Well if a lot of you know that Bungie is in love with the number 7. If you look at the date there is a 7 in the release date. Can you find it?

    Release Date=9.14.10

    Hint: Dont think to hard!
    Hint 2: No math required

    Don't spam >.>

Bungie always puts 7 references in their games, even release dates.

September was the seventh month of the year in the roman calendar.

I highly doubt Bungie was putting 7 into there this way but... in the 4 of 14 it makes a seven shape out of the left side of the four. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's there.

    could be interpreted like this:

    9/14/2010

    in which case

    9/14/2010

    14/2 = 7

Most of the world writes the date dd/mm/yy. Which would be 14.09.10

Although the us is special and doesn't use the metric system, bungie seems to think as part of the larger world.

Here's the way I thought of it when I first heard there was a seven in the release date... Which by the way was months ago...

    9.14.10

    9-2=7

Then you take the two from there and put it like this:

    14/2=7

    7.7.10

Which lead me to believe that there was going to be an immense amount of Reach information on Bungie Day... Too bad there wasn't.

Actually, it's mainly because MS think September is a good release time, it's a Tuesday, which, once again is a good release day for MS, and it's 117 (John-117) days after the beta.
September is just a coincidence. I guess 14 is double 7, but why didn't they release on the seventh, seems a bit more likely eh?
Oh and thesilencebroken; good find. That might be it aswell, I dunno.
