Didn't they give us more on Sandbox? I can understand them not wanting us to make the map look like a Christmas display, but I still expected them to give us 4-8 lights to use.
yeah, you can change the color, but it hardly makes a difference on most of the items. Its pretty hard to distinguish between a blue piece and a red piece quickly in most cases
Let me google that for you If you're too lazy to even click that; it's because lots of lights = laggy games.
Its because the lights are dynamic lights. Dynamic lights take up quite a bit of rendering so bungie has capped it at two so the xbox can easily handle it and keep a peak framerate.
A better question is: Why does Bungie give us 2 F-ing lights to use if using either of them causes significant frame lag? I'd be happier with 0 or 1 and no frame rate issues.
Then don't put lights in your map. We should all have a choice on whether or not we want lights. Your opinion shouldn't influence Bungie in any way.
You know why bungie did this? They did it simply to annoy you! They were thinking; "Gosh darnit, our game is too perfect. We need something to give to Mongorian Panda just so that he can complain about it... I know! Lets only give him two lights! That'll piss him off!"
Just today I deleted them from Genome's next version and I do not plan to include them in future maps. Just not worth it.
I don't really have any problems with FW other than the lights. I just don't get why Sandbox could handle 4 and ForgeWorld couldn't.
halo 3's engine managed 4 lights and it didnt effect the frame rate why cant the brands new reach engine handle 4?
Are you kidding? They ****ed with the frame rate so bad that they had to be automatically disabled in splitscreen, and thats on a map with nothing draining like a waterfall or water itself. Forgeworld is big enough already that it would crash Halo 3's multiplayer servers if it was a canvas. Reaches engine is about H3's times fifteen, and so they made use of that extra to update graphics, add effects, and make everything huge. And guess what? It still runs way faster and more effecient. So, Halo: 3s couldnt handle four lights at all, they would cause insane lag in a larger game. And Reach has things other than lights that are way cooler, honestly. So i'm fine with the trade off.
