This map needs your help

    While building my latest map I ran into a few problems. But firstly I need to tell you about the map. Im building this map for a infection contest I saw a few days ago. It will hopefully support All the infection gametypes and maybe FFA. Basically it uses a concept im surprised Ive never seen b4. Closing and Opening doors. The humans start off inside a room shown in pict 1. There are 4 doors located at different ends of the room. Every 10 seconds 2 doors will drop and become the floor. Allowing zombies and humans to travel freely through the rooms. At this same time the 2 other doors will close. In other words 2 doors will be closed at all times and 2 doors will be open. So the concept is that the humans will have to use teamwork and communication to help guard each door. The doors work with grav lifts that spawn every 10 secs. Then are destroyed but fusion coils.

    On a side note if your interested in turning this concept into a map pack with different Difficulty levels and different maps then contact me.

    Now to the problem. I have only managed to get the doors to work 75% of the time. In the other 25% the boxes seem to dissapear then reappear on another boxes tear drop creating what can be seen in pic 4. Ive tried lots of things to fix this problem but nothing seems to work. Im sure that theyres someone out there whos had the same problem as me and can help me fix it. If the problem cant be fixed I guess the map will have to make do will faulty doors.

    First off all, i would like to say that the map looks cleanly forged, and hopefully it will have some good gameplay. Make sure you have a good way to prevent the humans spawn killing though. Anyway, onto your problem, how are your doors set up at the moment, does a grav lift simply blow them away or such, please tell to clear a few things up.

    Oh i am very glad you brought this up. I forgot to mention that yes a grav lift does push the boxes up. It is set to 10 second respawn. After 10 secs a fusion coil blows it up and the blocks drop

    Hmm.... just a little background info, every single moveable object disappears and then respawns like you mentioned as the problem. I can't think of a problem to solve this, especially if one of the boxes that disapears is one of the bottom ones. You might want to ask one of the more experienced forgers here or just wait for someone else here to post. Hopefully in Halo Reach we can make objects appear and disappear when we want.

    Changing subject, you said this was for a infection map making competition, but make sure you post the map here, it will be a download from me! Sorry i couldn't help.

    Thanks for your help. Maybe taking a look at the map might give you some ideas to solve the problem?

    I don't know, I don't think i'm a very good forger, i haven't even released my first map here! Just got an idea though, you could possibly ask the ching chong kid, he's awesome with switches and has probably tried something similar to this before. A simple solution is to just make each door the size of one crate, and make sure run time min and max are the same, then even if they disappear, they'll re-spawn straight away. That's the main problem with switches, they're always risky. Or you could use a dumster that slides across to open, athough, i think the people would have to to the door to open it, and it would be hard to make the door shut again.

    Edit: I meant they would have to touch the door to open it

    Yer I thought about making the doors 1 crate thick but then the pathway would be too small and could promote camping. I think if all else falls ill use 2 dumpsters side by side. Thanks again for your suggestions.

    set the run time min for the grav lifts to the number of doors you want CLOSED at any given time. Make the fusion coils spawn high up you set the run time min of those to one so a door closes and another opens every time a fusion coil falls. The height from which the fusion coils fall and hence the time it takes will determine how fast doors open and close.

    Never mind now. I fixed the problems by turning the boxes into dumpstars

    The only way that I can think of that you would have been able to have your crates reform correctly would be to have delayed respawn times. Set the lower boxes to 10 and the top boxes to 20. That's the only way to be sure. Since you have grav lifts respawn every 10 seconds, it really does screw you.
