I made these both in school on Photoshop CS2. Lemme know what you think and constructive criticism is encouraged.

(I am aware that on V2 there is a white bar thing to the side, That was the drop shadow I put on the picture when I posted it into InDesign. Sorry about that.)

To be honest, I really don't like it all.
The colours are just too bright and contrast with each other too much making everything look out of place.
The font is really out of place in both of them as well, it's just stuck on there...

    No blending with anything really.

You should try find some decent tutorials to learn off.

Why don't you remove the white border and add the shadow in yourself if you want the shadow?

Listen to Red Army's wise words, dude.

In addition, stop with the slanting text. Horizontal text is the way to go.

Both people ^^^ pretty much summed it up.

Spammy, don't post if you don't have something to say.

The top one looks like someone puked.

If the spartan was more visible and the shadow border was gone the second one would actually be quite nice.

Alright. I could tone down the contrast in the V3. I'll post that soon.

On which one? And can u tell my why you think that please?

I have no clue what that even is. What is this "blending" you speak of? haha

Thanks. I've been watching some at my house but I don't have this program at my house so I can't practice them I have to do it all at school. But yeah i'll watch some more. I am getting Adobe Photoshop Extended CS4 This week at my house so i'll definitely be watching a ton of tutorials.

Well, I did but when I posted it to Photobucket it included a white background so that you could see the drop shadow. I'll try to "repost" the V2 without the drop shadow. I'd just like to say thanks for the input! Its appreciated.

    I surely did. haha.

Alright. That makes sense. Why not do slanted text at all? (If you dont mind me asking)

Mhmm. Thanks for the input though.

I didn't like the top one either. When I made it, sure... but not so much now.. I'll try to fix the V2 and make a V3 and i'll post it in the main post above.

Text is text. It's (usually) meant to be read and then dismissed so the person can take in the image. If it's horizontal it's easiest to read, that being how we normal see text, and if it's at an angle it takes an extra second to read, and it becomes much more of a distraction.

Just my take on text, btw. Keep in mind that I've never been really good with it.

Side note with the shadow, you need to save it has PNG format to retain the shadow. If it's any other format, you'll get that white background effect.

V3 needs to be a little lighter.

Honestly, you need to scrap it.
    Text is still bad.
The overall image is just bad.

You honestly need to start slow with a tutorial. Something basic.

Maybe try something like this, it kinda goes with what you've got here.
Or go here and find something you like.

This is Icecikle and HellsRequiemAMX's signature guide, but the guide may apply to large art too.

Wow, that tutorial contains a pretty ridiculous double standard if you ask me. Probably not the best tutorial to reference.

Anyway, the concept is fine if you ask me. I like the explosion and the streaking effects on the spartan. But you're trying to do too much at once. In a large piece, one bad thing (like text) can ruin the entire image. That's not as much the case with signatures. You need to start with some basic signature tutorials using brushes, which do a lot of the work for you but still require some creativity and vision to produce a good result.

Once you've made some signatures that you're happy with and have gotten tons of feedback from critics, really dive into Photoshop. Challenge yourself to make signatures using only effects from the Filters menu and other defaults. When you can pull off good stuff using only what Photoshop has to offer and no additional resources, you're familiar enough with the program to start tackling some bigger projects.

Graphic design requires a lot--especially proficiency in the program you're using. I personally think the tutorials other people have recommended are not right for you at this moment. Yeah, all of the steps might be laid out for you to just easily copy, but that's not the point. Tutorials are about the development of skills, and those ones won't really help you right now. Crawl before you walk.

    I see what you mean.

Alright, thanks for helping though. I'll try out the 1st tutorial next when when I actually get Photoshop at my house. Just letting you know that I have finals this week and wont be spending hardly any time on Photoshop at my school.

    Alright, thanks for the help!

Okay, I see what you mean. And I do see how I guess I am trying to do too much. Thanks for the help though. It's really appreciated. Same goes for all of the other people that commented.

I personally think that you should try starting over. I'm not saying that V2 or V3 are rubbish, I'm just saying that I don't think they have the right effect for the picture. I'm not sure how to word this but I think V1 needs to have the style effect to it that goes with the picture.
    (I hope I haven't completely confused you :p)
