Spartans can lock down their armor to survive crashes and such like what Jorge and Noble 6 did when attacking the spire to survive the falcon crash.

That was because they were in the middle of a crash with a falcon potentially exploding around them.

This thread is starting to tangent into AA bashing and was answered relatively early on.

    Recommend lock?

It'll die soon enough, its running on a tangent, still talking about possible problems with the story.

All my friends thought I was crazy when I said he had that backpack that said "RE-ENTRY" on it!

The MJOLNIR Mark-VI that Chief was wearing at the beginning of H3 had a "re-entry pack" built into the armor. The backpack that Noble 6 was wearing when Jorge pushed him out of the Corvette was for a similar function. It locks down the joints of the armor, which prevents dismemberment and other very painful things, and does something funky with the gel layers in the suit, causing them to become a very efficient cushion. It does have side effects, though, immobilizing the Spartan while in free-fall and severely limiting their mobility for a short while after. The impact itself can also have adverse side effects, even after it has been cushioned.

This is the general Halo Reach section, not the forging-specific section.

Okay, so I can believe that by locking down their armor and using a re-entry pack, Spartans can survive a fall from orbit. What I find hard to believe is that they'll die from a drop that's maybe 3 or 4 stories high.

And why can't Spartans survive underwater? Don't they have air-tight suits with an independent supply of oxygen? I mean, what? You can survive in the vacuum of outer space, but stick your head underwater and you'll drown like a turkey during a storm?

This was done for game-balancing issues.

Nemi, if you've ever played Halo 2, you'd know that MC jumps into a lake to escape danger.

There's also the point about how a spartan always falls perfectly feet first, and how when only his feet are in a mancannon, his whole body moves forward instead of it just hitting his feet and flipping him around, not to mention that when they fly into space, they only go vertical then suddenly just stop and are in orbit. (Orbiting requires radial velocity.) You're beating a dead horse nemi. Anyways this thread should probably be locked.

Plus your charachter doesnt have time to deploy all those saftey measures, whereas a fall from space takes a while.

Also alot was done for game balancing issues, I read on Halo wiki, that in actuality a plasma bolt from a ghost will rip straight through a warthog.

ORRRRRRR you could stop posting in it? See how that works? ;) If a thread has no cause for a lock, and it is annoying you, the very easy and simple solution is do to, literally, nothing. Because then the thread will die like so many little asian girls that i find in the streets at night.

I think you are looking at it as if its supposed to be realistic.
And what the guy above me said is exactly the right answer.

I think the answer lies in the fact that the armors are designed for space, or normal atmosphere. Which means the amount of pressure they can take is anywhere from 0 to 1 atmospheres. When you go underwater, pressure increases with depth in the same way air is thinner at higher altitudes. The body armor isn't designed to function in that kind of pressure, or move underwater, so its bad news for spartans. If you've ever seen a submarine movie you can imagine what I mean. Imagine those types of spraying leaks in a body suit.

Now, I admit it doesn't make much sense that they die immediately, but I suppose that's more for gameplay than cannon. it would probably take a certain depth for the pressure to break the armor.

Are you are talking about the space battle in Long Night of Solace or something else?
