That's pretty cool, but I like the groups thing. Althoguh the major flaw of that is MAJOR ASSHOLES WHO THINK IT'S FUNNY TO SUBMIT THEIR OWN CRAPPY FILES 12 ****ING TIMES IN THE SAME BUNGIE FAVORITES. Not cool.
I really am confused about how this is all going to go down really. In a way it does seem way better only because for nobody's like me can accualy get a chance. Cause really the bungie favorites has been crappy if they started that again they should forgehub in charge of that. Overall I really don't care only because after seeing forge in halo reach I am satisfied so far.
Not to go to off-topic but has anyone noticed how long that one bungie favourates has been up. Has it been discontinued cuz of reach.
...Long time, but does it matter? All the good maps are here on FH. And as for 'should ForgeHub in charge of that', I think that would be left to a screenshot website. I mean that's the only reason I check out B favorites.
So this means bots will get maps to the top and popular people with not so good maps who get lots of downloads just because they are popular will get to the top! :S Great..
ForgeHub barely scratches the surface of user content. Think of all the groups besides FH dedicated to making maps, screenshots, and videos. I don't think it would be fair to other communities for FH to be put in the judges seat to declare what is good and what isn't. We, as a community have a distinct perspective. I love it when I see new maps outside of the community. It's always fun to see how other outside of FH tick. That's an arrogant thing to say. It's a gross generalization as well. There are plenty of good maps outside of FH, you just have to find them.
Hmm... not sure I like the sound of a fully automated system. I hope it's got a pretty significant mixin'-it-up filter employed to keep things fresh. It's not like the stuff that dominated the B.net forums for most discussed or downloaded was ever very compelling. Time to start a FH B-fav's voting block, methinks. lol.
True however when you are easily stricken with laziness, many find themselves depending on sites such as FH to find standout maps.
If people start to use the tagging and rating here on forgehub it could almost entirely take the place of the bungie forums. I don't even bother looking at fileshares because there is usually no description and maps on forgehub are usually the pride of their makers, not random junk.
Thank you Bungie. This is how Halo 3's system of selecting favorites should have been. No more groups that toss up shitty maps and screenshots
Adding more Achronos posts: Achronos:You're assuming that the replacement is in any way like how the Favorites work now. The actions you describe won't really do what you want it to do. Posted by: xReconAssassinX Hold on, I gotta tell all my friends to tag my screenshots, and get them to message it to all their friends as well so they can tag it. /sarcasm Seriously, everybody here realizes they'll be getting messages asking them for this 24/7, right? Everyone on my Recent Players List will be asking me to tag their crap. Achronos:Nope. Each file will have its own comment thread (the beta was a pretty good indication of how files will work from bungie.net's perspective). If you want to comment on it, you find the file. The file can be searched for via tags, via rating, date ranges, it can be recommended to you, etc. There won't be a place where you go "Look at my files" because that's silly. I don't want to look at your files. If I did, I'd be searching for them - either through my friend's list file shares, the main file search, etc. I don't think you guys understand a key problem here: every single person invested in user content thinks their own content is awesome and unique. But there are several million of you. And if you think it was bad during Halo 3 you haven't seen what in-game tagging and searching will do to it. So, the philosophy here is to provide you with tools to properly label your files, recommend files to your friends, and search for files to others. Think of it as a pull model (file searching) rather than a push one (posting to a forum). If I want content, I should have the tools to pull content down. Content creators shouldn't get to force their stuff on me. Forums are almost never the right answer. They're barely the right answer for holding conversations as it is. Or have you not tried to read the Reach forum lately? Posted by: A Deaf Boy That just begs to have the Files Forum brought back. If that statement is truly the way it will be done in Reach, that is good. But the community needs a place to notice it. Together. And this tagging system, while GREAT to find stuff, isn't the answer since you can't search for awesome content. The old (not the newer one) Files Forum would be a great place to share content, while having the tagging system to find it if searching randomly. A Files Forum would also give more people attention to more content, thus increasing the amount of comments, ratings, and tags any file gets, which in hand improves the tagging system. I really can't see a downside to having the Files Forum back. We have more moderators now, so moderating shouldn't be an issue, since it was a little back then. Achronos:I don't think you understand the numbers of files we're dealing with here. We're talking hundreds of thousands of pieces of content, and every author pretty much thinks their own files are the best thing ever. There is simply no way anything manual is ever going to work. Bungie Favorites from Halo 3 was a lesson for us in how not to do things. Repeating the same mistake would be silly. Posted by: Reggae Panda you know whats needed? A ninja/mod/employee who is really in touch witht the custom content community. Would be far fairer and would hopefully ensure that nothing unworthy gets on *cough green lightning by north Kosar*cough*...I remember it that well. Anyways I'm just glad faves will actually be updated in reach. And what of the groups who have been in the waiting list for a long time, will? they get their chance in reach. If not then that is very unfair. And I also like the file forum idea, like one HUUUGE custom content group
There will never really be a perfect system IMO. With the system currently used, there are definetly faults. People only choosing their own and friends' or even higher ranked group members content rather than the other group members itself. Essentially a popularity contest where the outcome is terrible content. With the system in Reach, it's almost guaranteed that there are people who will be spamming away at tags, making duplicate accounts, telling their friends, the popular "recommend this to 100 people and get special bungie armor", ect. Neither of which seem like perfect systems but if I had a choice between one or the other it would be the current system.
Yea unfortunately, the amount of people that want to see their stuff up there outnumbers the amount of people that want to see quality stuff up there by like.... alot
