UNSC Gibb on Source Of The Heat By: LikeAlikeMike, gibber007, and xPuRpL3CoBrA3x After a long leave of absence, my forging team and I have returned. We have not come back empty-handed. Enter: Source Of The Heat "Use the UNSC Gibb to storm the beach, push into covenant occupied valley, and steal their data core. You have a blank check." -Admiral Mikey Simply put, the UNSC forces attack the entrenched Covenant forces in three phases. If the Covenant hold out on any phase until the timer reaches zero, the UNSC is at a loss for that round. If the UNSC captures the core in phase 3 the Covenant lose the round. Teams switch after every round. There are two rounds in a game. Phase 1 The UNSC's objective is to deliver their bomb to the rock wall on the beach, blowing a hole into Phase 2. The Covenant's objective is to stop the UNSC at all costs until thetimer reaches zero. UNSC loadouts are standard with an assault rifle and magnum and a choice of sprint or jetpack. Covenant loadouts are standard. Evade with Plasma Repeater and Plasma pistol, along with Camo and Needler. UNSC troops spawn on a carrier ship dropped into the water from orbit. There they will find a sniper rifle and a gravity lift to take them to shore, if jetpacking doesn't tickle their fancy. NOTE: Falcons spawn on the carrier in Phase 3 Once the UNSC hit land they immediately find themselves by a small outpost. Perfect for staging an assault on the rock wall straight down the line. Outpost. The Covenant will their objective very simple. Outkill the UNSC and defend the wall! They will make use of the shade turret and needle rifle accessed via grav lift, along with the beach-side plasma cannon to their advantage. If their UNSC completes their objective, it's time to move on to... Phase 2 Things can get a little hectic at this point. Both teams have to regroup as fast as possible to make either a push for the Phase 2 area, to either attack or defend. Above: The Covenant fall back to Phase 2. The Covenant must defend two shield generators for an energy gate blocking the way to Phase 3, and therein the data core. The generators are loacated on the second floors of two connected towers. The UNSC must occupy either generator for 20 seconds in order to advance to Phase 3. Conviniently, a warthog and two mongeese quickly spawn near the cave entrance. Phase 2 in all it's glory. Loadouts have changed again in Phase 2. Spartans no longer have their jetpacks. One class with sprint and another with armor lock are each equipped with a DMR and an assault rifle. Except for the operator class which is conveniently equipped with a shotgun and drop shield. The elites are not short of abilities however; Jetpack with plasma repeater and plasma pistol, evade with plasma rifle and plasma pistol, and drop shield with a needler and plasma pistol. If the UNSC manages to break through the shield it's time to move on to... Phase 3 Make the push. First of all you should know, Phase 3 is massive. It spans the entirety of the Gulch. Perfect for the culmination of this epic struggle. The battle ahead. Loadouts have changed yet again. Take a look at the goodies: The UNSC has access to: Jetpack, assault rifle, magnum Sprint, DMR, Magnum Armor Lock, Shotgun, Magnum Hologram, Grenade launcher, Assault rifle Drop shield, DMR, Assault rifle The Covenant have access to: Jetpack, plasma repeater, plasma pistol Evade, needle rifle, needler Armor lock, concussion rifle, plasma pistol Hologram, energy sword, plasma repeater Drop shield, needle rifle, plasma pistol Be sure to make use of the heavy weapons and vehicles that spawn in phase 3. Some less obvious ones are the falcons on the carrier, and rockets, sniper, and scorpion tank that spawn in the phase 2 area. The UNSC forces must carry the data core from the imposing, round core base and take it to the cliff side extraction zone. I hope you've been well informed. We'll see you on the battlefield. Also, for those who are interested: There is a hidden needler on the map that can only be seen in forge. If you so desire, set out to find it. Why is there a needler? Because it represents everything that is Mike, a callsign if you will. Also during the fight there will be a class name that stands out a tad, if you notice it, well congrats, but will you ever know the reason behind it? Probably not.
Nice write up Mike! I really enjoyed working on this, and I know Mercer did too. The gameplay ended up phenomenal. I enjoyed everything about it and the map itself ; from the colours of the map to the awesome aircraft carrier. I really have to applaud you for setting up the gametype, I know it took alot of work and I really appreciate it. Go team!
Absolutely amazing map, almost feels as if this was a campaign setpiece. Or a movie. Or... well, its epic. If it got any more epic, it would be like dividing by zero, twice. Or winning in the lottery without playing Lotto. Thats how epic it is.
This is truly a map that deserves praise, a lot of Invasion maps spread their focus upon a specific tier, but this map has each tier start high, and still get progressively better. Lots of variety when it comes to play styles are available for this map, whether you're a vehicle kind of guy, or prefer sneaking on foot, or a fly-boy. This map has good gameplay, mixed with even better aesthetics, and was a blast to playtest. I hope to get a game on it in the near future so I can make you a map video.
Yes the map is pretty large. It starts in the middle of the sea close to the island. You then proceed to through the cave and fight in the entire canyon. I should add that in the description, thanks for the comment.
This looks like a sweet invasion map! I wish I could find enough friends to play it with. Definitely a rating between 9 and 10 (out of 10) Please check out my first forge map, Elevacy.
