    Invasion on Helms Deep

This is my third Halo Reach forged map - It's a remake of the well known Helms Deep, from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I could have simply made this as an aesthetic map, but I wanted it to be playable. I've designed this map as an Invasion map, which requires my custom gametype in order to play.
Please Note; This map is not an exact remake, some sections have been changed to make the map better when played.

'LotRs Invasion' is just like normal invasion, but with my own custom phases to make the experience close to the film as possible.

Phase 1 - The bomb must be delivered to the deeping wall (The long curved one), and this will blow up the gate, just like in the film.

Phase 2 - You must then progress upto the deeping wall and capture it, whilst defending against spartans.

Phase 3 - Now you must move upto the top of the castle and capture it, taking control is key.

Blue Team (Elites) spawn at the far end of Blood Gulch, with a small base (Incase of spawn killing) and they have a bunch of vehicles, which change depending on the phase. Red team does not spawn in the castle at first phase, this would create slow, un-balanced gameplay, so instead they spawn just outside of the bomb plant, with a rocket and a hog. Obviously as the phases progress each team gets more spawn locations so they can spawn closer to the objective.

    Nice

I must admit I'm tired of seeing everyone trying to make a Helms Deep map. It's way overdone, IMO.

That being said, this map looks a lot better than any of the others I've seen. The pictures are unimpressive but the video displays what definitely looks like some exciting game play.

I'm not a fan of the Warthogs. I don't think they really "go" with the map, which was based off a fictional infantry battle.

However, the bomb to blow a hole in the entrance is perfect. This is perhaps the most accurate recreation of Helms Deep I've seen, and it seems a heckuva lot more playable than the others.

    8/10.

    This brings back memories...

Haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I'll just say this looks super fun. I don't suppose you've thought of a way to make the wall's destruction more impressive? From an aesthetic standpoint, I reckon it would be cooler if the entire thing went up in the sky. Crates, fusion coils perhaps?

Ah hey Porkstein, I'm surprised you havn't whipped up a Helms Deep yet, yours was by far the best back in Halo 3. In fact, I believe that's how we met, right?

About the wall, it actually creates a large explosion, but unfortuanetly you can't see it in the video possibly due to lag. Due to the small amount of movable objects in ForgeWorld (Damn), I don't believe that would be possible, well, atleast I couldn't do it. =]

Update; I've added 2 new videos to the original post, one is a flythrough, and the other is a 1st-person 8v8 gamplay video of me attacking.

I completely agree about all the Helms Deep remakes around, however, all the ones I played were....hmmm........terrible if I'm honest. In the File Browser one of the most recommended maps was a Helms Deep...it was basically just a straight wall. So I thought I'd have ago and actually make an enjoyable playable map that people will have fun on.

About the pictures, unfortuanetly I ran out of useful pieces about half way through, and so I had to use what I could find, so the appearence isn't all that clean or amazing, but like I said in OP I focused more on making the gameplay better.

Obviously warthogs, mmongooses, falcons, rockets, snipers, plasma swords and the lot aren't in the film. lol, but remember I wanted stuff to be balanced, people on foot against people on foot + a large base equals a big, big no no. I understand where you're coming from, I would have loved to make it as close to the films as possible, but it's just not possible as this is a Halo game, sadly.

The gate was actually my brothers idea, I never had an entrance there at all, then I showed him the map and he said "You should place a gate there, like in the film.". I was excited by the idea but didn't think it would be possible with the lack of custom game customisation Bungie seems to have included. I was joyed to see it was possible though, one of the unique points of my map!

Thanks everyone for the comments, and please feel free to add anymore contructive feedback.

    I believe so ;)

Never mind. I just checked the object palette and was pretty shocked to be honest. Are the only movable boxes/crates those two variants (taken from H3 Orbital) in the scenery section? If so, there doesn't seem to be much else you can do about the breaching of the wall. Of course, it's not really important as far as gameplay goes.

Yeah, for some reason Bungie decided to include about 4 movable objects; the two crates, the cone, the stool, and the explosives. It's rarther dissapointing considering so many switches were made in Halo 3 using movable objects (Even the Gravlift isn't movable anymore), now none of that can be done. They didn't even include switches, so really they took away from the Forge, in some ways. Sad face.

Like I mentioned before I'm actually surprised that I could do as much as I could, as in making it close to the film.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I would love if I got some more, maybe?

I haven't had the chance to play the map yet but I want to say a few things.

First of all, I feel that the Falcons are a bit overkill.
Secondly, that Sniper that the Elites can pick up at the very beginning must have limited ammo. As shown in that 8v8 video, even a sniper who misses a lot (even though they were very good) can take advantage of the Spartans having zero cover on the first point of capture.

good but not the best ive seen... i am a bit of LOTR fan and hav made helms deep, no one can make a perfect one my raps to small . with yours i think your wall is to short and the fort part is tall. there is also no horn tower and the building behind the fort like walls is to short and unaccurate. But... the eveness is great so from wat i can tell u put ur time into this. i believe a good map is one tht takes awhile to get rite if u fix the proporsions an put in the tower and te entrance to the caves this would b near perfect :p.

    Edited by merge:

this variant of helms deep reminds me of minas tirith lol cause its too tall
