I didn't think that this deserved to go into the Videos section, because I'm going to try to keep all the talk about the new space battles we witnessed in the E3 2010 gameplay trailer. Here's the trailer and actual gameplay footage from E3 2010... Now discuss! YouTube - Halo: Reach Campaign Trailer - E3 2010 YouTube - Halo Reach - E3 Campaign Gameplay
Looks epic, but the thing that made halo CE epic was the ground and warthog fights that took place in the biggest worlds ever. Not the space battles. I dont think that this will follow in with the game very well at all, unless its like a one time deal.
Meh, most games that involve outerspace gameplay fail at life, SW Battlefront 2 is the only game that did it without making it seem retarded, and even then the only thing people ever did was board the enemy ship and destroy it from the inside, then wait around till the game ended. Which gets really old. Im starting to worry that they might have outerspace based multiplayer games as well...
I don't think it should be a one time deal to be honest, although I think that you should very rarely encounter a space battle, this is because if you have just one, it seems kinda random.
The drop pods may be added to invasion in the final game, but the space battle will probably not be included in multiplayer because of the complexity it showed in launching the ship. If the fighter was easier to launch once already in space, the space battles might be included in multiplayer but doing so would require giant maps and many players (possibly a reason for the rumored increase in player count).
They'll be in multiplayer for sure. They wouldn't work so hard just for a few campaign missions. I'm betting that it'll have it's own playlist named like 'Sabre Space Fight' or some ****. My guess is that they'll have team slayer games and such. I could see a 16v16 game a possibility, and if you get shot down you'll simply respawn near your carrier
16v16 would lag terribly, especially with vehicles. Since spartans' armor allows them to survive in space, you might be able to use a jetpack in space or something.
I think it makes perfect sense to include some space battle in the game. It IS supposed to be one of the most epic battles in the halo universe, yes? Just cause its different doesn't mean it's going to ruin the game. I DOUBT it will happen that often, it looks to me like the end of this one mission is a space battle. If the covenant have a ship with similar firepower, SvE slayer could be good in space
I can't imagine having lots of space missions like that. I think maybe two. The one we saw; take off and clear the Covenant away from that human ship, dock with one of the ships (human's or Covenant), which would then be followed by a mission on the ship and then a second space mission where you take off from the ship and make your way back to Reach. I just don't see them being a huge part of the game. Its one of those things you can do once or twice and its awesome... then you do it again and you start to wonder why it was so awesome to start with. Like the Scarabs. In Halo 2 there were 2 missions with Scarabs, 2 very different missions and both fun. In Halo 3 they became an excuse for using lots of big weapons or lots of vehicles. The Scarab itself wasn't so interesting, driving around on a mongoose for the first time with a marine firing rockets on your back was the fun bit. I hope they limit the use space battles, but keep them awesome. Also, it will prevent me from being constantly annoyed with the game about how manoeuvrable all the vehicles are in space, as if they were just flying through the air.
I guess it wont be that awful, but I sincerely hope its only one sequence in the game. I dont want to rehash it several times throughout the campaign.
Recalling that ODST tested a great number of new things that are either confirmed in reach or will likely be there, what do you think the banshee part of campaign was about. Everything was dark and gravity had almost no effect on the banshees just like it would be in space.
It'll probably be in the last mission or two in the game, since they're evacuating reach. I'm not sure how multiplayer would work out, though. It would need huge maps, good servers, and a playlist made just for space battles if Bungie would decide to do it.
Didn't check to see if somebody acknowldged this already (sew me), but it is highly unlikely they would go through the trouble of making it possible for a one time thing. People would not be happy about it and bungie is experienced enough to know this. I'm hoping for multiplayer dogfights. Also I didn't do any research either so you can commence the shooting down of my idea.
Oh.. K. But I still fail to see how people can dread an extra feature so much. Being different doesn't make you cool.
*Takes out crystal ball* I predict that these "Space Battles" will have a gametype in multiplayer and it shall be known as "Dogfight*. Mark my words.
