This theory has been proven to work, so I decided to post it for you all. From the image you can see that I have used 3 one way doors. One way doors have a smooth pull on them which pulls things through them. Put multiple one way doors and you have yourself a lift. There are other methods other than grav lift to start the process. If you designed it perfectly, you could just walk in the the one way doors would do the work. The great thing is that from the side which you enter, you see a slight opacity, at the top you will see a orange opacity. Thoughts on this guys? People are starting to go off topic, please develop the idea and do not discus situations where one lift would be better than another.
So the distance between each door would be slightly less than the height of the player? The player goes through the first door, as soon as their feet are through their head has already poked through the next door? Sounds like a great idea and if that is how it works then to get it started you just need to have the first door (or all the doors if you like) at an angle, with the higher end where the player walks in then there head passes through the door has it lowers. Team specific lifts? Looking forward to it. Edit
An interesting yet slighty $ idea. Well worth looking into for close maps, nice. want wait to see it in a Reach switch thread when it comes out.
yeah I was thinking an angled lift would work, but I'm not so sure if it would be powerful enough at an angle. As I said, if it was forged exactly to player height, it would just suck the player up fine, no need for a grav lift. Also, team specific? Costly? I didn't check the prices. Also, there is a switch thread out, it's been dug down though, it should have been stuck. EDIT: @ DMM, yeah that would work and also launch you forward slightly.
Each door is 200 points, not certain of the lift price, DMM White's version makes it cheaper, sorta like an elevator, which I like, and also spits you out, which I also like. Bobbing on the shield door was always something I disliked in some games.
Can't you set the doors to only allow a specific team to pass through them? Or is that something you can only do with teleporters? Also, while looking at the item list, I noticed there is no One Way Shield 1. Only 2, 3 and 4...
So why are multiple shield doors necessary, exactly? It should work fine with only one and a man-cannon. Though I can see why the multitude of one way doors would be interesting.
Yah my design was only a concept to show you the idea, obviously the designs would differ. & The one way door does bounce you, but only slightly, not much as a shield door. I don't think so, but for some reason I feel like in one of the videos I saw it. I will have to ask my source when I get a chance ;p --- Because the reach mancannons launch you half way across forge world -.- & it looks nicer.
I believe that the number represents the size of the Shield Door. Can't prove it, but i think i heard that once or twice. So essentially there is no super-tiny version. Meh.............................. ...maybe.
There are different types of man cannons. Light, regular, heavy, vehicle, and regular grav lifts. Though I see where you're coming from. The lift would also feel much more natural, like the guardian gold lift.
yeah that's what I want, something smooth and natural. I think everyone agrees that the one way door is much nicer than a huge random launch up.
Disagree! I love going through man cannons! It's feels so epic getting launched out of something at extremely high speeds! Besides, with this idea, the player gets a mouthful of wall.
I saw it in action If I get a chance I will try and record it in action, or you could just watch it -.-
One thing that I'm surprised no one else has thought of is that having the shield doors at spartan length is not viable. It would be simple too easy for a person to start going up the lift and then crouch so they are in the middle, and cannot be killed. You'd be forced to nearly double all of the shield doors. At 200 a pop, that is much too expensive to be viable versus a man cannon or gravity lift unless you've used them all and it is a last resort and you have a lot of money to spend. One interesting idea is to use this train of thought but only for teleporting purposes. I havn't heard of this, so I'm not sure if there is a setting that makes it so only certain teams can go through the shield doors. But it would be interesting to have small rooms where you walk in, are sucked up through a single shield door for your team into your own team armory/room where you can use your teleporter, get weapons specific to your team, etc...
No, if you actually tried going near them in the beta you would realize how strong they are. Plus the bounce you. Your momentum would keep you going dude. No doubt
If you wanted to keep people from staying in there, you could add a soft kill zone to it. People would easily make it through in 10 seconds, and it would prevent sitting in the elevator.
The whole idea is clean and neat. But personally, if I had a situation/area that I wanted to use this, I would set it up with a gravity lift or something, then finish the map, and IF I had like 1000$ or however much it will cost to blow on it, I'd do it. It seems much more like fluff/polish than required map mechanics. Nice find though ^_^
This idea might improve racetracks because for all we know it could be smoother and faster for a mongoose to go up to another area. Cool concept, Ben
