What a surprising WC. Germany, one of the weaker "favorites" coming in, destroys a supposedly solid Australia. South Africa ties Mexico, then goes on to get beat bad by Uruguay, while Mexico goes on to defeat France. Argentina barely beats Nigeria, then destroys South Korea. Japan beat Cameroon, but Ghana beat Serbia (the African team that wasn't the favorite won). Italy ties Paraguay. Brazil only wins 2-1 against North Korea. They gave up a goal! And the Swiss beat Spain. It's been fun to watch though. Bring on more!
Wow... France officially sucks now. Now that Zidane left it shows that the rest of the team is more than a little lacking.
Quite the opposite. Germany is a solid defensive team who has bee in the top 3 in most of the World Cups. Australia is a weak team who has only won ONE game in the World Cup since they've entered it.
Germany had lots of questions coming in. Ballack got hurt, one of their top two goalies committed suicide and the other one got injured. Plus Podolski and Klose were playing uninspired soccer for their club teams. Meanwhile, Australia was ranked 20th in the FIFA rankings, and gave up the least goals in Asia (they were moved there) during World Cup qualifying. A 4-0 result was shocking. Especially considering Germany then went on to lose 1-0 to Serbia.
How about the bullshit tie USA had earlier? Goddamn sideline ref called offsides when it wasn't even there.
I never heard about the suicide. Source? The loss to Serbia was devastating though as well as Klose getting a red.
Source. The red card was a little extrem, as well as the 9001 yellow card the referee showed both teams during the Game, if you watch Klose play, you'll see that he get's a lot of balls with those little actions, none of them was worth a yellow card in my opinion. But Germany played very week as well, so Klose is no excuse, just think of Podolskis penatly.
Lol Australia was never supposedly solid, Germany was expected to win. And even so they played extremely poorly. Get your facts straight.
Australia's FIFA ranking is 20th. They qualified first in the AFC. Over the span of qualifying, they went 9-3-2 (W-D-L), scoring 19 goals and giving up only 4. They were regarded as more than solid actually. Regardless of if Germany was expected to win or not, the fact is the 4-0 dismantling was surprising. I think they're pretty straight.
And you can't blame this on Australia how? They got themselves a red card. It was their players fault they were down to 10 men, and the reason Germany COULD score 3 more goals. Every sport is basically a "**** up, and you really **** up".
Yes, tis their fault. I'm just sayin that Australia really is fairly solid, and you can't say they played badly whenever they were down a man.
That's what makes it somewhat surprising. Things just went from bad to worse for Australia, and their normally stout D couldn't handle the German attack or overcome playing with 10. I expected Germany to win, but only around 2-0 if that. Certainly not a 4-0 blowout, even if you do give up a Red Card.
South Africa just might advance after all. They need to win by 3, and have Mexico lose by 2. South Africa leads France 2-0 and Mexico trails Uruguay 1-0 at the half. Plus France is playing with 10 men.
