    How to Post Screenshots

Hello. I'm writing this guide to help everyone get an easier understanding of how to post screen shots on the Forgehub forums. One of the requirements for a map post is that you must have at least one embedded picture. I'm going to give you some easy step by step instructions on how to get your pictures posted!

    Hosting Images on Tinypic
Step 1 - Go to "My Halo:Reach Service Record." (Note: Make sure you are logged in at Bungie.net)

Step 2 - Once you are on Service Record page, click on "Recent Screenshots" under the Fileshare section.

Step 3 - Click on the picture you would like to upload.

Right click on the image and scroll down to "Save Image As"

Save the file in an easy to locate folder. You will need to find this picture later.

-Repeat Step 3 if you have more than one picture you would like to upload.

Step 4 - Go to Tinypic.com and click on the "Browse" button in the center of the page.

Step 5 - Locate the screen shot you saved from Bungie.net and press "Open"

Step 6 (optional) - If you would like to re-size the image so it looks nice in your map post, then I recommend re-sizing it to 800x600.

Step 7 - Now click on "Upload Now" to start uploading your screen shot.

Remember to fill out the Captcha and press "Upload Now" again.

Step 8 - Copy the IMG code of your picture.

    Paste it into your thread.

-If you want to upload more than one picture into your thread, then press 'Upload More' at step 8.

    All done!

    Hosting Images on Photobucket
(special thanks to xSharpshooter94 for the guide.)

Why, hello there! I see that your post is lacking pictures. Here at Forgehub.com, we require that each map post have some visual representation. This can be in either a video on youtube or another type of hosting sites (Which you can find more information on Here) or, more commonly, with the inclusion of pictures. Thanks to bungie's in-game screen shot system and the bungie.net syncing system, you can do this relatively easily.

    What will you need:
    • Xbox Live Gold Account
    • Photobucket, or other image hosting abilities/account
    • Access to a computer....which if your reading this shouldn't be too hard...

    How to Get Pictures:

    1. The first thing you need to do is create your map and play a game on it. Pretty simple...
    2. When your finished, head into theater mode and take the pictures as you normally would.
    3. Now that is where, the computer maneuvering begins. Now head over to Bungie.net, and search your Gamertag in the search bar.

[IMG]This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1024x357.[IMG]
    4. The next step is to go to your recent screen shots on the left hand side of your personal service card.

[IMG]This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1023x724.[IMG]
    5. Here will be a list of all of the screenshots that you have taken of your map, sometimes it takes a while for the site to upload your screenshots, so please be patient. From here, select the "Download Hi-Res" button. Save it somewhere you can find, such as your desktop. Do this for all your pictures.

[IMG]This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1024x894.[IMG]
    6. Now head over to you Image hosting site, the simplest to use here would be Photobucket.com. Once there, sign in or sign up if necessary. Then click the “Upload now” button.

[IMG]This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1023x810.[IMG]
    7. Once you do this, click the “Select photos and videos” button and upload your picture(s).

[IMG]This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1024x611.[IMG]
    8. Then come on over to your album by clicking the “My albums” button at the top of the page.

    9. Next find the photo(s) you uploaded and copy the IMG code.

    10. Come over to you post and paste the code where you wish the picture to appear.

[IMG]This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1022x534.[IMG]
    11. Viola, you have successfully added pictures to your post. Congratulations! Now you may see the yellow bar on the top of your picture, this is the image resizer, making sure your picture fits on the page. You can leave it or edit you picture to fit the page, whatever floats your boat!

[IMG]This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 979x682.[IMG]

Right Click on the image and select "Copy Image Location" This copies the direct image URL.

Go back to your thread and Click on the "Insert Image" button. Then Paste your image link into the box. Press "OK"

Step 10 - Go back to your thread and Click on the "Insert Image" button. Then Paste your image link into the box. Press "OK"

All Done! Your image should now show up like this.

NOTE: All of these websites are completely FREE. You do not have to pay or sign up for an account to get things to work.

Thanks for reading my guide to the new Forgehub Image Hosting. If you do not like Tinypic or Imageshack you can use any other image hosting site like Imgur or Photobucket to get the job done.

Getting your Thumbnail Image to work
Next to your map post in the maps section there is a thumbnail image you may insert. Many people are wondering how to get that image there. The site should always take the first image you post in your thread as a thumbnail automatically, or you can put a different one there manually.

The easiest way to get your thumbnail working the first time is by posting an image URL in the slot where it says "Thumbnail URL." Many people miss this. Follow these easy steps to get your thumbnail working:

Step 1 - Go to your map thread. Scroll down to where it says "EDIT." click.

Step 2 - Now you will see all of the options you can edit. Near the top of your post you will find what you are looking for. Next to "Thumbnail URL:" paste your image URL.

Your result should have a little image posted next to your map like this.

Note: Make sure that you do not add any codes or website links to your thumbnail URL. It should be the raw image ONLY.
    [/SIZE][/COLOR][/COLOR][/SIZE][/spoiler][SIZE=5][COLOR=White][COLOR=Gray][SIZE=3]
    [/SIZE]
    Using [/COLOR][URL="http://www.forgehub.com/forum/misc.php?do=bbcode"]BBcode[/URL][/COLOR][/SIZE]
    [spoiler]
BBcode is very useful when posting pictures or anything in a thread. BBcode is a code you type in to change things in your post. Here are some helpful codes you can use in your map post. Just copy the codes and delete the "Type words here" and insert what you want it to say.

IMG - [code][noparse][IMG]Type Direct Image link here[/noparse][/code] This is the basic Image code for insert pictures.

    Bold -
    Code:
    [noparse][b]Type words here[/b][/noparse]
This code will Bold the text you put inside of the brackets.

    Italicize -
    Code:
    [noparse][i]Type words here[/i][/noparse]
This code will Italicize the text you put inside of the brackets.

    Underline -
    Code:
    [noparse][U]Type words here[/u][/noparse]
This code will Underline the text you put inside of the brackets.

    Size -
    Code:
    [noparse][SIZE=4]Type words here[/SIZE][/noparse]
This code will increase or decrease the text you put inside of the brackets. Change the '4' to whatever size you want.

    Spoilers
    Code:
    [noparse][spoiler]Type words here[/spoiler][/noparse]
This code will put your text/pictures inside of a spoiler.

Now that you have the basic idea down on how to insert codes. Look at this thread for the full list of options.

The picture might have been uploaded into your recent downloads. I chose Tinypic because you don't have to sign up for an account and it is very straight forward. I've also had troubles with imageshack in the past.

I'm going to write a different guide for the new way to post screen shots and put that in here too.

You should say that any other image hosting site works too.

Nice, but this isn't that hard to grasp and we already have multiple threads on this...
Also, Photobucket is way easier to use. Trust me.

Obviously this thread isn't for you then. A vast majority of the new members that will come with Reach won't know how to post screenshots. Also, the other guides are outdated because of the new Bungie layout. On top of that, I know several people that will tell you Photobucket is not actually all that great.

What step are you having trouble with?

EDIT: finished the Forgehub image hosting guide. Tell me how you guys like it.

They appear fine to me....I'm trying to use this new forgehub hosting thing and I don't think it is working very well lol. None of my pictures come up as invalid for me.

After reading the Forgehub guide... Is it really neccessary to have to go through all those steps.

I used to be able to do it with:
    1. Find Image on Bnet
    2. Save
    3. Upload to Photobucket.
    4. Copy and Paste the IMG Code

Am I not understanding the guide or am I unaware of a new method we must use?

Those are the basic steps to uploading on any site. I included pictures and more descriptions so it looks larger. If you break down my tinypic guide it is practically the same thing.

The forgehub image hosting is a guide I am working on right now. I'm having problems setting it up though..

This is definitely a great guide for a first time, but I'm wondering about a lot of things:

    1. You do realize that there are already two guides on how to get screenshots, right?
    2. Literally 3/4 of the pictures in the first tutorial don't even work, which is weird because this is a tutorial on how to post pictures.
    3. Why would you resize the picture, anyways? Wouldn't you want a bigger version? I don't think people with big monitors are going to like this.
    4. It just kind of seemed like the other guides made it much easier (especially the one with ImageShack).

Perhaps if you worked on this guide a lot more, it would be more up to the other ones, which look like they put a lot of time into. If you need any help with cool titles or fonts, let me know. But for now, way too many tutorials.

    1. Those guides are outdated, like I already stated in this thread. Bungie got a new layout.
    2. I'm aware of this. Somethings got goofed up with the Forgehub image Hosting so I scrapped it. I will fix the Tinypic guide soon enough.
    3. Most threads have pictures that have yellow bars on top of them making them look unprofessional. If you look at the featured map threads they are re sized to a smaller degree. I also said it was optional to do it.
    4. Some guides suit some people. This guide will help people brand new to image hosting, especially since it is updated to fit bungie's new layout.

This thread should definitely be mentioned in the next site update. With the huge influx of new forgers, this will hopefully prevent as much "needs picturez or will get loxorzed".

Good guide. I prefer Photobucket for uploading pictures, but it's all about personal preference I guess.

Yeah I'm trying to get more guides up. I just added the Imageshack guide. Everyone has the website they favor over another, so different guides are somewhat necessary.

Nice guide spawn, it just needs a bit of cleaning up, the formatting just looks a bit odd IMO.

FYI guys, tinypic is part of the photobucket group, but unlike photobucket, it doesn't give retarded bandwidth errors after 5 people view the image. IMO, it is also much simpler. We had an arguement about this in the halo 3 forums a while back and well tbh, it wasn't much of an argument, people prefer tinypic due to the simplicity.

Once you post a screenshot in your thread then a thumbnail will pop up. Alternatively, you can paste a picture link in the "Thumbnail link' in the advanced options of your map post.
