So, after seeing feedback on this thread, I tried giving this a shot. Unfortunately, it more or less flopped. Either way, I still really want to give it at least one shot, so I'm going for an attempt #2. The way this will work is over a Skype chat and with a live stream on my capture card for those who don't have an xbox by their computer or who aren't great at visualizing. You'll need Skype and a Skype account, both free. You will not need a mic or camera, we will be doing it on text chat. If you get an account, go and add me (Insane540, with the zero) and when the time comes I'll add all the guys to a chat and begin. I'm thinking I'll try doing what I was doing earlier in my Forge Academy classes, which was mostly map design mentality. What I'd be doing is starting out by defining an element of design, showing some examples from Bungie maps (or other well-known developers), and then asking hypothetical questions, forcing you to think, not to sit dumbly at your computer screen, copying whatever the other guy does or whatever's popular. Hopefully. The focus would be on player movement, but the idea is to build overall design mentality. What I don't want are people are are disruptive, annoying, or closeminded. I'm not going to be giving you the Forge tips that'll have you Forgin' like a pro (though I may do some practical stuff on spawns and such). As far as time, I don't know. For the most part, I'm good whenever anyone else is, and then the skype log can be passed around to those who are still interested. We'll discuss it depending on the interest. I'm also exploring options in videos and such, but that's a different story (if you're interested in and able to help out with that, contact me). Remember to post here with your Skype tag, too, so I don't forget to add you, and tell any friends who might be interested. Comments, questions, whatever, below please TIME/DATE (time is subject to change): Sunday, May 16. 8 PM EST.
I'll definitely be able to participate. My Skype name is sillyboxcat. Also, how many people can be in a single chat session on Skype?
Apologies for the late response, finals weeks are upon me :O So, I'm thinking I'll do this after school is over (April 28th), perhaps even in the Reach beta itself. Bout 2 weeks.
This would be great so I am in for any time not during AP week (early may?). Although some other maps might be good to use as supplements, sticking to Halo 3 Pre-DLC maps would mean more participants know enough about the map to contribute.
I'm thinking we could do this in May...maybe earlier in the month so we can also discuss examples using Reach's map design. Just a heads up...the more people interested, the better.
Early may also happens to be when people will be busy playing the Reach Beta. And some unlucky people will be off of xbox and Forge Hub because of AP exams. Is there any chance of this being later?
The time isn't yet determined. However, I think I'd like to use the Reach maps as examples, hence the time. It's not like we're going to be literally spending every second on the beta.
I don't get it. Are we watching from our computers/skype or are we doing it ourselfs on the xbox!? I can't use both xbox and PC :/ I'd be down for this. Just tell me if I need skype or can I do it on xbox?
Reach Beta time might actually be good for the class because it will get people off of other games and back to thinking about Halo. And whatever happens, I put an advertisement in my sig so you have to follow through on this. Reach should have some really interesting maps because they are built for asymmetrical gameplay, while Halo 3 maps were built to be almost entirely symmetrical with a few minor differences. Setting up defense and attack points is usually forgotten in the run and gun gameplay of Halo. Edit: you already have my skype: pyro6666
I'd love to hear what you have to say, and maybe it'll help re-kindle my passion for forging. Skype is katanga-askar ...I think. XD
Alright, school is over and I've already played 200 games of the Reach beta. When is this good for everyone? I can run it at just about any time really, other than Fridays, but I see the advantage of doing it during the beta so that we can discuss the maps.
I'm good for any time between now and 7 hours after now. (unless it's weekends, anytime then Also... Just one thing.... CAN I DO THIS FULLY ON XBOX???!!!!!!
