Finishing up a new map, looking for playtesters, etc. The concept is loosely based on Venice with its beautiful canals and big buildings. Here we have two large 2-story bases (3-story if you count the roof, which is accessible); a huge floating rock monument in the center; two large water pipes that break up lines of sight to hopefully avoid both lag and sniper domination; and a system of canals that can be traversed on foot or in vehicles, of which there are six (two rocket hogs, four mongooses). The map is meant for at least 4 vs. 4 play, and has some design similarities to Rat's Nest and Valhalla, while ultimately not feeling like either of them really.

The building and platform aesthetics are deliberately a bit low-rent - the map is enormous and I just couldn't put in the amount of structures I wanted if I built anything to look too pretty. From the ground though I think it's still a fairly nice-looking map, mainly because of the canals and the big floating rock.

Weapons include: two snipers, two swords, two rocket launchers (but with only 2 shots each, in Standoff fashion), one laser, and assorted small weapons including of course lots of DMRs. Also one machine gun turret per base.

Looks great! You might want to do something visually to indicate what's canal and what's pit-o-death water, though. I didn't understand it until I saw the submerged hog.

Looks interesting, I like how it's come along since we popped in during the build. I'm up for playtesting, when I can find time in between my map and matchmaking lol

Thanks man, I'll look you up at some point when I'm online, once I've set up the game types (which is all I have left to do, I think).

thecairocat - it's fairly obvious once you get on the map, but when I post it officially I'll include that info in the description. All the canals are safe; the water outside the map (the ocean) is not. The only water inside the map's basic rectangle shape that isn't safe is the two pits on the sides (that bracket the floating rock). Those are deeper than the canals and therefore will kill you. I actually had originally intended to make the canals safe only for vehicles (with a low kill zone for pedestrians) but decided it would play a lot better if you could also walk there. Of course with the hogs cruising around, it's very dangerous...

molethemole - yep you can "swim," or actually just run through the canals. There are grids under the water that prevent you from dropping far enough to drown. That's not my original idea but I stole it with glee.

Just letting you know water blocks rockets and plasma, and possibly some other things. That could be a slight problem in some situations, especially since it looks like the water is deep enough for players to duck under.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know that. I'll have to test out a few things but hopefully it will just make things more interesting rather than screwing up the gameplay.

This is released now, and proved to be quite fun for 8 vs 8 CTF: http://www.forgehub.com/forum/reach-competitive-maps/112789-canals-venus.html
