How long until Reach will stop being fun?

How long will Reach go for until people switch to different games?

I know I'm going to love Reach and i'm going to play it for years, but how long do you think Reach is going to have a strong community still playing it? I think it's going to be a long time before people start leaving Reach to play other games. Yes you can play other games and play Reach.

My reason for it lasting a LONG time is...

It's a complete game. Nothing cut out. A complete experience which will take lots of time to complete, but who said it was over after you reached the highest level and beat the game? So much stuff, so little time.

    • Campaign - Four difficulty levels, four people, and tons of skulls. People are going to keep on pushing thier limit and trying to beat the game the hardest way they can.
    • Firefight - Four difficulty levels, four people, tons of skulls, AND a endless onslaught of the covenants fiercest warriors. People are going to compete for the high score and keep on seeing how far they can get.
    • Matchmaking - 2-16 people, tons of levels, tons of gametypes, and don't forget the armory. Wether it's just to have some for friends or serious MLG you're going to love it. Play, win, level, new armor, new bragging rights.
    • Theater - The best moments of the game and the ability to watch it, record it, and share it to your friends.
    • Forge - The best part (for Forgers). Tons of maps, tons of options. You're the creator. What is your perfect map?

Yes i know. Halo 3 would still survive years if Reach wasn't coming out, but Reach is a better game. If Halo 3 lasted this long, how long will Reach last?

For me, a LONG time. Other games such as CoD, or ... I don't even know any other games, hey just don't have the same appeal, unless something completely blows my mind to the point I actually go out and buy it (the likelihood of that is beyond microscopic), I don't see Reach even leaving my disc tray.

theres no need to stop playing it other than when you get bored really. In Halo ive done the Campaign on Legendary Solo, All Achievments, Release alot of maps and im a Legit 50 but I still play all the time.

I think Halo 3's longevity comes from the communities that have sprang up due to Forge, Customs and Theatre. Its these tight-knit communities which have kept the engine ticking over even though the game is over 3 years old. Theres no reason why Halo Reach should be any different.

Halo 3 is still being played after like 4 years.
Each CoD lasts about a one and a half year(s)?
Halo CE Still has lots of players.
Halo Reach is better than all of those stated above so I would say around until a new xbox console comes out (hopefully there won't just keep updating 360) or around 7-15 years mehbeh. I'm a little drastic though.

most likely Reach will die when every one of its fans die which won't happen for atleast another 80 years so I say 80 years :D

My level of enjoyment with H3 has been rising at a steady rate since release, whilst many people are winding down on it due to age and Reach approaching, I love it more than I ever have (although the most gutting thing is that I'm better now than I've ever been too, I'm really hitting my stride ... just before Reach rolls around and changes everything). If it weren't for Reach, I'd happily continue playing it indefinitely. With Reach being the last Bungie Halo game, and 343's direction with the franchise uncertain at this point, I'm with jakob in that it could well be many a year until I see a good reason to put Reach down (ie. a new game stealing my heart or if I just get bored of Reach).

i don't think reach will ever die out, unless 343 make a better halo game than reach.

Reach will probably last a while considering how long Halo 3's run has been.
    I really can't wait. o_O

Off topic: Woot, my first post!

It will come and go and come back. This game will probably never fully leave me.

That's what happened to me and halo 3 (that rhymed). I played it all the time, but my friends got Mw2 and I stopped playing, but now I'm dedicated to making a great map and posting on Forgehub before Reach comes out.

I think Reach will never die honestly. I mean H2 was still active (only a little) until Bungie had to actually pull the plug on it. I especially think it wont die because of Forge World specifically. Being able to build on this giant canvas with these new-fangled tools will keep the die-hards coming back to new and better stuff constantly. Especially when we're able to forge Invasion/Invasion slayer maps, the new stuff will just keep flowing until the Rings kill us all.

What is invasion slayer, and how is it different from slayer? I don't think i played it in the beta.

Well, Halo 3 came out 3 years ago. I would say it would probably lose its fun in 2 1/2 years. (that's a complete opinion) So that would give it a "fun life" of 5 1/2 years. Reach will have more multiplayer options, better forge, firefight, ect. Plus DLC can always revive a game when it starts to lose fun. I would guess Reach will still be very fun for 4 years, and won't lose its "fun life" for at least 6-7 years

It is a 6v6 slayer game that took place (in the beta) on Boneyard. As standard Invasion progressed in giving access to new loadouts so too did Invasion Slayer. After a set number of kills was reached by either team (Elites vs. Spartans.) the more powerful loadouts would become available. Also, areas that you can capture would appear in random locations on the map. Upon capturing them, a countdown would appear that once had run out, would graciously deliver either a vehicle or a set of power weapons. The vehicles would become more powerful as the game progressed and which vehicle you were awarded with would depend on which team captured it. (Spartans would get UNSC vehicles, Elites would get Covy.)

    Here's a link describing both:
