    Watery Grave

    Map: Watery Grave
    Gametype: The Mist

One of the scariest maps on Halo 3.

Watery Grave is a 6-13 player map with a simple concept of humans on the shores of Longshore slowly killing the never ending wave of zombies rising out of the water. The zombies move very slow but have just enough health to make it very close to getting kills. Occasionally really fast zombies will race out of the water and can appear right in front of you in a heartbeat. The fast zombies have less health though so humans still stand a chance of living...if they pay attention; the slightest distraction can occur at anytime in the map, for example a cone gets knocked over and you look at it, that's the perfect time for a fast zombie to rush out of the water and straight at you before you have time to react. A Custom Power-up gives the zombies the ability to run really fast.

Zombies are fully invisible yet you are sill able to see them. Why does this happen you might ask? Well because of the filter effect, pen and ink, an eerie mist appears on the map which allows the zombies to be slightly visible. But there's a catch. They are only visible when in the mist which means if you are hiding in one of the open shipping containers you won't see a mist and a zombie can walk right up next to you without you even noticing.

    The Honor Rule:
Humans can NOT go into the water!

The last tip I will give you before signing off is work as a team. I know it sounds a little
cliché but trust me. The only thing that's going to keep your team from dying is to stay together and cooperate to make it to the second floor.......oops, did I forget to tell you about that? Well after 2 minutes into the game, the map suddenly switches to daytime and a crate from the back wall is pushed out. If you go out there is a slightly higher rate of survival but now zombies can come from two sides. Anyways I'm sure if you stick together as a team you won't have much trouble......but you will die...eventually.

This sounds really cool, but your pictures aren't painting a pretty picture. Avoid showing off the map with pictures that are clouded by filters, they make it difficult for everyone to see what's going on.

This map was great! It was a nice break from all Infection games on Sandtrap. One thing though, I feel like the filters are doing more harm than good. I mean, they can create a cool effect (like in your 5th picture) but overall, they just make the game too blurry.

The Filter Effects are the only way you will see the zombie in the first place. The reason I had pen and ink instead of some other dark FX with half-invisible zombies is because it doesn't give you that creepy feeling of almost deformed looking creatures coming at you. Another reason for the effect is not being able to see exactly where your enemies are coming from; you can't quite see all the way in the water from the docks and you can't really see the back wall too clearly on top. It's to add an effect of solitude; you have nowhere to go and you can't see a way out. If you just ignore the fact that most people, including yourselves, don't like pen and ink or nova, the map is very enjoyable.

I think effects are a great way to give a map that special touch it needs to pull off whatever feeling it is attempting to create, but effects can also ruin it. In my opinion it is just bordering the line between success and failure. The map looks great, but the effects make the map almost loses the feel of creepy and replace it with annoyance. Next time try just making it dark, but not blurry.

geranamo, I played a similar type of map on cold storage. I understand what you're trying to do.

For the screenshots with what you forged, I suggest taking the filter off and taking screenshots. Then throw in screenshots of actual game play with the filter on.

For anyone that doesn't understand what he's trying to accomplish, giving zombies invisibility or partial invisibility with the pen and ink filter gives a "ghost" like effect where you can see a "blur" against objects that glow with the pen and ink filter but are hidden in the dark areas of the filter. It's actually a pretty cool side effect of the invisiblility/filter combination.

Played it, loved it. It would not be as good of a game without the filters. It really is not annoying at all in game and makes the whole gam seem really creepy. All the setting are perfect and the great water usage is great. Very fun game Geranamo. And to every one of you assholes who thinks it is worse because of the filters play the ****ing game b4 you make assumtions!
