Umm... just watch that part of the video, and look right at that spot. Its really not that difficult.

I really don't thinks the bases were made with forge..

Notice how the entrance and grass meet perfectly. That'd be pretty hard to do in forge

Obviously geo-merging isn't the issue it was in Halo 3 :p Was that not one of the main things people were clamoring for in Forge improvements? It stands to reason that Bungie would put it in.

I think that they may still be working on the details of some maps, such as textures and shadows, I also think that the water covering the grass may have been done by forge or as a small favor from Bungie to Rooster Teeth/Red vs. Blue.

Man, the game is basically done. They've locked the artists and modelers out of the database.. This isn't an early build. Everything that looks rough is a Forge object. The water is definitely a Forge object too, although it's kind of mind-blowing in its implications, I know ;)

I'm thinking the water, if we get it, would prolly be edited like a respawn area or hill; height, width, and depth

I highly doubt that water will be a forge object. It just doesn't seem like it could be and I don't understand how someone got the idea. Texturing? It looks like it belongs there by design, not by forge.

I am 100% backing this statement. I really don't see how this wild theory came about. It looks fine to me.

Well, it's definitely not the same water that's in the cave scene. The ripples are much less pronounced, the colour is muted, the interaction with the Spartans is negligible... But most egregious, is the textures and grass brushes below the surface. There is no change between the surrounding field textures and what is below water, and the grass is still waving with the exact same wind-blown animation as the surroundings. This kind of thing is MAYBE something you would see in a C-grade title, but it is certainly not something the perfectionists at Bungie would miss.

The base is perfectly flat but it's also resting on the base of a hill if you look closely. Making the two meet each other perfectly wouldn't be hard at all.

Hill is exaggerated in this pic.

I personally think the bases could have been made in forge. There's plenty of evidence to suggest it.

I think geo-merging being the default in Reach's Forge is much more of an elegant solution to this problem. Think about how neatly the large wall fits in the canyon mouth behind red base; this could only be done with geo-merging.

Or, there's this crazy idea i had, which depicts the wall as being a barrier for invasion; walled off at most of the game, except for the last stage, and in normal games, it serves as a barrier; coded into the map with specific parameters to work for specific gametypes/parts of games.
It doesn't have to be forge, however much i want it to be.

I think the same way, not everypart of a map has to be forged, I hope so, but I doubt it

Is anyone else sort of thinking how, when halo reach comes out and we get a flood of new members, we'll be the old hairy people that say stuff like "well back in my day when I first started forging, we made bases out of open boxes in last resorts water"

Do start being Forgecist, besides, all the new people will make generic, two base maps, like we used to two years ago. Whilst we "old time" forgers will know what goes into the map gameplay wise.

Agreed on that, I'm no good at forging. But I love Sandbox map editors and if Bungie is really implementing a Sandbox style forge (which seems obvious now and I wish they'd just say it instead of maintaining the doubt in my mind) I'm gonna go insane cause all I'd do is make scenic maps with probably little gameplay value to them. But more of places to explore.

Farcry 2 may have originally brought level editing in fps games to consoles. But Reach would not only have the backing community to support it but as well as all the extra potential with theater mode, custom games, and what not.

I will probably become addicted to forge in Reach if we have a list of Pre-made set pieces like buildings, Structures, rock formations, and such. I can't forge for my life really but if i got a list of buildings to choose from to just add in instead of blocks to make the buildings. It'll be like a drug for me. I might even forget about my copy of Medal of Honor when it comes in the mail

Not even in your wildest wet dreams will I EVER concede on this point. Seeing that video and thinking that water is a placable object is, in a word, naive.

The water probably isn't rippling because they are standing still. As for the grass, you're right. Grass can't survive in water.

You've had your hands in that... 'Word-Soup'?

If the wind is blowing that way, across the surface of the water, of course the submerged grass would follow. Not with the same force, but it still would. These could be details they've already fixed, depending on when RvB made the video.

Mmk dude, you're of course entitled to your opinions :) I think I presented myself quite well. I'm just as eager to learn what's actually up as the rest of us. No sense in shooting down all speculation; what's the point of this thread then? I think I've got a good handle on what I'm seeing here.

If it turns out I'm right... All I'll ask is that you guys go back and play my old maps which got buried ;) haha
