    Hi all,

This is my first time posting on this forum and have a question about creating a gametype. I'm not sure if this is the best place to post it as it isn't technically a "Forge" question, but since it is custom content I figured it would be acceptable. If this is the wrong place feel free to move the thread.

In any case, I am looking to create a gametype out of a game my friends and I came up with and I'm running into problems with the constraints Reach imposes on the game options. Basically, the gametype I want to make is regular Slayer, except one player is invulnerable, has infinite ammo, and is armed with a gravity hammer. The idea of this gametype is to be a way for a really crappy player (like a girlfriend or little kid brother) to play with more skilled players and still have fun. The girlfriend/little kid is the invulnerable player, and everyone else plays Slayer amongst themselves, except with an invincible hammer-wielder running around wreaking havoc and generally disrupting the regular flow of the game.

My friends and I played this with informal rules (i.e., "nobody shoot the girl in pink") and it was a lot of fun. But now I want to make it into a gametype, and I can't figure out a way to make one player invulnerable while still having Slayer rules. There are gametypes where one player receives special privileges, such as Oddball or Juggernaut, but those gametypes don't allow you to receive points from kills--you can only get points from doing the objective. This is really strange to me since I remember in Halo 3 it was entirely possible to make, say, an Oddball variant where the ball didn't actually give you any points, and you only scored by getting kills. I also looked to see if I could give these special powers using a custom powerup or loadout, but custom powerups can't be set to infinite duration, and loadouts only allow you to change the weapons the player carries, not the player's properties.

So my question is, is there some way to set up a Slayer gametype where one player has special powers? I'm hoping there might be some setting I overlooked.

I don't think this is possible without makign a specific loadout for that player and then making an "honor rule" that no one is allowed to pick that loadout

The closest that I think you can get is that you make a loadout with jetpack equipped, and you put the custom power-up in a towering platform so that only the girlfriend/ little brother can reach. I have the same problem in this gametype that I made for my friends and I. But i just made it so we have easy access to the custom power-up, and the others spawn far away.

If you are playing with 8 or less people you could spread custom power ups across the map use team slayer and set the power up to cater to his color. Then it could be like a mini game for him to grab the yellow balls when he sees them. You would want to set the run time minimum to max so they are always there though because others can still pick it up it just has no effect. Aside from that I cant think of anything else.

Can you make it to where betrayals count as points? If so, the Juggernaut might work.

Aiming at friendlies tends to be hard to do.

Unfortunately this doesn't work as you can't change player properties in loadouts, only weapons and equipment. This is actually what we did after we gave up on making the gametype, but it's annoying since whenever the special player ran out of charge on her hammer we had to wait until she found a cliff to jump off so she could get a fully-charged one.

This would be a good idea, but remember that the special player is going to be crappy at the game, they probably won't have the coordination to jetpack well. :p Also I'd prefer for the special player to have sprint so s/he can catch up to fleeing players.

This seems like the best idea so far. When I get the chance I'll pepper the maps with some custom powerups and see how it works.

Sadly, Juggernaut doesn't allow that. Plus Juggernaut also gives everyone a waypoint, so it's not that good for what will basically be Slayer.

also if you do as I said I'd recommend a color switch to white so they can tell when they switch back they have lost invulnerability.

you could try something of the opposite.. having leader traits as that person.. and all kills count towards negative.. but only problem would be the beginning of the match then, cause everyone is a "leader" cause they're all tied.

Well then I'm stumped my good sir. I'll try and get back to you on that one. Is it going to be a team game or FFA?
