Flies on The Wall Created by patrickcanttype Ever wanted to be a fly on the wall? Now's you're chance! Although you might find out it's not everything you thought it would be... So what's the game about? In this game, one zombie, or as we call him, the Flyswatter, will fire rockets, missiles, and globs of plasma at those annoying bugs ruining his picnic. Ok, so he doesn't actually have a picnic, but they're still annoying him. I still don't completely understand. Not to worry, I brought pictures! The wall The flies The Flyswatter Smack! Wait whats in it for the flies? Do they just fly around and try not to die or can they actually go somewhere and get points? Anyways the forging is basic, but the gameplay looks fun. It's a very original idea, and is pretty epic.
Its a fun gametype, but gets old fast. Theres really nothing in it for the flies. I suggest giving them some sort of Objective?...
You both make a very good point...basically, the idea is that if the flies don't die, they win. They get 10 points for surviving the round.
Hooray you finally posted this, this deserves a good bump. This map is extremely fun and (This is seriously true) this is the best minigame for Halo Reach right now. Seriously, all the others are just un-original and not even fun. When I was playing this map with you, I had the time of my life. Im not in any of the pictures
I had the same problem with the gametype, I made a map just like this on my first week of reach. It's still unfinished, but it's too bad you can't split up weapons between teams in a regular one bomb or flag.
I have to question some people saying "flies have nothing to do." and wonder if they've played the game. If you play it, you know that death is a great motivator.
Can't you set it up so that your stats are changed in a Haven? If so you could add one at the top and allow whoever gets there first to kill the zombie.
This is not supposed to be a "Race to the top" map. It's a "dodge the rockets that are being fired at you" map. I don't know if you (or anyone else saying the flies having nothing to do) have played the game, but it's a lot more fun than one might think.
Safe Haven could work if you make the "flies" invulnerable for a few seconds in that safe haven. It would give the flies an area to move towards... kinda like a pile of dung.
After reading some of the posts on this thread, I tried that. I added a safe haven to every platform and let them spawn randomly. It completely ruined gameplay. Plus, if you were in a safe haven and a rocket hit you, it would push you out of the safe haven, and then you would most likely die from the other rockets. But thanks for the comment.
I wouldn't necessarily put them on every platform, but maybe 4-5 safe havens on opposite ends of the play area. If I recall, you can also change the player's traits in the safe haven and give them drop shields or armor lock instead of jetpacks, which should revert back to jetpacks when the safe haven changes.
Mate, the idea is fine as it is. To everyone else, the flies have an objective. To survive. That counts as an objective. It's like Coin Slot on Pennyless. I like the idea, and it is well executed. Congrats on a good map.
Could you not have one custom power up for the zombie..? which increases the damage done for the zombie and everyone else do no damage? Also this is really a fun map I don't really care about the scoring part this was pure fun, I played this for a decent bit with my friends this weekend, Ive just been doing customs lately XD
You could reverse it, and make damage dealt 0, and have the custom powerup increase damage for the flyswatter.
I agree, it looks fun but could get old. You could create it as a version of Safe Havens, and possibly make it so the Flies gain points for reaching the havens? Or they could be invincible in the havens, or idk. They need an objective.
I must repeat my insistence that this does not require an objective. Take a look at Coin Slot on Pennyless, a featured map from Halo 3. It consisted of players armed with needlers knocking other players down to death. The player's aim was merely to survive. The two ideas have similarities and neither needs an objective.
Thanks noklu, and to everyone else, I tried this with objectives (safe havens, hills, ect) and it all just made gameplay not fun. This is truly best with no objective other than survival.
How about making so that only in safe haven your shield recharges? It would give objective, but it would be about surviving.
