First, if I've posted in the wrong forum, I'm sorry.

I've been forging pretty much ever since I got Reach around a month ago, and I've run across some problems when I forge. First, how do people correctly place weapons so neatly against walls? Whenever I try to prop a weapon against a wall it just slides down and tumbles onto the ground. I've also noticed people have managed to get weapons on walls - how do they do this?

Second, I've run into problems with the camera, mainly when trying to rotate pieces. If a piece is partially phased into the ground, it seems the camera will always try to zoom in directly onto the piece, often resulting in it zooming straight into the ground. Is there any way to avoid this?

    And lastly, I've got a map I've been working on for about 10-12 hours, and I feel it's close to being finished. However, because I have satellite internet (yuck), I can no longer test it live with any of my friends. Is it okay if I post it and ask for feedback, because I can't test it myself? The thing I'm concerned about is how balanced the map feels. I know how to correctly post a thread with screenshots, so I could do all of that. Here's a few screenshots of how it looks;

I'm pretty proud of it! It's much like a mix of Valhalla and Standoff - each base has three mancannons that help keep the game moving fast. The middle of the map is full of rocks - a lot like the action in Standoff. I've even placed a Spartan Laser in the middle of the rock field much like in Standoff. Each base has equal amounts of vehicles and weapons. The screenshots don't do it justice - it looks like I haven't done much to the map, but I really have, most of the budget is already gone.

Anyways, thanks for reading through all that, and sorry again if I posted in the wrong place. Hoping to become an active member here. If you thought the map looks interesting, let me know, and I'll get to work on a full thread. Thanks!

Let me put up the guard rails and make sure people don't be rude THIS GUY IS A NEWBIE AT FORGING AND HE IS ASKING FOR HELP DON'T POST A NEGATIVE COMMENT

OK first without knowing the concepts of Forge you seem to understand basic rotation of objects and such, as well as placement. I can see you use simple, grab what seems to work, and shove into place. As for setting up weapons to not fall over, use fixed in the build tools command. If you need instruction type in Halo Forge World on youtube. Bungie kind of gives you an intro into what the objects are capable of doing. As for everything else it just takes time. Try using the coordinates and rotation snap when placing objects its easier to align for most people. If you have trouble slowing down while holding objects click in left analog and hold it down. This should slow your movements. Also check out some forge maps through recommendations in reach. This will give you some ideas and concepts. Good luck

P.S. after looking closely as some of the bases I can see how its set up like Valhalla
Perhaps some closer shots of the bases would get you better marks

Thanks for the quick reply. Haha I hope people don't treat me too harshly, I tried to sound polite and friendly, instead of "plz help i dun no how 2 forge!!11".

I actually made a race track to basically test the limits of forge. I probably spent around 20 hours just toying with what I could make. Got me pretty familiar with how Forge works in Reach. It's such a step up from Halo 3, I love it! So happy I don't have to save+restart the game just to make an object float in the air. I spent around 100+ hours forging in Halo 3 so I'm not all that new. However I've never gone to the internet to look for tips or advice, hence the thread :)

I'll try to check out some videos on Youtube for advice. And I've never tried clicking in the left analog stick so I'll give that a shot. I've spent a long time looking through the forums, mostly at other peoples maps - it's definitely helped. I've downloaded a ton of maps from the forum. I don't like using the maps on "top downloads" because I've been let down by a ton of them. Thanks again.

@ deadbolt - you did everything right in your post. we will be very friendly to people who can put words together into sentences, and post threads that have a purpose. seems like you right now. welcome to forgehub, you will enjoy your stay.
and really avolanty? you over react. one person posts in a way that could possibly be offensive to someone, and you hold a grudge against the whole community. he was actually being helpful, while you were being arragont.

dont use fixed. it is bad for gameplay. for weapons against walls, just place it leaned up against it. put the base pretty close to the wall, and make sure the widest part of the base is facing the wall. it just takes a few tries. but floating weapons will float when you die, and it is annoying as mess.

That is good to know. Will using Phased do the same things as Fixed?

Phased and fixed weapons become unusable and stationary once dropped.

I haven't tried this, but isn't it true that if a weapon placed floating by fixed or phased status, then let go of, but replaced to normal without re-grabbing it that it is than a floating weapon that doesn't cause this issue of locked floating weapons once dropped?

I think I read this elsewhere on forgehub, but haven't tried myself. I guess I could try it out and reply, will do as soon as I can unless someone else already knows for sure.

No, actually, it's completely false. It'll spawn in midair and fall to the ground immediately when a new round or game is started.

If you want an object on the ground but leaning against a wall, facing perfectly flat, then simply...

    1. Set Rotation Snap to 90.
    2. Rotate the object in midair as needed.
    3. LEAVE ITS PHYSICS ON NORMAL.
    4. Use Edit Coordinates to keep nudging it until it's in the air, flush with the wall.
    5. Use Edit Coordinates to slowly lower it to the ground.
Of course, if you haven't been "Edit-Coordinatesing" your walls and structures (to snap all their positions to the nearest tenth of a unit), this might not work as well... The object may end up dragging against a wall and rotating on its own before you set it down.

Or you could create it fixed and then switch it to normal by not holding it and tapping x. I wasn't trying to be arrogant but what ever.

...after which it will fall over if he hasn't positioned it exactly, which is easiest to do using Edit Coordinates in the manner I have described. :p

Makes sense about the normal setting, in an actual game it would just drop wouldn't it. Like I said, I hadn't tried it so didn't know. Thanks for clearing it up.
