    The Mines Teaser

The Mines Drive Through Preview (old, will try to get new completely unblurred drive through vid up tomorrow)

The Mines is an encolsed racetrack forged in the skybubble on Sandbox. It has a basic figure of 8 shape to it and a lap time of around 25 seconds. It can support basic racing variants as well as battle tracks variants. Due to the small size of the track it can support a maximum of 8 players (4 drivers and 4 passengers). The majority of the track is completely enclosed, bar the long straight towards the end of the track. Here come the pics:

I also threw together a Close Quarters Combat Battle Track game variant to be tried out on this map. I haven't had much of a chance to test it due to exams, etc. so if some of you could try it and give me feedback on how to improve it that'd help loads :)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy The Mines, I've taken far too long making it and am quite glad to be able to release it at last :D Thanks in advance for downloading!

I love close quarter maps of any kind so this seems like its gonna be really fun for me. Gloomy works well.

This looks good. I'll dl soon as I can. But there's one thing I want to ask; why did you put the kill ball there? If you just wanted the death barrier to kill you, you could've just not put anything there, even with the item limit.

I dunno, maybe I'm missing something.

Yes, you did take too long making this.

    Here is my verdict:

Pros: Love most of the track. There are some nice close sections mixed with a bit of spacey sections. Nice flow (mostly) and great asthetics.

Cons: The second "grav lift aided" turn is bad. If you have a bunch of people racing you will all get stuck there. Its cheatable; a simple jump up from the ramp at the start will get you a point.

    6/10 for gameplay
    9/10 for asthetics
    -1 for cheatability

    Overall 7/10.

I thought that it would look better if there was something beneath you which killed you so that you wouldn't be able to see the main floor of Sandbox. I wanted to create the impression that you weren't racing in a track suspended in the air.

Cheers for the feedback man. I used to despise the grav lift turn, it's by far the worst part of the map, but I've got used to it after doing a few laps. If I were to make a V2 I'd scrap it and try and get some sort of gentler double wide turn going on, but at the time I could only really do a single wide part there due to the budget + item limits. The VIP destination is cheatable, but I don't know where else to put it, maybe a really thin one right next to the grav lifts at the end? Raising the VIPs gravity does the trick though if you are concerned that people will cheat ;)

The Mines is a really refreshing change from the typical open-topped, bending tracks which loop about the skybubble. If for nothing else, that change makes this map a winner in my books.

    Very cool idea, exceptional execution.

    Some single wide parts ):

But anyway it's nice to see a themed track and also I don't think I've seen an indoor one either. Definately a download.

I was wondering where this map had gone. It sort of disappeared off the grid for a bit, but I'm glad it's up.

I'll have a game with some mates later, and throw a full review your way. I have to say that a racetrack that's not just bank after bank should be a breath of fresh air to a stale map genre, so I'm sure it'll be a blast.

I thought this was a very interesting idea from the first time I saw the map preview. However, I was curious to see how you would manage to create a track with good gameplay when it was so focused on aesthetics. Sadly, I was disappointed. The start of the track was fine (although if you had 4 teams of 2 in a BT style race, it wouldn't work with only 4 mongooses because if you died, you would have to wait for the Mongoose to despawn and then spawn at the start before you could do anything), and the first turn was good (although it was a little steep for a hairpin turn), but after that it all went downhill. The turn with the grav lift is no good. The grav lift was placed poorly, and it was easier to just slow down and then turn. That short tunnel wasn't merged very well, and would often result in hitting a wall after that drop. The next tunnel was alright, but you still had to either slow down or run into the wall. On the jump, I would hit my head on the ceiling about half the time, and the final turn was very awkward. You either had to slow down or take the far outside and cut in to keep any momentum. You had the destination jump set up well, as it is above a hill so you could land on the slope and keep your speed, but you made it so you land at the bottom instead, which usually causes you to lose all your speed or control. So, like I said, it is a very unique idea, and I give you props for trying, but it's difficult to create good fluid gameplay with a map that is almost purely based on aesthetics, and the flow really suffers on this racetrack.

Thanks all for the comments and DLs! 600+ Dls for the map and 800+ for the gametype!

Shaddo, as one of Forgehub's best racetrack makers I really respect your opinion and am sorry to hear you were disappointed by The Mines. You'll be pleased to hear however that the track has had a bit of a makeover compliments of x Dream 76 x and Derk921. There are now 8 mongooses at the start; the grav lift has been removed; the single wide tunnel before the lava jump is smoother and you're less likely to hit the sides; the lava jump landing is much easier to land and the overhang part has been removed so you won't bang your head on it; and the final jump at the end has been fixed, giving you a much smoother landing which is almost 100% reliable; and the track is uncheatable. It's really remarkable what they've managed to do to dramatically improve the flow of the track, and huge thanks go out to them! I'll release The Mines V2 sometime tomorrow as my fileshare isn't letting me upload it for some reason.

P.S. If anyone (out of the 820odd) has played the gametype could you please let me know what could be improved with it? Thanks ;)

Probably the coolest trailer iv ever seen.

The map is great too, of course! Its kinda short, but its different and a super-close competition map is always fun. The map is well forged and the drop over the start is fun. We had quite a hilarious pile-up with all four of us! LOL. 4/5. Its not my fav but the presentation was great and its a really excting map.
