Out of all my days playing Reach I have noticed one thing that really annoys me...... The leveling.... and I will tell you why...... As of now I have 25% commendation progress, which may seem pretty good, but...... I am only a warrent officer grade 3. Most of my friends only have from 9% to 15% and they are in the warrent officer rank. Here are my commendations: Campaign: 2 maxed out onyx, 1 gold, 4 silver, 4 bronze, and 3 iron Firefight: 3 silver, 2 bronze, and 2 iron Matchmaking: 6 iron, but that is because i havent played matchmaking that much but when i do I get at least 15 kills a mach Now here is what annoys me..... My friend, who only had 33% commendation progress was a Major grade 2 and apperently it was all because he had a few bronze and a silver in matchmaking. Thats BULL!!!!!! Apperently Bungie thinks that matchmaking is way more important than the rest of the game because this is insane. Has this happened to any of you???? Please feel free to respond with your own complaints about ranking or respond by explaining to me how all this works.....
There are a lot of factors at play here. First, Commendations give diminishing returns as you progress. I believe the credit bonuses for achieving a new tier (Silver, Gold, Onyx) increase, but eventually you stop getting bonus credits for each kill that counts towards that commendation. Your commendation percentage includes all aspects of Halo: Reach. If you neglect matchmaking, that's going to hurt your percentage. Seriously, you can't expect a few hours with the target locator to do all your work for you. Play matchmaking and you will get significantly more credits for your time because your commendations there are weak In addition, commendations aren't the only way to earn credits and rank up. If you give me his gamertag, I could probably tell you why he is a Major.
A few hours? This kid used the Target Locator over 750 times in campaign. Not only did he waste all of his commendations on getting nothing in return, but he lacks multikills and sprees in other game types... which drastically help boost the cR.
Matchmaking is the best place for credits. Sorry bro, but I think it's a global conspiracy to make you interact with other people, at least on some superficial level.
You know what you should do? You should stop stop being friends with that kid that has a higher rank than you. He's probably a jerk anyway. And then you should stress out about Commendations some more. And then, you definitely need to make a thread on a game forum and complain about how matchmaking gives more credits than Campaign. But one thing you don't want to do is enjoy yourself doing something that is supposed to be fun.
Shroomz: I dont want to hear you complain about the target locator because i can guarentee that almost everyone who has reach has used that trick.... even my friend who in only 2 weeks got to the highest rank FlamingArmadillo: I do like 2-3 challanges a day plus the weekly challenge whenever i can.... heck I completed the first weekly challange: complete 9 levels of reach campaign on heroic or harder: in one day and i even did it on legendary
Don't go complaining about what I have and haven't used. I am a Warrent Officer rank 1 and have not done the TL trick and have done far more Forge than MM. The secret? Challanges and try not to suck. It is so fast gaining Credits. I got like half my Firefight Coms doing MM and getting all the achievements. Infact, later today after school I'm gonna hop on and do 50 FF games if you want to join me. It will be the first weekly I've finished.
I personally wasn't complaining about the target locator. Bungie has basically said "its cool, bro." He was pointing out that was basically all you did, and that your commendations elsewhere suffered for it. Which they clearly did. 2-3 challenges a day really isn't going to get you up there that fast, and I suspect you generally end up getting the cheaper, easier ones done first. The speed and difficulty with which you complete challenges is irrelevant, it is a flat credit boost. I will openly acknowledge that I farm credits, through the Target Locator, Gruntpocalypse, and yes, even Flawless Cowboy. However, I firmly believe that had I not, I would still be at least a Major Grade 1. Why? Because I have only missed, I believe, three daily challenges. I have made it my goal to do every challenge, every day. I completed this week's on the second day it was available. In addition, I do more than just credit farm. I farm one method to a point, then play some matchmaking. I even forge a significant amount, but you don't hear me whining about getting 80 credits for two hours of work. I said this in another complaint thread. Its called a player investment system. Put enough time in, and you will get up there. The greater your patience and investment, the greater your reward. I'll think of you when I rank up today, and shed a tear that Bungie implemented a terrible rank system that let me hit Lt. Colonel while you are floundering about despite wasting hours on Sword Base.
I'm not complaining about you using the target locator method. I myself used the method and it only took me about 35 times to get Splash Damage to Onyx. You did it over 750 times! By the time you did it 100 times, you were doing nothing but dry humping the Commendation for no bonuses. At the same time you wasted kills on Spec Ops, Leadership Element, Super Soldier, and Cannon Fodder. My point was, it was a stupid question to ask when all you had to do was look at your Medals and Commendations to see why you're not getting anything. If you insist on playing Campaign some more, look at the Commendations that you didn't max out and do those. This thread is just as stupid as those created by kids that reset their challenges and got their accounts reset. The challenges are "daily" and "weekly". If they were meant to get the cR bonus every game, they'd be called "gamely challenges". It's just a matter of common sense. You know what you did and why it's happened, you're just refusing to accept the answer. Don't blame Bungie because you got "wide-eyed" at all those cR and abused the hell out of it... and now can't get any cR because of it.
in all honesty commendations and challenges dont get you that much credits. a silver commendation in MM gets you like 1000. Your friend isnt a major because he got some MM commendations, hes a major because he actually plays the ****ing game instead of just trying to get commendations. you are only a warrant officer because you have spent your time just trying to get commendations for the credits instead of actually playing the game.
