first off, i apologize if this has already been discussed/answered on this forum. i searched around a bit, but didn't have any luck anyway, team race was always one of the mainstays of my friends' halo 1 LANs. 2 teams, 5 laps, first team to have all its members finish all 5 laps wins. but whenever i try to set up a custom gametype in Reach, the option to enable teams in race is always grey'd out and un-changeable. is there any way to make a team version of race?
you might have to set it up as KOTH, they really screwed up the gametype options in this game. so if you did it the same way that race did in H3, than it would work. you just wouldnt have checkpoints anymore.
Have you downloaded Rocket Race? That has teams locked on, you may be able to do something with that. I'll have a look now. Edit: OK, maybe not. They have updated the maps which support Rocket Race with Team starting points, rather than just neutral ones, maybe you could try adding more team specific starting points, or maybe see what happens if you have more than 2 people on a team.
thanks for the suggestion. i looked at rocket race, but even it doesn't allow for the same kinds of options you could have in Halo 1's race. rocket race forces everyone to be on vehicles at all times and teleports you back to your vehicle if you are away too long.
As I believe that they should. It's a race map, not have one person race while the other tries to kill the others. If you're gonna do that... do that from the vehicles.
Oh I totally agree, though I will say that it's not perfect as solutions go . Bungie really shouldn't use default maps for Race variants.
i have to disagree with you there. we had a race variant in halo 1 that we used for LANs all the time which was great. being that everyone didn't automatically have a vehicle, it meant people had to fight over the warthogs if they wanted one. since scoring was set to minimum, your team didn't win until all your members completed all of the laps. this meant that if someone on your team finished early, their sole purpose became either trying to help teammates finish, or stopping the other team from finishing. it still plays like individual racing, it just has team scoring. it's just a shame that there's something you could do with the options on an older halo game that you can't do in the new halo game. anyway, i PMed one of the bungie employees about it. he seemed to like the gametype i was going for, but said they left out team scoring intentionally and had no plans to change it.
