By GunnerGrunt Background Vanilla was designed the week that the Forge World Vidoc was released. I really took my time on the layout with this because, well, I had lots of time to think it out before I could get into Forge. It was a special design because, it was created with no knowledge of Forge World's object pallet or limitations. That's the reason the design is so solid. Of course, most of the aesthetic features of the map were added once I had a good knowledge of the objects. The main aesthetic is obviously the two trees in the center of the map. That was the idea that sparked the entire design in the first place. Once I got into Forge, it was simply a matter of finding the right pair of trees and sticking to my design. In the end, it came out about 90% true to design. Original Design and Concept: Map Description Vanilla is a medium-sized competitive map compatible with all gametypes but invasion and race. It supports 2-6 players comfortably, and plays well in team oriented games. I recommend 3v3 Team Slayer, but all of the gametypes are enjoyable and play well. Gameplay varies per gametype. While Slayer games will have a focus on top level combat, objective games usually use the mid and lower levels. This enclosed map features a pair of indoor trees in the center of the map. The map consists of 3 main levels, although the red and blue base rooms are located between levels. There are mancannons on each end of the map to access the upper levels. Weapon list: Sniper Plasma Launcher Sword 2 DMRs 2 Needle Rifles 2 Plasma Repeaters 1 Plasma rifle 1 Pistol 1 Needler 4 Plasma Grenades 4 Health Packs A big thanks to my testers. I considered all suggestions and made many changes because of them. Rifte Gifle - I added hard kill zone in water Steve 11th - I extended the second level platform above mancannons Vincent Torre - I adjusted the blue base objects for easier access Most testers - I added more cover on the mid level Grunt Trooper - I added grav lifts by the mancannon to access the mid level more easily Wolf - I added another health pack and made the other easier to find *VM me if I failed to mention your suggestion Pictures! note: outer grav lifts take you to mid-level while the mancannon takes you to the top YouTube - Vanilla - Gameplay Download Vanilla Download Vanilla without central light orb (slightly improved frame-rate)
DUDE THIS MAP IS AMAZING!!! The second I saw your name at the top of the post I knew I was gonna keep this map forever. I love it, the trees are really cool and the aesthetics are amazing. Also that one light is freakin weird but epic. Also the map is incredibly smooth and aesthetically beautiful at every turn. But one thing I think is you should add a shotgun somewhere in there. Practically everything else is there, you have all the details and little stuff that make a map good. DLing now, testing tomorrow. Also the name is kind of random lol.
This looks like a beautiful map, what i would give to have your testing team =D I'll be sure to download this one and use it frequently!
This should be in matchmaking, also I still can't figure out how you made that light. It's amazing. No but really this should be in matchmaking. Also I think you should add a wall behind the three lifts, or at least a railing. Are you gonna make a conquest map next? For some reason this map reminds me of Construct, did you have that mind in mind when building this? At least a little?
haha I'll let you keep guessing on that light =P And about those lifts, it isn't very easy to fall off. You'll see why there isn't a wall there though. I didn't take a screenshot of what is below the mancannon for a reason. Glad you like the map though! It would be awesome if I could get this in matchmaking. I feel that the gameplay is matchmaking worthy I have a Conquest map in the making. And its quite interesting. Coming from Dulden! ^.^
Amazing map, and amazing attention to detail. If I were to have one complaint however, I'd have to say its the clipping of the tree branches/grass/foliage into solid objects. That's one attention to detail I always pay.

O_O ... Oh my gawd... This should be in matchmaking. It's such a beautiful map and plays wonderfully! I, sir, salute you. Your forging and drawing skills are far superior to my own. Can't wait to see what else you cook up. EDIT: Dude, you really should include a thumbnail so hopefully more people click on this thread. This map really is awesome sauce.
this definately should be in matchmaking. the trees make this 50 0/0 better looking and they really are what makes this map different from all those other rather bland slayer maps. oh and if you could help me forge my new map that would be a great help. firedrone8
This map is very unique, the trees make it so. I'm fed up of playing on all those bland metal looking silver maps, your lighting and nature centre piece is brilliant. Downloading.
Easily the best FW map I've played, Vanilla is a delight to look at, and even more of a delight to play. The lovely central structure fits in seamlessly with the rest of the map, which is unique and just gorgeous.

Wow, a pretty nice concept. I can deffinately see the similairites between your designs and the end result. Everythings so smooth, well done. The only thing i could really nitpick is that one of the trees goes into the walkway very slightly, but thats a minor aesthetic. well done.
I waited until I had downloaded and played this map before commenting so I could say more than "it looks awesome" but I'm struggling to think of other things to say! It took me a while to figure out where you'd used some of those pieces (like the walkways, I knew they were there I just could see them until I got rid of them!). And I like how you've got the sound of the waterfall but its not deafeningly close!
This map is extremely impressive! It totally inspires me. I hope to take some notes from your design, without being a copycat hopefully. But hey, they say that mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery. The trees add a ton of visual attractiveness to this map, but your structuring and the flow of your design are not to be ignored! Truly professional work.
Dude seriously this is good.. *raising my imaginary hat to you* I would really wana see this in matchmaking.. and it was very clever and unique move to use those trees. This map is awesome!! A friend of mine told me about this map, and i checked the vid and the screens and i have to say this is the best map on FH! Please tell me where you get the inspiration for a map like this!
Wow how did i miss this. Epic i might add. But also FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU the same idea of the trees in an indoor small area like this but seeing as im lazy i never really did anything about it.
I haven't downloaded it yet to check for myself, but it looks like the light is made of sender nodes set to inactive channels. Am I correct?
