I've seen lots of people asking for sketchup components, so I thought I would start this thread.

I've made some components based off of this picture.

Here is what me and MickRaider have done so far.

If you want to make any components then use this scale. A Block Large is 40' x 40' x 40'. You can color them if you want, but you don't have to. Post any that you have and I'll fix them to fit in with the rest. Once we have the lot, we can post it as one download for anyone to use.

I will continue to make components, and hopefully you will help.

Hey man I love what you've got going here.

I've started making some blocks as well, I tried adding some colors similar to what I could make out from the picture. I'll definitely be willing to help you with this.

Just out of curiousity what size did you make your 1x1 block? I used the same scaling as the halo 3 block large, 20'x20'. Which when I place the spartan on the object it's pretty comparable to the picture.

I made it the same size as the block small in Sandbox (10' x 10'). Actually, size was one of the problems I ran into as, to me, the block large and block small seemed pretty comparable sizes for the block 1x1. So I just went into forge and brought up the small block and then compared it to when chad brought up the 1x1 block in a forge 2.0 demo.
    It looked pretty close

Its going to be quicker and easier to make a map in forge, rather than Sketchup (for me, anyway). So i think I will stick to hand drawn layouts and sketches

UPDATE: I've updated the thread to be simpler and with more recent components that Mick Raider made and some I made more recently, like the walls and doorways.

    Also, @Gunnergrunt.

Sketchup will always be easier to use than forge, because you can move several objects at once in sketchup. If you messed up and want to say move and entire floor up a half block, it would take a lot less effort in sketchup than in forge. And for now, you dont have forge 2.0 so you can't forge anything. Sketchup is all you have.

But hand drawn layouts will still be quicker than either.

Sketchup always took me a while, partially because I knew I could do these crazy designs on the computer but there was no way I could do that in Forge, so I'd have to keep rethinking my maps.

But I like what you've done so far, especially since you're going by just screenshots!

I did at first, but Im going to wait until there all done to post the link.
while drawing is quicker it is so much worse in terms of detail, and are kind of a hassle sometimes. Like if I was designing a map like Blackout, with levels on top of each other I would have to draw one level in one area of the paper and then draw another somewhere else, while keeping every ramp and stuff in the same basic position on each. For me, I can't look at a design like that imagine it in my head. Sketchup is 3d so you can do whatever you want, and basically make the map on your computor before you forge it, to the greatest amount of detail you want. This way, I can really imagine how flow might work on a map on such.

I see your point with the whole fact of it being 3D. I guess i'm just more used to 2D plans as i have been using them since i was 13. So thats 4 years of 2D plans.

How many more components are you going to make? and when do you expect to finish?
You don't need to do all the components IMO, but definitely do the:
    *Window
    *Obelisk
    *Bridges
*The Small railings in front of the bridges
    *Post
    *Ramps
    *Pyramid things

Other wise the other structures seem useless to make as components, same as the rocks.

I thought I would give you a little update, so those are the objects created today. To fill you in, Mick and I are almost done with the basic components, which includes the blocks, walls, ramps, railed ramps, railed walkways, and rails. Once all of those are complete, we will release all of them for download in a basic component package. Then, we will try our hand at some of the more complicated structures, and the ones we can make, we will release in an extended component package.

I know my friend JEEF12364 has made some basic to-scale Reach components if you'd like to ask him about his.

But to me, it's too soon to be trying to sketch with legit Reach components.

I agree, it will take much longer to sketch up rather than forge, but sketchup is still pretty helpful, especially with collabs. I dont think you need to justify what your doing here to some people who disagree with you. Enough people will be helped by this.

I really like what you guys are doing, this will be great for the months leading up to Reach. Keep up the good work guys. I would offer to help but im not very good at making components. I shall spread word amongst my main forum though as we have some sketchup users there who may be able to help you.

they obviously wont be able to do it yet. Sky base maps or maps designed for flat ground will be able to be designed though.

Is it confirmed that the main picture contians all of the peices available to us? Im sure i saw a red shield door in one of the video but i cant see it in the pic.

There are definitely more than aren't there. The Banshee and Revenant aren't even in there. There is for sure more to be seen.

I certainly hope so. I don't really like the whole idea of having such defined structures. Makes it feel too, forced.
