that they would funnel the crates down to man cannons at the bottom and the thing should keep on "grinding". It'd be tough to get out of.

    I think you can change custom powerups to slowly decay your shields. Unless Bungie removed that. Which would suck.

    you could put a soft kill zone down and....no just kidding but i have a "death pit" in one of my maps...but its not really a "slow death pit" its a "oh, SH*T better get out before i die, death pit"

    what it is - i placed a wall flat then under that i have lifts that will push kill balls up so that they just barley show enough orange glow to kill you...but its kind of like a mouse trap of death under there. i have kill balls not only boosting from the lift, but also kill balls that spawn in and roll on tracks, if you will, across doing the same thing. now i know its not exactly what your looking for. but it still gives the same feel. If you miss a jump you get that, OH F*CK, i need to get out of here...which will bump your heart rate a little...

    Are you retarded? What does that have to do with the OP?

    To answer your question though Lampshade, just set the Custom Powerup traits to Shield Recharge Rate :: -10% or something like that. Point is, it'll be somewhere in the Shield Recharge Rate option.

    The shield decay option isn't available in Reach. Massive fail on Bungie's part.

    I was messing around in forge today trying to create it and I've pretty much come to conclusion that it's impossible. Bungie made it where if a moved object shakes too much, it'll disappear, so using vehicles is out of the question, and movable objects don't damage you like H3. Ha not a big deal, just thought it would be a cool idea.

    This exact form of pit would be impossible, but you could do a soft kill barrier in the pit, along with a one way shield to slow you down and prevent jumping. That would certainly punish players.

    no my immature friend i am not, thank you for reminding me. i dont know if you read the preface of the post...but i said its not EXACTLY what hes looking for.....but it is an idea....which he asked for.

    Um, what about a Shield Door box with a Scorpion in it on it's back? The idea is to have the Scorpion bounce around a tiny bit doing minor damage while you're standing on top.

    What do you mean? I managed to splatter myself with a pallet on Reflection.

    Unless you mean like soccer balls, in which case I still think they can if they are fast enough.
