This is gonna be sweet. I'd say that the map I've been working on for a couple weeks now has a really good shot at the CTF category... *crosses fingers*

Also, just imagine all of the crap maps they receive under the symmetrical category... it's all going to be one big gray indistinguishable blob.

Amen on the symmetrical map category being tough. I am going into Team Slayer and Invasion with my 2 "finished" maps. I might make a BTB as well. We got a month and a half afterall.

    Imma enter :D

    • Game-type Support
      • Does the map function for the game-type(s) as necessary? Are all required objects and systems in place to successfully play a game?
      • AKA PUT OBJECTIVES IN AREAS WHICH ARE NOT ****ING RETARDED!
    • Fun-Factor
      • Is the map fun to play on? Is the spaces fun to navigate through? Do the weapons, spawn and layout promote a positive game experience? Is the map balanced and fair for the given game-type?
      • DO NOT MAKE AN UPER DUPER FUPER MLG MAP!
    • Performance
      • Does the map suffer from any negative visual or performance issues?
      • & FGS, REMOVE ANY Z-CLIPPING AND DO NOT JUST RANDOMLY BUILD IN THE AIR.
    • Originality / Creativity

    EDIT:

Care to 'splain anyone? Would I be aloud to enter this competition at the age of 16 in the UK, with or without consent of my parents?

This is not meant to sound rude, but ya B3n that's why they put resident of the united states. They don't want to have to deal with legallities outside of the US. So that's a no go on the UK forgers etc.

Sorry, B3NW, that almost got my hopes up too. It does says US residents only, the longer bit after that doesn't allow for other countries, probably just covering their backs for people who are legal residents of the US but are "on holiday" or something.

Besides, that Reach Xbox may not even work outside the US. Some games claim to be "region free" but you're bound to run in to problems like not being able to use UK codes (like for gold subscriptions and MS Points) on a US console.
    --

Judging probably be simplified by computers though. First of all they can ignore any maps which aren't emailed correctly. Then they can do a quick check through each gametype for compatibility errors. Then probably a few other automatic checks which they can do because they are Bungie, you have no rights, play nice. So that narrows down the ones they actually need to look at quite considerably!

You know there are almost certainly legal reasons Bungie didn't include overseas players? It's not like they're just prejudiced or something. Crying to them about how butthurt you are isn't going to help.

Tell me the legal reasons? I bet they just don't want to pay shipping..
Also yes it will, if enough people complain, they will change it.

Also, don't call me butthurt, you would be pissed if you couldn't enter... Don't be all "I'm American, so this doesn't affect me, so I don't care".

Ok. We have Bungie here people. They have alot of money and shipping up to 7 360's to the UK is not a big expense for them so we can rule that totally out as the reason.

Bungie also is a very efficient company and I am sure that they could still tackle the number of maps submitted if they added Canada, UK, etc. Their workload would potentially triple. (remember that forgers are actually a minority of the players of Halo Reach so there could actually be more forgers in UK than USA..who knows.)

My point is this is that there must be SOMETHING important in their way that forces them to alienate customers from this contest. I am surprised you think that Bungie would anger their customers just because of nationalities. Get a grip.

It was a joke if you didn't realize..

That is why they are making forgers submit the maps in an awkward way and even then they will pick maps by how they look. I would put money on that.

I didn't say there wasn't, but there are work-arounds and practically any comp I have ever seen which is based in the US, allows residents of US and Europe to enter. Also, I haven't said they are trying to anger us because of our nationalities, you just assumed that, & you assumed wrong.

My point is, if Bungie put as much effort in to not angering their community, rather than writing a ****ing long as post, only to at the end find out you are not eligible, I wouldn't be butthurt and neither would every UK forger that wants to enter this.

    You called yourself butthurt...

As for the legal restrictions, I have no idea. Maybe they don't have a license to operate a contest in the UK. Maybe the UK has different laws governing such contests. I don't know, but I know that Bungie isn't so petty that they'd exclude thousands of their fans from a contest over a few bucks in shipping. And yeah, I would be irritated if I couldn't enter, but it's annoying to see you playing the victim over it.

There is a reason behind it, even if it's that a country restriction simply makes it easier to manage entries. Nothing worth getting angry over, although an explanation to satisfy my curiosity over the decision wouldn't hurt.

They didn't have to have a contest in the first place. Be disappointed, but don't have a wild sense of betrayal.

Oh, just in case everyone forgot, there is another country outside America *besides* the UK.

Where have you been living all your life, under a rock? Almost ALL contests limit participation to their respective countries, and it's ALWAYS about legalities and politics. Some states in the US will even be excluded for some contests/sweepstakes because it's considered gambling and that state makes gambling illegal. This isn't new, and this isn't a personal attack against your country, so don't take it personal. And no, it's not because Bungie is too cheap to mail winners from other countries lol.

And no, they will not change their minds if enough people complain. They've probably been planning this contest for weeks now, and in that time they most likely had to hire lawyers and whatnot, to go over the rules and make sure everything is legal in terms of politics. There's more to this than just, "hey, make some maps and we'll give you stuff".

I don't see what I missed answering your question in your post. You can always have someone you really trust submit it to bungie for you. It just won't be your name on it but you'll know and get the prize if your friend sends it to you. =/

I can call myself butthurt if I wish.
    & The shipping was a joke ¬.¬

I hope it is annoying, it is annoying being a "victim".

:surprise: There is? Because I'm sure I said they could have at least include the european countries.
Also, Australia probably banned Reach :p

Uhh, no.. No they don't? Yeah sure, TV based competitions and other forms of media (other than internet) have locks on the countries that can participate. Have you been living under a rock? Because practically every competition I see on the internet includes the major geographical landmarks. I mean, they didn't even include Canada.. ¬.¬

    Again, shipping cost = joke.

I'm sure they did plan the competition, maybe they did hire a lawyer, but we won't know until Bungie says something and explains why.

You answered in a way which any person which skimmed the post would have said. You didn't even comment or take into consideration the part which I highlighted in my reply to you.

Do research on web-based contests crossing regions for participation, their laws and legal razzmitazz, write a thesis on it and start an anti-US-Only contest society if it bugs you so much. Otherwise, get back to making forge maps for yourself and friends.

They never said UK maps wont get into matchmaking by other means. Keep making your best and work hard to get noticed and you have as much chance as anyone. Getting into MM is more important than a winning a system anyways.
