I may seem a little pessimistic, but am I the only one thinking that there may not be anything particularly groundbreaking about Halo: Reach's Forge? I mean I know that we're given new tools and resources, but from what I've seen, all these tools do is make things that have practically already been done easier. What I'm truly looking for is something totally unexpected, and I wouldn't put it past Bungie to include something spectacular that no one has heard **** about, but from what I've seen so far I'm not very hopeful for anything other than massively larger custom maps, and basically full scale campaign missions. I'm certainly hoping I can eat my words, and by the release I'll find out, but I guess what I'm looking for here and now is if anyone feels the same as me or if they can point out something I'm missing.
The same thought occurred to me, the idea that everything that is in Forge 2.0 is already in, say, FarCry 2's map editor. The crucial difference is the gameplay itself. It's difficult to justify building a map for a game that has low-quality replayability. That's why even though we've seen this level of editing in other games, it's different because it's Halo. And as far as the statement, "All these tools do is make things that have practically already been done easier". It seems to me that this is the most user-friendly map editor I've ever seen. But it's just my personal opinion of course. My own dissapointments have been as follows: There can only be 12 teleporters, or 6 pairs. It kind of screws up some of my plans. I've heard rumors that the budget isn't as wealthy as it seems. I they're wrong. You can't place the location names. I wanted to be able to do that. There are no buttons, (like the gate in Last Resort). But switches can be created manually, so it's fine.
It's all the little bits put together that will make it nice. Like teleporters with adjustable sizes, multiple-strength man cannons, better environments to build in, all these things that alone are small will combine to create a ton of new possibilities for Customs, beside the fact that it will all be much easier to make.
You are the kind of people who would get a free piece of cake on someone's birthday and then complain that it has no sprinkles.
it will be US who make it revolutionary. Bungie has smoothed out the process for us, to give us much more freedom and ease, it will be the forgers who revolutionize Forge, just like it was in H3.
/pessimism Indeed. I have high hopes though. Forge revolutionized the way I see Halo today. I hope Forge 2.0 puts it into a whole new perspective. All we can do is wait I suppose.
Well, we can spawn objects on individual seconds (1-180) instead of the preset times (10,15,20,30,45,60,90,120,150,180). But with all we've been given, there's not much more they can give us. Despawning times and interactive objects are the only things we don't have. (besides up-ing the budget and item count.) Even if Bungie said "you can have one thing, anything you want, for forge", I wouldn't know what to say because we basically have everything we need.
There are few things missing in forge. Like switches, breakable glass, and thats it. If those aren't count, the forge is perfect.
I just want to say that the Halo 3 map editor when it started was not really groundbreaking, and crappy yet look what it has turned into. The halo reach forge will develop into something unimaginable
