Awesome thanks! I guess I won't have to worry about changing it unless for some reason people just start complaining lol

    Thanks! Greatly appreciated!

Just another thing that I think really needs to be said. Some sacrifices have to be made for this game to work properly. At least right now and of my knowledge it simply is impossible to have the scoring system be practically instant. As in the time between when the ball goes into the goal and when the ball hits the mine can't be instant. Weapons are able to trigger the mines. In one of the first versions of the map we ran into a problem with weapons triggering the scoring system because a golf club could go into the goal and hit a mine. Changes needed to be made and those changes means the time it takes for the ball to hit the mine is increased. This doesn't necessarily cause a problem, it just means that lets say that a ball goes into the goal with less than 4 or 5 seconds left in the game. The ball may not have time to hit the mine so that means the team won't get a point. I guess that just has to be part of the game, it's just a bit frustrating. I've honestly not had this happen yet but it obvious that it CAN happen.

I have suggested this game to be used in a mini tournament at grifball.com. I will let you know when it will happen so you can join in. One player will need to have a Rooster Teeth account to sign up.

Wow, cool thanks! I'll have to make an account.

Also just to let you know there has been some big changes the scoring system. We haven't released this version yet because we are trying to make sure that this is definitely the last version of this map we need to put out. We've actually got the scoring system to be as fast as I think we could possibly make it and we did it by using a different system that doesn't involve a mine. So far no problems have occurred and we have played a lot of games. No ball has popped out of the goal and nothing else has triggered the scoring system.

However, with this new faster and more reliable system we had to sacrifice some aesthetics. The old scoring system used to be almost completely hidden from view but with this new system the system can be seen pretty easily. You can see the tin cup and the soccer ball but I really think this is a necessary sacrifice. I feel that having a faster and completely reliable scoring system is much more important than some better visuals because better game play comes before everything.

When I put the new version in my file share I will let you know! Also I should really update the pictures in this thread. I saw that one person on the grifball website mention the kill ball. That thing is long gone!

    UPDATE:
I know I've said this before but I think I really mean it this time....The final version of our 4v4 Smashball map is now live. I have updated the download link in the original post

Love this game. I always have a blast playing it and whoever made the logo mad props, looks great!

You should make a silver account for all smashball fans to add. That way we could look at his online friends to get some games going when you aren't online.
More Smashball = More Awesome. haha

The Nard Dawg(Smashball co-creator and basically the entire forger of our next Smashball map) created the logo. He is also in the process of creating a Smashball "trailer". We are going through game play video in the theater finding some cool highlights to put in the video.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I took EternityEchoes advice and made a silver account for smashball fans to add.

    The gamertag is: Smashball GTs
If you are a fan of Smashball and would like to play more games please send a friend request to that gamertag. This will be a community gamertag where people can find other Smashball fans to play with. This is how it works: When you have the gamertag on your friends list, view the friends by selecting "view friends" in the profile of the gamertag. There you will see the list of all players to invite to games if you would like to play Smashball!

Hopefully this gamertag will be useful!

I would suggest you change the name, although it might already be too late. There's a source mod that goes by the name "Smashball" which has a substantial community.

With that being said, this looks to be enjoyable. I made a game in Halo 3 with the name Smashball (AKA Nashball, Paul-o-ball, and then finally Apollo Ball) that had the same mechanics as this, sans the stockpile gametype of course. That was good fun, and I expect this to play just as well if not better based on the pictures. Not to mention your map is much more quality in terms of forging.

    Yo ABL.

Big fan of the map as you know. Can't wait for the new larger version. Check out the post for Halo Stadium

    http://www.forgehub.com/forum/reach-casual-maps/112092-halo-football-soccer-stadium.html

You could possibly use it as a template for the larger map. Also the automatic ball retrival system is pretty cool too. If you could figure a way to incorporate it into your map it could eliminate having to restart rounds between points.

Looking forward to the new map.

I have only played 1 v 1 and it is even fun like that! I can hardly ever get a big custom game crowd and love to see games that can play with four or less people. Awesome work and great game idea.
I made my own map with a different (I believe) scoring system and ball return system. Come check it out sometime if you would like. GT:JDB95
    Great Job!

Unless big problems happen...I'm pretty sure we have out 8v8 map done. It was pretty easy to make once we have the scoring system perfected. We've done some testing and so far so good. However I do admit that Smashball seems a bit more fun with 4v4. 8v8 gets really crazy but is still fun! I prefer the smaller game. Hopefully we can get the bigger map posted soon.

Also it was brought to my attention that the pictures in my first post are very outdated...I took some brand new pictures and added a new picture of the final scoring system and an explanation of how it works

Yeah...I made my own version of this game type , as well as a couple cool corresponding maps that use this stockpile trick, after that Fifa Soccer guy did his...and I gotta say, I don't think it's stealing.

    It's a cool idea,but hardly revolutionary.

Graybes,I'll dl this, and someday I'll get around to publishing my similar map "Hobo Ball Arena"...and you can play Smashball on it,and I'll play Hobo Ball on yours!

Epic job man. Me and my nephews have a lot of fun with this. We actually added weapons and it added a whole new element of strategy as far as offense/defense goes. I only modified the starting weapon option, but loadouts on start/spawn would be the ideal route so players and teams can choose to go offensive or defensive.

A couple people joined the game and we found snipers and rockets to be the coolest secondary. Also added some mines. Hate hitting them, but love when you hit them.

    PROPS!

    The Smashdome

    Hey Graybes.

Have been meaning to post this with full credit to you and Wheels36 of course. I took Wheels Revball court and your smashball gametype and made a big team smashball court. We have been playing it for weeks to rave reviews. Ideal team size is 5-6 players so like 12 players total max.

I made the goals bigger and took out the center dividing line the ball kept skipping on it. I also modified your gametype to play to 5 points in one round due to Wheels36 ball return mechanism. The jump ball in the center after a score is total mayhem.

I also added 1 mancannon in each corner. Great for getting back in the action quick and also you can bounce the ball off it, and send it back to the center of the court.

Having a larger court enables a new level of strategy. Usually 1 player hangs back as the goalie and primary passer. A quick pass to a player on the weak side will give you a shot at the goal with just the opposing goalie to beat.
Generally theres one player who will play the role of enforcer, (goes around just generally trying to pummel everyone, and the rest play mid-field.

I placed the team respawns in mid air and back towards thier respective goals this helps with spawn camping also I added a couple of health packs on the back wall of either side.

It's become popular enough that we usually get 10-12 players together every week Wednesday night to play. We have had dozens of really competitive matches.

Again amazing game Graybes let me know if you want to join us for the next match.

Why are you doing this? A cheap rip off? I stole someones game type? Stop spreading lies.

First off, a lot of games with balls are going to show up. So anyone who makes a game that involves scoring a goal with a ball is going to be copying off of that guy's Soccer Field?

Pretty Much. You forgot a couple things that are the same though. A flat surface and it is rectangualar. Exactly the same as yours..... I'm not trying to be mean, I am telling you that this is a soccer field with a sloped outer lip. I was reading the intro and description and I was excited but it is SOCCER. There's no way around it, even if the scoring system is different. (BTW, is clever)

Awesome concept, reminds me of Revball. Quick question: How did you make the stockpile scoring system work immediately?
