I just DLed GIMP, and have NO idea how to do anything. So, what should I try to start out with? I'm mostly aiming at making sigs for myself and other people. I went under the Xtns thing, and it had some pretty cool logos and buttons underneath it. Otherwise, I don't know how to do anything whatsoever.

I tried to go to the tutorials (even the beginner ones) on the site itself, and I don't understand what they are even saying.

Any help from a GIMP pro would be greatly appreciated.

Mostly the layers idea, which I have used before (I have experience in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop..and several other apps), but it just doesn't make sense.

Do you know how to add a thin border (or a tut for it)? The default filter to add one is too thick.

I tinkered with it, and here's what I did from a blank canvas. I started out with just a simple circle (I realize that the glows across the image is a simple applying of a filter...but it looked cool so I kept it:p)

Kind of looks like an image of the earth with the sun behind it, doesn't it?

edit: Just noticed that the rounded edges leave little unattractive corners...how do I rid the image of those?

edit2: How do I DL and get custom brushes onto gimp? I looked for how to do so but it gave me windows ones only

    Border tutorial
You can also use the small pixel brush and brush the border with the image enlarged to see it better.Thats how some people put 2 borders on the top and bottom of their sigs.Maybe your rounded edges dont look correct because you didnt save it as a .png?To put new brushes into Gimp you have to download the .gbr brushes to a folder somewhere on your Mac.On Gimp go to file, preferences, folders, brushes and browse to your folder and add it there.

    Thanks fiery!

I'm trying to get some nice brushes onto GIMP (with my mac), and its not working, even though I followed a tut on youtube.

    Help?

    edit: I found out how!

Save your unfinished work as a .xcf Gimp file so you can easily continue working on it again. If you need more fonts go to Dafont.com.
