Falcon Crash (Now With Pictures!)

    Falcon Crash (Now With Rendered Video!)

    The idea is that you must jet pack up and then pilot the falcon before it either hits you or falls and blows up. I came up with this idea at first to start an invasion map maybe.

    Right now I'm still trying to make the catching them easy enough that it will be consistent game play so it has turned into a possible minigame. It has been incredibly difficult to do so playing by myself and I have yet to figure out a good scoring system.

    You have to time it right. I will also be adding buildings that will be higher than the falcons.

    When it gets close enough if it is flipped you can flip it back over in mid air.

    If you don't time it right or move along with it well enough you could end up splattered but even if you get it you will always lose a bit of your shields slowing it down enough to climb in. I think shotguns would be a fun weapon with a lot of people fighting for the falcons.

    I really would like to hear your thoughts on the idea and possibilities.

    Also looking for people who might want to forge it with me or try it out. It is quite fun but hard at the moment.

    the film clip is in the unrendered format. hence, WE, the observers, must have bungie pro to watch it. I happen to not have it, along with many other people. get that fixed.

    as for the idea, im not sure if i understand. more from me if you get this fixed.

    I think I might try and do a KOTH type scoring but I'm not sure how that would work with multiple falcons. I don't want to get too far into forging this until I can figure out a solid scoring system.

    Is there anyway outside of invasion to make all the falcons hills all the time?

    That looks pretty awesome. The pics could be better but I really like the ides. How far along on this are you?

    Few thoughts:

    • It looks cool, but I feel that if you start your map with this every round / spawn it could get gimmicky quickly. Also, without telling players what's happening it would be very disorienting to start a map like this and need to hit the ground running.
    • If the falcon needs to be used in combat, it looks like both you and the falcon take a good chunk of damage in the process that might compromise your longevity.
    • lastly, seeing how terrible the majority of people are at flying a falcon to being with, I feel unless you're playing with good people you know, this could be infinitely frustrating as the kid who "likes that flying thing" tries to catch and fly this resulting in a triple suicide.


    That being said, I love the idea. It looks really cool and good luck. If you're using this for an invasion map it might make a good initial spawn to fly to a landing pad and then have the invasion round continue from there with the respawns on the landing pad.

    Thanks. That is great.

    As far as where I am on this, I have placed most of the falcons(3 or 4 in total). I really can't figure out a way to score this correctly. I was thinking of doing a territories type game or something so all of the falcons would be hills all the time.

    Does anyone have any good ideas for scoring? I really wanted it to be more of a point by point thing like stockpile but there is no making the falcon a flag.

    No problem, you could always make a tunnel/room that you need to fly into and can only reach with the falcon that has a KoTH/Territories/Race objective. You would need to spend 1 sec in the onjective to score and have bombs that blow up ever X second so that you capture the point then blow up and need to respwan and get a new falcon and go back to score again.

    That sounds like a really good idea.

    I got it.

    A vehicle only teleporter leading to a closed room with a hill. Filled with mines so you only score one point each time.

    I am going to try that after work.

    Tried this last night and need to find a definite way to blow up the falcon that doesn't happen so quickly. It blew up before the hill even registered 1 second.

    That video is awesome. Your health does look a little low after catching the falcon. You may want to fix that. If you haven't already.

    I don't know what to do about the scoring system though. Is there a way to make it move after a certain number of points are scored?

    what if you made it a neutral assault mode where the falcons were the bomb

    If you redirect a few mancannons to different locations and put two or more of the falcons to the same respawn time the random direction launches become more possible, allowing more genuine play. Also think about more in the water, as the water sends any uncaught falcons into destruction and sooner respawn allowing faster gameplay.

    I like the idea but more needs to be seen.

    I tried that first but you can't make a falcon a bomb. The bomb will just spawn under the falcon. Same with flags. I think I'm going to have to do something different with the explosives in the scoring zone.

    I just really want to make sure it won't be exploited because no one wants to lose to an exploit.

    Yeah I'm working on it. Most of the time the falcons blow up when they hit the ground due to them hitting the ground before being launched.

    I would like to get some players to play it with me in forge so I can get a better idea of where people would like platforms and weapons. I also need to see how people adapt to the concept and situation.

    If anyone is interested I will be working on it later tonight. Hopefully by 9 pm EST.

    It doesn't really look too easy to me. :p

    It does look like it would be crazy but tough to understand at first.

    I've had a new idea while here at work. Which is where the best ideas come from. I am going to try and make the scoring system like the Smash ball or revball gametype that was floating around a while back.

    The falcon would fly into a teleporter of which there would be one for each team. and hopefully the explosion from the falcon would make a ball roll into a goal and score one point each time.

    Thoughts?
