Fiddling with the few remaining hours I have of Sketchup I decided to try and get a scope on just how large my battleship is going to be, so I began tossing a few items around and she began to form. a major WIP, but the estimated size is there. Afterall, it's just the inital part of her super structure and overview By thegreathibiki at 2010-08-12 from her deck. By thegreathibiki at 2010-08-12 Not really liking her Radar and still having difficulty with the sketchup program so I doubt the Sketchup will ever look as I see her in my mind. (also I goofed up her secondary gun (shade) up behind the two main guns (tanks). But, how's she looking, she's the correct size for when I put her together with a lot more work but I think this will be a really fun map to do. I just wonder if I have enough peices. only 1/3rd of her deck and I used 12 huge walls. What do you guys think? Does she look like she's worth doing? my end result I hope will be something looking as close to OR rather
^^Lol^^. But its definately worth making. It looks pretty good so far but I think you could mess around with the radar more on Reach... Looks good.
It says I only have 53 minutes left of my trial key and I am not paying 430 bucks for a program I will rarely use after Reach comes out.
Oh my! I hope no one has paid that for our mere forge purposes. That's the Pro version. Use the free version LINK. EDIT: I'm sure you noticed, but that's a GIGANTIC boat! You may need to scale it down a bit to make it actually work in game. Not sure what the budget will be regarding those huge wall pieces, but I just counted 17 of them. That may be pushing the budget there. Remember you still need to complete the hull and all the filler: rooms, antennas, guns, railings and other details. I will commend you if you can make a playable life size battleship even if it was only set up as an aesthetic map. GOOD LUCK MAN!!
Yeah, I agree. The budget is 10,000 and I think each of those pieces is 100. If you're gonna do the whole thing that way, it'll be expensive. Looks good though!
Hey, I really like your idea and im gonna say that its definatly possible, as I built some ships in halo 3( some more successfull than others XD), and in halo reach we have more resources, tools, objects, etc. If you're interested, I could help you with creating the yamato. Do you mind if I send you a friend request?
Update 1. Sketchup's log, stardate 2010.8-13. The yamato's outer hull still remains a mystery as how I will do it and with a revised sketchup not held down by limits of time I see myself working on her super structure with more focus. I know not how I will use the huge wall slate items effectively but I know now I can make her with ease. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Status of interiors may prove unuseable but only when reach is released will we know. End log.
update 2 By thegreathibiki at 2010-08-14 tried making her smaller in case the item limit is more stiff than i want. i think she looks okay but there is a level of unpleasentness in having to compromise my design because the new forge is still so limited. However it's moot until I actually get into reach and build her. In particular I couldn't think of a way to shrink her lovely lady lump in the back. So she's got a getto booty, some guys like that.
Ive got a similar map planned, and this looks pretty sweet! make it really huge! lots of levels and it will be favorite for a lot of people,
I like your final result..although i dont understand the "ghetto booty thing" ( i know what ghetto booty is but i dont see the problem with the back) can you do a side by side in the original thread just for reference?
No offense to the people that like building ships, but they don't really interest me when I see 'em being forged. This one on the other hand, really caught my attention. I really do hope that you are able to forge it when the time comes.
WHOA! I didn't think this was a ship Good thing I looked here. This is actually pretty good, but yeah, you'll need to do something about the back end. Maybe make it like the front, but have a difference that'll make the back distinct from the front? Also, It's be cool if you made the guns so then the deck covers the scorpion all but the cannon so it just sticks out. If you did it right, they could enter the scorpion from up top, or if you did it even better, had it so the see a plate of the tank and it sort of looks like a 'door' and then they enter the tank there.
Update Version 1 second build. By thegreathibiki at 2010-08-15 So I threw the limit out the airlock and flushed it into space. Anyway a not so bound by the supposed limits I honeslty don't have a clue how many I've used slate walls. I spent more time fixing up the back. By thegreathibiki at 2010-08-15 I'll keep working on both versions, and when Reach comes out I'll see what I can do. SECOND VERSION: Keeping within the prescribed budget limit and tweaking the rear end I'm adding AA banks to the tower on the budget friendly Yamato. By thegreathibiki at 2010-08-15 The fixed booty By thegreathibiki at 2010-08-15 If Reach comes out and I can do it I will see about taking parts of both versions to make an advanced 3rd.
Is version 1 supposed to be more accurate? I think the 2nd one is better, it's budget-friendly (as you say) and it looks better. And you still gotta work on the back end. It really looks ugly with half a circle sticking out of a trapezoid-shaped ship.
