    Hi guys!

I posted this thread to get some opinions on the new Forge for Halo Reach. Feel free to list any complaints, comments, or anything that has to do with Forge. Just short of spamming and flaming of course.

Some of my opinions is that the new "button layout" allows for so much more precision in forging! It would take me several minutes to perfectly place a object in Halo 3 and much more when merging it(Is that the correct term? Please send me a pm regarding forging terms if you have any time.XD) But it also took much time to get used to moving the objects and trying to absorb all the new features. Though it's for the better that forge got more simple and advanced at the same time.

I also love how theres so many objects and blocks to forge with!

Forging itself is just too awkward for me.

I often get splattered, or pushed outside the map by the object I spawned on smaller maps such as Zealot.

    The menus are very confusing.

I hate how every object is set to phased instead of normal.

It takes absolutely 0 skill to forge now.

    That's about it.

    Agree with the pushing part

I totally agree with you on the fact that object push you around a bunch, but I don't seem to get splattered... It is awkward at first, but then after awhile it gets easier. It does take less "skill to forge stuff now, but it does still take skill on making an original map and actually using all the new features available to you. I remember how hard it was to forge something in Halo 3 for first time. I guess Bungie added all those extras to lessen the learning curve...

    There I fixed it.

Seriously, it isn't that hard to make a decent map, but it still takes skill to make a good map.

Ya know, that's how it's supposed to be. Forging shouldn't be hard, design is the major idea now.

But for me, forge is amazing. I just can't get enough. It's just so entertaining. The new controls optimize just that, control, and the objects are awesome. I love everything about our new forge.

Rorak, your right.... if you think about forging your idea should be the "easiest" part in a map production stage. The "hardest" would be the originality and design. What do you guys think about the 10k cap for Forge World. And does Forge World's size amaze you?

Honestly I've been messing around with forge for a quite some time and it takes getting use to, because they changed the controls, which is not bad at all. New game, new controls. I've already begun to form my mental picture of what a map should and shouldn't be.

    • Using too much pre-fabricated items makes your map less unique.
    • Not using enough pre-fab items eats up budget.
    • Map scale should be slightly bigger than Halo:CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 maps to account for armor abilities such as jetpack and sprint.
If you use too many pre-fab items the map becomes very enclosed and narrow. Which means enemies are able to get around corners in every turn, making killing them a pain. Room sizes should be moderately bigger, than you think they should be, to account for player movement. Take a look of the remake of Ascension from Halo 2. Pre-fab is used for bases, but Ascension has a vast area of openness to it. Say no to Cookie cutting!

Why does everyone think Forge should be hard? Isn't the whole point of Forge being able to create a map with ease, not with frustration? I don't get it.

Thanks for all the posts, I like your insight about pre-fab items Zero. What do you guys perfer the Reach Forge World or the Halo 3 Sandbox? To me it seems that Sandbox(Halo 3 of course) is much bigger since it has 3 levels...but Forge World has a bunch more stuff to work with.

Well, you can make a sky map wherever you want, and there is already a replacement for the crypt, so I see Forge World as a complete upgrade to Sandbox.

OH yeah! I totally forgot that you could float objects with out "glitching" anymore...And I'm guessing by crypt you mean the coliseum?

    yes that what he meant.

but anywayz...Forge world is way effing bigger then sandbox without question!

But on topic: I dont really have any complaints lol, when i first tried to forge i was super confused with rotating degrees and pushing and pulling the object away, and then i realized that its much faster and easier to just punch in the numbers rather then manually move the object lol. Forge world equals win.

PS. Has anyone successfully made a king of the hill map in reach yet? I can start the game fine but my hill doesnt spawn. i even tried putting down lots of hills with all the possible setting combinations and noe of them showed up? what the eff.....how do you make a king of the hill map? anyone?

Halo Reach forge was at first tough to grasp with the new controls. But over time I think I will get used to the controls and make some geat maps. Because in H3 I was experienced but I wasnt the best forger. But now with all the new stuff and what makes it easier I can make some really nice maps because I was always a creative person as a forger

People who think that it's bad that it's easier to Forge are the kind of people that get put into retirement homes.

    ^^^ lololol

I find the new forge so much more awesome like, you get so much more freedom compared to H3 and IMO forge world looks better then sandbox, god I hate desert stages. Its also way easier to mess around in FW (forge world >.<) and just create fun maps :p

    • The forge objects have lots of extra polies to make them pretty like windows and beveled edges and stuff, which means you are allowed less than you would if they were just very basic.

So basically, aesthetics = less pieces.

    • The rotation snap is buggy and hard to use.

    • You can't "phase" through objects as the monitor and so sometimes you get crammed up against a piece and the camera starts going crazy.

    • You can't make a turret non-detachable (which is the most puzzling thing about forge so far).

    • Invasion is too limited, I think.

The only real thing I can complain about is the menu setup. Not the best if you ask me.

At first i thought, it's totally crappy with the controlling of the camera and so on, i mean lifting objects in the air while pressing RB etc.

But after playing a bit around with friends, the controlling is really useful and you can place things more exactly now.

There's only one thing that sucks...
If you fly around, press the cross and you fly around as a Spartan... hit somehting and BÄM dead.. -.-*

But the whole thing is really better now.
I also like the "style" of the objects much much more than the style in Sandbox :p

It all depends on how you look at the object; ie, what angle you look at it, from where, etc..

    I don't think it's buggy at all.

I'm having trouble lining things up. Even with the auto snap and coordinate adjustments, it just seems like things don't exactly align as easily as they should. Take the "Colosseum Window," for example. It's obviously intended to fit into the little interior box on FWorld, closing it in, but you can't get it perfect by moving it in with coordinates. I wish I could move parts by smaller increments without resorting to moving them by hand like a Halo 3 era caveman.
