EDIT: Apparently my estimates (while mathematically true) were completely incorrect. The proven numbers so far is less than one hour of forging nets you 50 credits. I will continue to look into this and give you the exact time at which credit gaining stops.

Hello Forgehub community, and welcome to the last day of the rest of your life!

We all saw the Forge World vi-doc, and I'm sure many of us are extremely hyped for this game. The Campaign, Matchmaking, Firefight... they are all amazing. And the new credits system encourages invested play. But what about Forge? After all, this is Forgehub, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess where a lot of the people from this community will be spending most of their time. From earlier videos (sorry I can't find them at the moment) and the beta we see players earning thousands of credits from just one play through of Campaign, MM, and Firefight. Will Forge be the same?

From what it seems, Bungie is indeed awarding credits for time spent in Forge (and the game knows the difference between actively playing, idle, and the rubber band trick). But just how many credits can a Forger make in a time period? Well, the Bungie panel at Comic-Con seems to have answered that question for me. And that number is:

    .68 credits/second or 1.45 seconds/credit

Now, don't worry, I will explain how I got these numbers. Though if you want to skip the rest of my post, feel free, all that is left is boring calculations :)

During the Bungie panel, a full game of Forge is shown, throughout Part two and some of Part three of these videos.

The Forge session starts around 3:12 in part two and lasts the rest of the part two video (12:26). That leaves a difference of 9:14. Part three continues the forge session until 6:00, so adding these two Forge times together gives us 15:14. Converting 15:14 to seconds gives us 914 seconds of Forge coverage, after which the player is rewarded with 630 credits.

Dividing 630 by 914 gives us the number of credits earned per second, and dividing 914 by 630 gives us the number of seconds needed per credit.

Now, if you stayed with me this long you are quite brave, so I will give you a special treat. Taking the .68 credits/sec and multiplying it by 3600 gives us the number of credits earned per hour, which is:

    2,448 credits/hour (exactly!)

That is some excellent math you did there P3P5I! Dang... If most of us spend about 50 or so hours on one map, and Forge World's maps are going to be 10x as big as the maps we're building now, we're gonna be earning like 200,000 credits per map. Wow... That's awesome. No need for matchmaking then.

Pretty glad about that. I don't want my Player Investment to suffer for an interest in forging.

There should be a way to track the amount of credits earned in each lobby.
e.g. Matchmaking credits, Forge credits, Campaign credits, Custom game credits, etc(?).

Great find. I was dreading that I would need matchmaking to customize my spartan. Looks like that won't be a problem! :)

That would be unnecessarily complicate ROFLwaffle. And it would cause points to be lost when you try to buy things. However, Bungie.net is confirmed to have something keeping track of that already.

Wow, i honestly dont care about rank and the only reason i was gonna play matchmaking in reach is for a change from firefight and customs and to get credits. now, i only have to play matchmaking when its for fun. Yaayyy bungie!

I bet you get cred for suicide. Thats like, the ultimate in street cred right there. What if there was like an epic easter-egg where anyone who commited suicide 7777777 times in a game automatically got 7777777 credits? That would be awesome.

Lolz @ the fact that you already get 1 cred for suicide in mm games (beta at least) ;D

I heard there was a limit to how many credits you can earn in one session of forge. (I don't know where if it was reliable but still heard it)

And I think it depends on how active you are, Not just how long the game is open.

Like more you create delete move items or move around could be a factor in how much you earn.

The way I see it, you will probably be awarded credits through actions and not time. If it was through time, you could literally sit in Forge doing nothing and quickly gain millions. At least making it go by physical forging actions, you have to actually be there instead of taping your thumbstick to make you spin in circles.

They did say that they could tell if you were idle, actually forging, or taping a thumbstick.

It goes like this. Their pretty clever doing this so listen carefully. They have removed the TrueSkill and EXP and replaced it with credits. Credits can be earned via making maps and spending a whole lot of time on Reach as showed at the start of the thread. So the more time you spend on Reach the more credits. So, since Bungie get really really rich and popular, they will reward you with a shop. This shop involves helmets, armor etc so you don't have to unlock it anymore. Using this, Bungie thinked smart and made people play more but in return Bungie and the players get credited.
