Played some SnD with Brodellsky and Norsky last nite. Between camping with the bomb in our spawn using a riotshield, and pro hard scoping, 'twas most fun. I even had a phantom of the opera moment with my shield at one point, before I was rizzaped by thier entire team with shotguns.

I've heard pretty bad things about that. It's expensive and apparently not very good, however I've not used it yet.

Turtle Beaches are very low quality though, and the only reason I'd ever recommend one is for wireless (X41) or for a cheap solution (X1). Otherwise, Turtle Beaches are awful and you should either get an Astro A40/A30 or a Tritton (160, 320, or AX Pro)

Also one other thing is that that is a PC headset. PC headsets don't take in optical directly like from the PC, so you need a converter box like the Astro MixAmp ($150) to convert it for use on Xbox Live.

Turtle Beach has the X11 now, which is a lot more comfortable than the X1 but otherwise the same pretty much. Supposedly the white noise is lessened in the X11, but since I've never actually used an X1 for an extended period of time I couldn't compare. Anyway, it's got stereo sound, it doesn't cost $200, the mic works, and it can be used in pretty much any system except wii without buying extra stuff. I'm happy with it.

The X1 (I've heard of the X11 and can safely guess what it's like) is about the lowest quality headset you can get, HOWEVER it is a nice entry-level headset, especially for those without a disposable income.

The XLCs are actually the lowest quality headset, they're the exact same thing as X1s, but smaller in size and the voice and game volume are both controlled with the same switch. They aren't the best, but are extremely cheap, $40 (Canadian), and are a better alternative to say, the Microsoft wireless headset, which is the same price. Great for Call of Duty, especially FFA and Search since not many people talk, but as you said, so many better alternatives. I only got 'em because a lack of funds, and I didn't want another MS Brand XBox headset that would break within a day.

I have an x1, it's cheap and works just fine. The wires are annoying as ****, but it's what I can afford right now. I just got a Hauppauge HD PVR, so soon the money problems will dissipate. The x1's work pretty well for sound-whoring IMO, but my friend has the x31's and he sound-whores 10x better.

X31=X11. Same thing, except wireless. Hate to break it to your friend, but it's no different. Neither have very good simulated surround, good audio quality or drivers, or particularly good construction. But hey, they're cheap. Also the wires are by far the least you'll get in any headset. Nice and simple.

    8 Days playing time, 2,000,000 + score.

(I have a REALLY aggresive playstyle, and LOVE it.)

Rushing their spawn outnumbered against all odds in ground war beats camping in some corner aiming down your sights and waiting for ages anyday.

I have the Turtle Beach X41. I can honestly say they are well worth getting.
Surround sound, amazing. Mic built in of course, separate volume controls, of course.

The only reason I went Turtle Beach over anything else because there is no need to plug it into a power outlet. And being in Australia, we have different power outlets to America, so I wanted to make sure if I got one, it would even bloody work here. So I went that way.

And to be honest I have loved them, minimal issues.
The only problem with them is they take AAA batteries. But I have 4 rechargeable ones anyway, so they just swap out when they need to. =]

Anyone with the new maps want to get some CoD4-style Customs going on Crash and Overgrown? Basically, All you can use is pistols secondary and no attachments that weren't in CoD4. I've been wanting to do something like this for a while but never really had the time.

I guess I don't really have any basis to compare since I haven't used any other headset besides turtle beach x1/x11, but how is the construction poor? Do they tend to break after a while or something? Other than that I won't defend my X11s, I know they're far from the best, but I only really bought them because $20 to replace the shitty headset that comes with the xbox was the biggest ripoff I'd ever heard of.

They're not particularly well designed and hurt your ears after a while of playing... there's also not a ton of stretch. However, for the price you're buying em at, you can't go all that wrong. I think they're a great starting headset, but they don't really hold a candle to a decent headset.

And agreed on the default headsets. Those are so awful it makes me cringe that I have like six of them (all broken).

    i completely support tritton AX720s.

these guys have served me well for a few months now. They're great unless you're Insane54 and somehow manage to break them repeatedly :p

as for pinpointing EXACTLY where footsteps are they're decent being emulated surround. if you're into crazy precision get pros. Insane has a nice review of those guys somewhere around here.

I don't know about you guys, but the default Microsoft Headset is just fine every time.

I'll just crank up the TV if I want to hear the whole surround sound feature.

So I think I'm officially done with MW2.

Last night, Hardcore TDM, I was 1 kill away from a chopper gunner (my harrier was still up, doing ****ing work) and I knew that if I got it I'd get a nuke, because nobody on the other team had a rocket launcher and 4/6 of them didn't have cold blooded on.

I was hidden, taking snipers out, the ****ers had no idea where I was, and the one guy that was smart enough to figure it out was cocky and tried running up to knife me, which I noticed and knifed him first.

I relocated to a part of the map nobody was near and waited for my 11th kill, then some random **** noobtubed me from across the map.
