I got this error whilst trying to start up Call of Duty 4 on PC.

    Error during initialization:
Video card or driver doesn't support UBYTE4N vertex data.

Someone with sexy computer knowledge help me out? :)

I've googled a little bit and some people are saying that the Sound card is out, yet it says video. I got lost.

Computer has been with me for about 6 years, so this is probably why it's packing it in.

    -Unhealthy and painful specs-

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
    Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corp.
    Model: Dell DE051
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIO PLUS Version 1.10 AO0
    Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.53GHz
    Memory: 766MB RAM
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    Graphics: Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller
Sound: SoundMAX Digital Audio...(Lol, that's bad)

I think I'll need upgrades. If I do, maybe link some pages with cheap but good cards/chipsets... (£'s please)

Tthe reason you posted here (instead of viewing the 30+ links on the first Google page for that exact error) is probably because you don't want to hear the only solution: you need a new video card. Your integrated intel controller was made 6 years ago, and it was never meant for a high-res game 6 years down the road...let alone anything too intense when it was in its time.

The graphics card you'll need to buy depends on what you want - you could up and buy a fancy graphics card, and futureproof (meaning, you won't have this same problem next year when a new game comes out), or you can just save some money and buy the minimum graphics card(s) for CoD4, which is either the Nvidia GeForce 6600 (128 MB) or ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128 MB). The recommended card(s) is either the Nvidia GeForce 7800 or ATI Radeon X1800.

So, list of the estimate prices of the minimums:

    Nvidia GeForce 6600 (102euro)
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (83euro)

    This ^

I think the game is trying to run on DX11 and your either have a DX10 or DX9 graphics card. AKA, you get an error. ;p Play less demanding games or get a new GC.

CoD 4 is optimized to play DX10 and DX9, DX11 Was in production back then, or just released.

And...Get a whole new Computer all together.

Lol, yeah, I have to agree... You really need a new graphics card and at least 2gb of RAM to play games (even then they won't play very well).

Skill Caster really gave you the absolute minimum prices, but I wouldn't even recomend those lower-end cards at this point... It would be easier to just buy a new computer.
